The F1 Thread 2010 Season

There was a point during the middle of the year when Hamilton was beating the superior Red Bulls people I do think him and Alonso are a class above the rest I do think Seb can reach the level though.

Of course. Alonso and Hamilton are quite easily the best two drivers in F1. Alonso still slightly ahead of Lewis though. If one of those two was in a Red Bull this year the Championship would be long over.

I think Alonso is better than Hamilton too. Can't see Hamilton doing what Alonso did in a Renault really.

My dad (a devout Hamilton fan) came up with a scenario that would be amusing:

Into the last few laps Vettel is leading Webber, Alonso in third. Vettel moves over for Webber, but a few corners later Alonso's engine blows, putting him out of the race. Suddenly it's wide open for the Red Bulls again, and Vettel wants the place back since he gave it up. Webber's not going to give it to him, so Vettel really puts the hammer down, and with a few corners to go they tangle and take each other out.

Hamilton swans past the crash site from fourth (third after Alonso's engine failure) and takes the victory and thus the championship!

Of course it would be even more amusing if after that Hamilton spun out on the final corner, so Button took the win and Alonso the championship. I daren't say that in front of my dad, though, or I'll earn a slap.

Ha, yea that's true! The same could be said for my man Raikkonen I suppose, but I think that one outlined above it maybe a little too far fetched!

Lewis has much of a chance of winning the title as Harrison did tonight as much as I'd love it to happen.

If Vettel didn't have 3 engine issues he'd have been world champion at Korea even including his mistakes.

Yeah probably because he has the best car. But Seb is nowhere in the league of Alonso or Hamilton. He is very quick but his racecraft is poor.

You should add yet. He most definatly has the talent to be one up in that league but he isn't quite there just yet, he will never have the calculating mind of Alonso or the race craft of Hamilton but he has his own set of skills which is mainly he is quick when behind the wheel of a fast car.

Oh yeah. Seb has the ability to improve no doubt. But he isn't there yet by a long way.

It's clearly not 'by a long way' though, is it? His racecraft isn't the finished article yet, but he's by no means miles away. Look at his first race win, for example, some of the finest wet weather driving you'll see.

Yep he's not that far away he will be up there though. People forget Seb has been around as long as Lewis but was a years younger a teenager he jumped GP2 straight to F1 so still developing.

When has Vettel never been quick in F1? Apart from his first race for BMW he's constantly performed better then his team mates and put cars where they shoudn't be. Don't forget he absoutely whooped Webber and Coulthard in a team comprised mostly of ex Minardi workers. His race craft is not there yet, but it will be. This year has been a massive learning curve and recently he seems to have taken it as a serious wake up call because he's driven faultlessly.

The way I worded that made it sound like Vettel is only fast because of the Red Bull, what I meant was given the car he delivers the speed which a few people cannot do. His race craft might come to him, especially if he finds himself fighting in the pack abit more but I don't think he will ever be known for his race craft over his outright speed.

No doubt about his speed. If F1 was all about one lap and I was a team Principal I'd take Vettel any day. Over one lap he's fantastic.

His racecraft though has been lacking this year. Although he has improved a lot since Spa. Only 2nd to Alonso as the driver of the final 3rd of the season.

The comments about Vettel's race craft are silly. He is not a Alonso yet but that is to be expected as he is still yong & lernin. Lewis is no Alonso either in terms of race craft which is to be expected too.

Vettel could have become the youngest ever World Champion last year or this. Anyone doubting his ability or race craft in comparison to Lewis should get their tinted Brit specks off.

Vettel's reputation seems to have taken a hit due to a poor decision to overtake his teammate. The RBR has let him down far more than his race craft -

Bahrain: Spark Plug failure
Australia: loose wheel nut
Spain: Break problems
Canada: Gearbox issues
Silverstone: Puncture in the first lap
Monza: Break Issues
Korea: Engine Failure

That's what I was getting at tbf. Hamilton's got no chance.

I'd love to see Webber win it but that's very unlikely now too. For some reason I just really don't want Vettel to take it, but not too sure why.

Everyone seems to be slating his as a driver when in traffic, wasnt there a video of the button crash where he got a certain distance from the side of buttons car and the air unloaded his front wing, surely thats a determining factor in the crash, could the same thing have happened in the webber crash earlier in the year?

My shout to win it today is vettel, would love to see hamilton do it but dont think thats going to happen, alonsos going to have to push from the start due to webber being behind him, had he been 4th behind the red bulls and hamilton he could have just trundled round and protected the engine

Would rather have webber win it than vettel, but given the choice between vettel or alonso (more importantly alonso in a ferrari) id prefer vettel everyday of the week

Alonso should win it and then go and celebrate at Ferrari World.

Can't wait for todays race, i'll say that its Alonso that will win the title. Race win, i've no idea.

It would be great if Button and Webber could out drag Fernando into turn one and leave him having to fight for it.
