The F1 Thread 2010 Season

There was no way that the Safety car was pulling in on the last lap to allow 100 yards of racing. It was pretty clear that the race was ending under the safety car. Alonso assumed the rules will be followed and wasn't defending for a Schumi attack. The stewards screwing up on the green allowed Schumi yet another sneaky opportunity to bend the rules and talk his way out of it. The only fair solution is award them both points for 6th place.

Conspiracy theory - Have Mclaren started to feck up Button's chances to help their golden boy ? I cant remember the last time a professional team was responsible for such a monumental cockup.

To be fair these pod things (I was half asleep while it was being disscussed so can't remember the terminology) are the same colour scheme as the car, making it a very easy mistake to make and probably happens all the time but with much lesser ramifications.

Why they're not luminous with a big flag saying "TAKE ME OUT RETARD" I don't know, it would make much more sense.

fecking Button's chance to help Hamilton there was even something wrong with Hamiltons brakes today. Just Mclaren fecking up for both not trying to help Lewis.

The commentator on Speed said it is generally luminous yellow or orange and impossible to miss.

They could have at least brought him in during the first safety car period and changed tires (Alonso strategy) while removing it. Considering that Alonso finished 6th on that strategy, Button could have finished maybe 4th on a similar strategy.

Mclaren fecked up on both counts - leaving that pod thingy and then failed to react to their mistake. Did they expect no safety car periods in Monaco ? Insane.

On BBC (hardly the best source I know) they had Brundle, Coulthard & Jordan saying they are the same colour as the car.

But button went straight after the safety car came out, abit too early for them to make the change of it really, especially since at full speed the pod wouldn't do much harm.

NotF1 but still motor racing.
Just watched a doc on BBC4 about Le Mans 1955 and how many got killed in a crash.
Wow there was a lack of heath and safety in the 50's drivers had no fear.
It was a crash I had never even heard about till I saw the advert for it on the BBC home page, even to this day they dont know how many was killed ,they put it between 86 and 120.
What shocked me more than anything was the fact the race was not stopped and the driver that was caught up in the crash and some say the cause of it went on to win and was phitgraphed smiling and showeing champers over everybody.
It is well worth the hour watching it

Well I was only joking but yea the mail is a dire rag. It's unsurprisingly pathetic of people to send hate mail to Hill though, I mean what in the hell are they hoping to achieve?!

No suprise really, they had no chance anyway. The rule is pretty clear atleast now.

The rule is still fecking bogus. The FIA should have clarified the rules before the season started. Schumacher should be reinstated to 7th 'but it won't happen', because under the given rules, 4.11, a green flag cannot be waved under safety car conditions.

This is as stupid and pathetic as the Hamilton Raikkonen bullshit a few years ago. Why even have rule book. Just make it up as we go along.

When does a green flag mean a green flag anymore?

They will have done, hence Domenicalli was on tv about 5 minutes after the race quoting it, and the BBC team were talking about it just as quick if not quicker.

Except they're not making it up as they go along, they've followed the rule book to the letter.

The gaffe was made when they put the greens out, not in the decision after the race.

A track in New York state is in talks to host a Formula 1 grand prix in 2012, according to the chairman of a circuit vying to return the US to the calendar.

Representatives of Monticello Motor Club and F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone have been in talks regarding bringing the sport back to the United States.

"There was some agreement that Monticello could host a race," MMC chairman Bill McMichael told BBC Sport.

The US last held a grand prix in 2007 at Indianapolis in Indiana.

More to follow.

Not heard of this track before, anyone know anything about it?

Not sure if thats the only path around there, there's another pic on google images with different options but it won't paste. It looks quite windy, a few opportunities for overtaking too. Could work well!

Yep, but it would make things interesting as the teams would have to mess around with downforce settings to deal with the long straights and the windy bits.

It would be better perhaps if there was more heavy breaking after the long-straight, that seems to be the way to overtake

The only overtaking spot looks to be T10 and even then there is no telling how wide the entry is. These tracks with sweeping curves may look nice but they dont promote good racing.

Yeh, it's impossible to tell, i was sort of thinking it would be better going the other way round, so T10 was at the end of the straight and you had a heavy braking zone

But it's really impossible to tell how wide the track is

Got this of David Croft 5live commentator on twitter - CroftyF1 Just announced Austin, Texas will host an F1 GP in 2012. Track to be purpose built and deal until 2021

Tilke to design new Austin circuit

The new Austin Formula 1 track, which will host the American Grand Prix from 2012, is to be designed by Hermann Tilke, race organisers have announced.

Shortly after revealing its 10-year deal to hold the US event, Austin race promoters Full Throttle Productions have now earmarked a site for the circuit and confirmed that Tilke will be involved.

The exact location of the venue has not been disclosed, but Tavo Hellmund, managing partner of Full Throttle Productions, was quoted as saying by the Associated Press that its was 'more than 700 acres.'

Hellmund also ended speculation about who would design the track by confirming that F1 regular Tilke, the man behind track designs at Istanbul, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Shanghai, and Sepang, will be involved.

Race promoters said the track would be "one of the finest permanent road course facilities in the world. Fans should expect the craftsmanship Tilke is famous for, with a priority placed on green building and a track similar to the great grand prix tracks of previous generations."

For feck sake, will they not learn that he makes shit boring tracks?

It's Tilke, its a 75% chance of being aesthetically brilliant but ultimately a shit track.

Interesting if that was an engine that went for Webber

Has anyone got any information on how many engines people have used

I would imagine its just an fp engine for Webber, they run them to the ground. Red Bull seems to have some issues though with water pressure on Vettel's car, maybe the heat might do them here.
