On a brighter note:

Kimi Raikkonen has given his entire Lotus team T-shirts emblazoned with his now-famous radio message during his Abu Dhabi Grand Prix victory. The 33-year-old Finn took his first win since his return to the sport this year and his team's first since the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix.On Friday 500 T-shirts carrying the slogan: "Leave me alone, I know what I'm doing" arrived at the factory.

 Brilliant!

Personally I don't see what's wrong with what Whitmarsh said
He's basically saying he hopes McLaren do better than Mercedes, why wouldn't he believe or say that

This is the way to attend the Monaco GP! The auction raised £1,023,039 between the 4 couples!

Radio 2's Chris Evans Breakfast Show auctioned an incredible package in aid of BBC Children in Need - four couples can experience the ultimate luxury trip to the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix!

Each winning couple will get...

BUT that’s not all...

On Saturday afternoon, after the qualifying, the 4 couples’ names will be put into a hat, and the couple whose name is pulled out will receive a personal invite from Prince Albert of Monaco to his place for the uber-exclusive Saturday night cocktail Party

AND that’s not it either...

The highest bidder from the 4 winning couples will be escorted before the race itself by Bernie Ecclestone, where he will take you on the most glamorous Grid Walk in Formula 1, as the cars, the drivers and all the crews carry out their absolute last minute check!

Dreaming aside, F1 returns to the USA this weekend and I for one hope its a brilliant show. The track looks alright, I'd have to see F1 cars racing around it to form a proper opinion but the uphill Turn 1 looks fantastic.

F1 is better for having the US back on the calendar.

That prize is amazing, shame it was a high bidder affair enough, would be nice to have someone win who couldn't afford to do most of it anyway should they so wish.

Kubica has just announced he can't drive single seaters anymore. Which I guess pretty much confirms that he's done sadly. Shame I had him down as a future world champion. And in this Lotus him and Kimi would have been arguably the strongest duo on the grid

Kubica definitely is a great talent and a pure racer too. Enjoyed watching him drive.

He's definitely lucky to be alive but its sad that he won't be able to drive.

If there was ever a qualifying to bet on the pole man this would be it, forgone conclusion and has been since Red Bull smashed everyone into the weeds with development.

That's pretty much a miracle lap from Hamilton to split the Red Bull's and be that close to Seb.

Just over a tenth, when you consider the Red Bull all weekend has been miles ahead on one lap pace that must have been a great lap. The long runs looked actually favourable to McLaren but even if they are close you can expect the inevitable engine/fuel/suspension failure for Hamilton, hell probably a return of the pit stop error this time.

I reckon it could be a good race tomorrow, the track seems quite nice and with it being so new and unused it could lead to some mistakes which always make things interesting.

It's a really slippery surface with a standing start, the drivers know its probably a tough place to overtake and with the slippery side of the grid predicted to be slow away I think its a recipe for crashes in the opening laps.

I think Vettel is going to launch away at the start using the Red Bull's trademark fast opening laps whilst Alonso really has to be careful in the pack. Maybe I'm wrong but barring issues I think Vettel becomes 3 time World Champion tomorrow.

Ted Kravitz ‏of Sky reporting changing Massa's gearbox to move Alonso 1 place up and onto clean grid side. Funny that.

Really though I do hope Alonso can get past Seb so we can have a great final race.

They also reckon webbers car might magically have a gearbox problem to move alonso back to dirty side. Apparently you could lose 2 spaces on dirty side

Is what Ferrari doing not just cheating ?

I'm sorry but what Webber did in the last race was much worse. He took out a couple of cars which allowed Seb to get on the podium. I see it as only fair that Ferrari retaliate this way.

There are 2 races left, the Red Bull is quicker and Alonso needs all the help he can get. Personally I see that as a team doing its absolute best to maximise his chances, its not any less cheating than having rubber nosecones or flexi wings is it?

What is telling from it though, Ferrari deem the slippery side of the grid so bad they feel the need to do it.

Are you suggesting that Webber crashed intentionally?

The grid penalty buts both Alonso & Massa on the clean side of the grid. Teams are saying that being on that side of the grid could lose you up to 2 places off the start.

Are you suggesting that Webber crashed intentionally?

I'm saying that the Red Bull team tried it's absolute best to give Vettel a podium finish in the last race, why can't Ferrari do the same without it being deemed cheating?

Intentionally is not the appropriate word to use, I'd say he was given team orders to drive very aggressively and very recklessly, making people lose valuable time, not actually trying to cause severe crashes, which he did.

Webber isn't really a gung-ho type of driver, he is more of a Jenson Button styled laid back driver, that's why I have my suspicions from the last race.
