The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Yea I was going to quote that earlier but my phone wouldn't let me copy from the BBC page for some reason.

"They weren't targeted. They just happened to be there."

"I think it's unfortunate. It's an issue of timing. It could happen in any place in the world really, getting caught up in a riot or a fight or anything."

feck. Off.

BREAKING NEWS ; Security forces have fired stun grenades and tear gas at protestors in Bahrain

Just breaking on sky news now so no link yet, will update as soon as we get one. This is beyond a fecking joke, all the arguments they have put forward about the protests not being agains F1, feck sake F1 going there gives them a platform to get their voice out. Stupid stupid decision from the FIA, F1 going there was always going to cause things to escalate out of control

Bernie needs to make the call now to cancel the race and get everybody out.
I have a very bad feeling somebody is going to get really hurt or worst , all it takes is for one idiot to get over the barrier at the start and there will be carnage.

This portest was specifically against F1 taking place in Bahrain this weekend, protesters chanting slogans against the upcoming grand prix.

Security forces in Bahrain have fired tear gas and stun grenades at hundreds of anti-government protesters who are chanting slogans against the upcoming Formula One Grand Prix.

Thursday's clash, witnessed by an Associated Press photographer, is the latest flare-up in the Gulf kingdom as it hosts F1 racing teams from around the world.
Bahrain opposition groups have criticized the decision to stage Sunday's race, which was canceled last year because of unrest.

Marchers chanted slogans against the F1 and appealed for the release of a jailed activist who has been on a hunger strike for more than two months.
Bahrain's Shiite majority began an uprising in February 2011 seeking a greater political voice in the Sunni-ruled kingdom.

What scares me the most is just thinking of all the people we have on the ground in there now, fans, drivers, mechanics, hospitality staff, media. F1 travels with a huge group of people and having them all in that country is unsettling. As a fan I want them all out of there now, usually we want more racing but this weekend the chequered flag cant come soon enough.

I agree has a fan I want to see a race and a good one at that but the potential cost for me is far outwaying the race.

Just think what one extremist could do , he could be sat in the packed stand or even manage to get in to the pit lane and god forbid it happens this extremist could have a bomb on him and kill hunreds.

This weekend could be very bad for F1 has a whole
OK some of you will think I am being stupid and nothing will happen , yes you are more than likely right but just what if !

F1 is not fecking worth dying over. Anybody, protestor or otherwise, that is killed this weekend due to events brought about by the race, should lie squarely on Bernie Ecclestones conscience.

The only fecking reason we are going here is because Bernie is getting paid a motza by the fecking oil barons. Monday will come and they'll still have issues, why even fecking risk it!

Bahrain is the last place I would go to watch F1 at this moment in time.
If I was a driver or in fact anything to do with the race , I would be on the next flight out , everybody involved with F1 must be scared shitless out there , maybe the guy from Force India has the right idea and asked to go home.

Why do many sports have shitty shitty people leading the organization?

F1, Basketball, FIFA, UEFA.

there is no way bahrain gp should be held at this current situation, bad timing.

Just having a look at a bit of FP1 now towards the end, as pointed out there are no fans there apart from about 58 or so in the grandstands. Most other stands are empty, in terms of actual racing information the track is dusty as ever and Mercedes are back to destroying their tyres again.

Ecclestone and the race organisers were seen going into the force india hospitality suite with the force india team principle. Sources close to the team saying that Force India dont want to partake in FP2 as they dont want to travel back to the hotel in the dark, team refusing to comment at present and the belief is that they are trying to work something out to keep them in FP2. I mean if the team themselves dont feel safe is that not enough for the FIA to wake up and realise something is massively wrong here.

BREAKING NEWS: Force India will start but will not finish FP2 as the team wishes to leave the track before it starts to get dark.

Ecclestone is a prize twat for whom lining his pockets is more important than the safety of the people in 'his' sport. I can't believe this race is going ahead.

Yep, Ecclestone is a tosser, Force India now saying they are only going to stay for the start of FP2 to finish some crucial work and then they will pack up and leave in day light once they have done that.

Force India will finish second practice early at the Bahrain Grand Prix on Friday so they can return to their hotel before dark.

The decision comes after four team mechanics narrowly avoided being hit by petrol bombs during a clash between protesters and police on Wednesday.

Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone visited the team on Friday morning.
But team boss Bob Fernley denied they had discussed the team's plans to leave the track early.

The move is a blow to Ecclestone and the Bahrain Grand Prix organisers, who have been at pains to present the Gulf state as safe.

Wednesday's incident came as the Force India team members were returning from the track to their hotel at about 2000 local time on the main highway from the track to the capital, Manama.

Fernley told BBC Sport that Force India fully supported the Bahrain Grand Prix but that safety was paramount.

He said there were concerns about safety and that the team members wanted to go back to the hotel in daylight.

He said the other teams would have to make their own decisions about when it was safe to leave the track.

Not all the teams are staying in central Manama - McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes are all in a resort complex about 3km from the track.
More to follow

I hope that other teams will see the sense behind leaving early and maybe follow suit. I dont want any of them travelling back to the hotel in the dark.

Force India have now said that they will in fact take no part in FP2, they say they have all the data they need for now as they were the only team to run on the soft compound too in FP1 and they will be packing up and leaving while the sun is still up

Sauber are now reporting an incident their mechanics faced last night

Sauber have released this statement:

"Yesterday (Thursday) night at 2030 (local time) a minibus of the Sauber F1 Team had left the circuit to go back to the Novotel in Manama. At 2050 (local time) the 12 mechanics being on that bus noticed fire on the medial strip of the highway. The traffic was slow, cars had their hazard flashers on.

On the opposite lane there was no traffic. The team members saw a few masked people running from there over to their lane where a bottle was burning as well. The mini bus moved to the very right side of the highway and went passed the situation. No one from the Sauber F1 Team was hurt."

Bernie is a cnut. It's a shit track anyway. Would've been no great loss to F1 other than to Bernie's pockets.

Hmm

Wasn't expecting Mercedes to be so quick here as well
But I guess the long runs and tyre wear will be key

I wonder if Rosberg can keep up the speed in to qualifying , he is handling his tyres better than Sch.
McLaren look off the pace in FP.
While I am looking forward to the race and want my fav drivers to do well , I just want this race to pass with no problems , for once the result of the race takes second place.

It probably has nothing to do with the grandprix.. Media just overplaying everything.

What? What does it matter if it's related? He's saying F1 should take a back seat and he's right.

A protester has been shot dead, how the feck are they 'overplaying' it?

So.. you are saying if there has been no race going ahead in bahrain - that the protester shot dead would have made news in a F1 thread?
