The F1 Thread 2012 Season

No one is saying Lewis hasn't had his moments but clear as day one of the main reasons he doesn't lead (or closer to Alonso at least) the WDC is Mclarens fault. I've lost count with all the of stupid strategies and pit stop errors.

Joey Barton of F1 you have to be joking.

If it werent for Mclaren ? the team that built the best car on the grid for the first part of the season ?

First part of the season? Try only the first two races.

As for pit stops and team let down he's well within his right to moan, it cost him a race victory at the weekend. He's had no end of let downs from the team this year.

McLaren showed a simulation yesterday they put together for a possible London Grand Prix and what it could feel and look like.

I want :drool::drool:

Chances are the track would be completely different should there ever be a London Grand Prix but I defintly want some form of Grand Prix in London

So who is off to Silverstone next weekend? I'm off for all 3 days & camping at Silverstone Woodlands! :D

I wholeheartedly disagree with he London GP.

It will kill Silverstone, and bring and end to years of history at the track.

Like it killed Monza or Barcelona? I think it'd be a great idea.

I imagine it'll attract a whole different crowd - the petrolheads will still go camping in Silverstone like they do now.

I think it would be a good idea but not in replacement of Sliverstone.
With all the racks that want to hold an F1 race, Russian Thailand and Mexico to mention only a few.
How about having a core of say 10 races that are set in stone, Australia , Canada , British,Italy, Belgium, Germany and of course Brazil and Monaco with a few others and have the rest of the season spread around the other tracks that want or could hold a race.
The race outside the core 10 could change every season, so giving everybody a chance.
Even get rid of a few of the boring tracks.
I know it would not be that simple, but it could inject some more money into F1 and get it to place that wants a race but not every season.

I've had this debate with my dad (albeit on a smaller scale) when I said that the European GP should move around Europe and go to countries that don't already have a race. But he countered that with the very valid argument that it costs so much to make a track with all the amenities and perks that F1 teams require that a track operator couldn't afford to do it and then only be used once every five years when F1 visits Russia. They need to recoup their money by having a race every season. So you either have to have the tracks be regular fixtures on the calender, or else race in some really poor tracks.

People seem to think that a London Grand Prix would for some reason kill off Silverstone, they wont stop racing at Silverstone, heck that contract was only renewed long term not so long ago this is being looked at more in line of being a European Grand Prix venue as opposed to staging it in Valencia not to replace Silverstone as the British Grand Prix.

I think the point was more that if there's a London grand prix then there'll be no interest in Silverstone as everyone will go the London GP instead, not that Silverstone will be taken off the calender entirely (it has a contract until 2025 or something outrageous!). Just that no one will attend Silverstone.

I don't think that's the case, though. Just as most people who attend Monaco are not petrolheads, that's the crowd a London GP would attract. So it would be another money-spinner for F1, but the hardcore fans who love a bit of camping and the smell of burning fuel would definitely still go to Silverstone.

Really sad news, just tweeted from BBCSport

Spokesman for East of England Ambulance Service says injured F1 test driver @mariavillota has sustained "life-threatening injuries"

She's conscious now and talking.

Strange one though, seems like she slowed to end a run and then just suddenly accelerated again for no reason and piled into the support truck which happened to be head height.

not live here in the states. get everything but the race.

I don't believe a racing driver (albeit one without a super licence) would suddenly accelerate in some strange manner like that; I find it far more likely that - as shitty as the Marussia is - that there was some sort of software glitch that almost killed her.

Glad she's alive at least. Without wanting to sound cnutish but some things really are meant for men only no matter how desperate some women are at wanting to prove they can do those things just as good.

I have to disagree with you very strongly
There are plenty of women drivers that are better than men, some of the worst drivers I have seen are men.
To say that only men can drive F1 is wrong even more so when nobody knows how the accident happened yet, would you be saying the same if it was found to be a software error or mechanical problems and not driver error.

Yeah. Men racing drivers never have serious accidents.

Are you in a wind up or just living two-hundred years ago?

Who thought up the FP Wet tyre rules? It was frustrating to see the stands packed but none of the drivers wanting to go and burn a set of wet tyres because they don't replace full wets after FP, its stupid and its an FIA thing.

Sucks to see Silverstone having access issues again, I expect Bernie to stick his troll nose in and make some comment about the facilities despite the fact they have been improved ten fold over the last 6-7 years and Silverstone can actually sell out instead of having F1 races around places with 3 people in the stands like China & Turkey.

Anyone know what happens if the race is called of due to weather? As in when will it be on or will they just cancel it all together?

Good question, not sure. I know recently Indy Car couldn't get a race run so they ran it on the Monday, I think that would be the compromise or at least it should be in my opinion.

Button saying the conditions might be unraceable, despite the fact Hamilton thinks they are exciting. Personally I'm all for safety but modern Formula 1 is far too quick to call it off these days, yeah it was quite bad today but Alonso was running around on Inter's so it couldn't have been undriveable.

Cheers, I'd have thought they would try to race on the Monday aswell tbh. I suppose it's about preparing for the worst with this kind of weather.
