The F1 Thread 2010 Season

Isnt it the first F1 race on that track ? One can never be sure...Red Bull and McLaren have both been dominant on several tracks.

It's the first race, but looking at the layout of the track it shares similar characteristics to Suzuka. The Red Bull will suit it very well.

for me Vettle is driving the best , but it will need Webber not to finish a race or finnish out of the points for him to win
Today was Vettel's first race win since what, Europe? I think Alonso is driving very well right now too. I think experience will play a part and it should come down to Webber and Alonso imo.

Lewis was competitive on a track where the Red Bulls were runaway favorites. He qualified 3rd and appeared to be consistently quicker than Red Bull in the middle of the race.

He has nothing to lose and will go for it now. IMO, he is a far quicker driver in that situation.

He wasn't competative in terms of going for the win, the red bulls showed what they were capable of when they smashed in those super fast laps at the end, and Alonso seemed pretty comfortable in third. If Massa can wake up that's 5 cars for Hamilton to compete with in the remaining races and red bull seem very strong. If Webber can stay in touch with Vettel he'll win the WDC.

Alonso is driving well yes, it's certainly going to be an interesting last few races, but I wouldn't rule Vettel out of it yet, a DNF for Webber and a Vettel race win and it all changes round.

Gearboxes
In a bid to further improve reliability and cut costs, gearboxes must now last for four consecutive events. As with engines, an event comprises final practice, qualifying and the race. Every unscheduled gearbox change will require the relevant driver to drop five places on the grid at that meeting. If a driver fails to finish a race, he may start the next meeting with a new gearbox without incurring a penalty.

I think Whitmarsh said after the race they get a free change next race but I could be wrong.

Edit: although that would make it appear not to be the case.

Hmm so with Hamilton finishing the race I guess he will suffer a 5 place grid penalty.

I think it is Webber's for the taking , although 14 is not a great deal.
He is driving consistant and well and it would take a DNF in one of the race for him not to win.

I would love for Webber to win it, he had to do it the hard way...none of this chosen child business.

I remember when he started with Minardi in F1, and finished 5th in his very 1st race, and scored points for Minardi for the 1st time in 3-4 season. Then the Jaguar years, couple of years at Williams, finally Red Bull.

Mark is also a straight up bloke, honest, so I would love for him to win it(aussie connection not withstanding)

i agree Mark comes over has a very likeable guy , would be good for good session on the beer.
Done it the hard way like you say and would deserve it.

Hmm Alonso winning all 3 races would also give him the title irrespective of what Webber does ;)
Extremely unlikely ofcourse though.

If Korea does not happen happen then that leaves us with 2 races and Alonso or Vettel could yet win the title just by winning both the races. Webber is in a great position though but it's far from over.

He is. He of course like so many drivers lives in europe now, but whenever he comes back to Australia, he's always around mates, and very approachable.

Went to the Australian Grand Prix a few years back, when Vodafone were still sponsoring Ferrari, and despite us being Ferrari/Vodafone guests we still chased Webber around, and he was more than happy to have a chat for a couple of minutes.

*the chosen child wasn't a dig at anyone btw, just that he had to struggle to come up with the mone and sponsorships, didn't have the big backers that some of the others drivers have.

You have shocked me there , I thought Korea was not in doubt , Eddie Jordan seemed to think it would happen and be fantatsic

i would like to see webber win it tbh, i like him and i think he deserves it but i hate red bull, horner and vettel with a passion

I don't mind Webber at all. Comes across as very decent and human in comparison with some of the others.

At 34, it might be the last time he'll ever have such a chance to win it.

The Red Bull is a rocketship, I mean its only real weakness is its engine and that's beyond their control.

I'm surprised at how many people like Mark Webber. The guy's a typical Australian; ie, an insufferably lary and arrogant cnut.

Every single person complaining about Button's win last year because of the superiority of the car should be saying the exact same thing about Webber.

I don't mind Webber. Only thing I'd knock him for is some of the tripe whinges he's had in the last few years, particularly about younger drivers, when he's done as stupid if not worse mistakes himself

The biggest knob of the lot bar none is Alonso, and I'd be happy for anyone to win bar him

Hamilton has to win three on the trot now to stand a chance, can't see it. Shame because up until the last few races, I think he's been the best driver this season considering the machine he's using

I want Alonso to win. Been driving all year in a car definitely inferior to the McLaren and the Red Bulls. Will prove once again that he is indeed the best driver.

On an unrelated note to the Championship fight. Kobayashi was just awesome today, really impresses again with his overtaking.

Webber, arrogant?

examples please

given a top car he could be up there challanging for the title.

He is a real 'racer', but would he be able to reign himself in, if given a drive for a contender?

Does he have the maturity required to know when to settle for something less...

driving on the edge and driving reckless aren't too far apart...saying that, he was brilliant today.

Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeroy Jenkins.

As far as I can remember the Ferrari was one of the quickest cars for the first 3 races, had a dip for 6 races and since Germany has been quickest behind the Red Bull. How you come to say the Ferrari is 'definitely inferior' to the Mclaren I do not know, Massa's poor season has clouded the view of some supporters it seems.

The is no denying that the Red Bull has been the fastest car in perhaps three quarters of the races so far and yet their two drivers haven't escaped the pack despite good reliability and 13 poles between them, by all means this title should have been a two horse race by now.

at the moment no he does not , but given time and the right car , then yes he cold be.

I think that very reason is why this season seems to so exciting.
Can wait for the next race abnd see how Korea handle there first GP.

Wr8 is correct. Mclaren have the most powerful car on the grid by quite some distance but haven't been able to get all their developments working well together in some races. The must have's for the cars this season have been the Mclaren F-duct and the Red Bull blown diffuser. Ferrari started off on the backfoot with neither and at times during the season like in Turkey or Belgium were slower than even the Renaults & Mercedes which was never the case for Webber or Lewis. If Lewis did not have 3 DNFs in 4 recent races, he could very well be leading the championship.

Alonso has had to get every tenth of a second possible out of the slower Ferrari to be in the position he is now. Either the Red Bulls and/or Mclarens have been quicker than the Ferrari on every race bar Monza.
