The F1 Thread 2009 Season

That was bizarre with no times set with 3 minutes to go, Fisi was always going to get pole as soon as Jordon said he wouldn't

Barrichello is laughing up in 4th, he has a great chance of a win tomorrow and Button is going to have to do something special to get points.

I am looking forward to it though.

The most bizarre qualifying session for sometime. Hopefully theres rain in the race & make things interesting

This will probably be his only shot at a title that was basically handed to him. His team mate is extracting performance from the car but he can't seem too.

His title to pretty much lose from the 8th round and he's doing a good job of it......

But the championship isn't 8 races long though is it?

At no point has it ever been Buttons title.

Formula one is mental this season. I like it

By the way, Luca Badoer has absolutely smashed the concept that it's all about the car. Not that anyone who had an ounce of a clue ever thought that any way

Even Jenson Button is showing it up somewhat, get your game together lad

One of the finest sporting spectacles imo!

The circuit is very much one where the driver makes all the difference anyway but in the rain it really does 'sort the men from the boys', as much as I hate that cliché!

There was a wet race there in, I think, 05? Raikkonen put in a blistering lap to take the lead during the second round of stops, was a great race.

6 wins from 8 races. If not for piss poor driving, he's be solidly upwards of 100 points right now.

The championship is 18 races long, but he's done a good job shooting himself in the foot. Its like Spurs at OT last season. Could have won the game, but allowed us back in.

Do you not tire of sounding like a penis?

You're slagging off the driver who's 18 points clear of any one else in the standings right now

The last race and the qualifying for this, his car is clearly better than the result he's managed to get out of it. He was on the wrong tyre for qualifying, soft when those who went through to Q3 were on hard

Damage limitation for him today, but you'd still want to be in his position rather than anyone elses right now

Wow what a start to the race!

Raikkonen took a place after going off the track, bet they don't do feck all about it. All hell would be breaking lose if that was Hamilton

The good news for Button is that Barrichello dropped to the back of the grid, and Vettel / Webber are still in the low points scoring positions

He might get out of this with his 18 point lead intact, and that'd be an exceptional result all things granted

First time Button fails to score

Do you want to invent any more excuses to warrant him bottling the title? Rubens is achieving results that are not great, but taking chunks out of Button's lead in the same car.....

Oh and I wouldn't want to be in his position right about now. You know, sitting at the side of the track with his good mate Hamilton.

Webber is in trouble, that wont help him much.

The McLarens, Brawns and Force Indias are going to be mega at Monza, so much faster on the straights.

In the grand scheme of the championship i think Vettel would be most pleased with todays result, he just needs to pray he holds onto those engines.

He avoided an incident at the start, so the F.I.A. take a blind eye.

You've either consistent applying the rules or you're not. He went off the track and gained a place by the time he was back on again. Today it turns out, had he been penalised as others have, Force India would have won the race, Barmy!

 'Chunks', but still 16 points behind with 5 races to go

You take a driver for their performances over a season, and Buttons have been far far better than anyone elses

He needs some big scores soon because that lead won't last long otherwise, but to already be accusing him of 'bottling it' is complete nonsense

You just don't like the English do you! It seeps out in every post

Brad you are very anti Ferrari! Kimi had no choice but to go wide at the start, which I should remind you Hamilton did in 07 with no penalty so hush about inconsistant rulings.

Delighted for Kimi getting the win, but slightly annoyed that I put my bet on him e/w

I love Ferrari. I just don't like the laws being applied differently because they are Ferrari. And there's absolutely no doubt that's gone on for a long time now

Fair enough, that comment just seemed very anti. And I know what you mean about Ferrari having had the benefit of decisions in the past, but that seems to have gone very much out if the window in the last year.

People go wide ar the start of the race at Spa every year, to suggest Hamilton would have been penalised for that is farcical because he did the exact same thing when Alonso ran him wide in 07, there was no penalty then and it's right that there was none today - irrelevant of the colour of the car.

In that situation he was forced off the track when he was going faster and nearly side by side with his rival, in that case Alonso

Today Raikkonen just ran wide, and on coming back had clean taken a position

I think you're forgetting Spa last year if you think it's gone out of the window in the last year! All that's happened this season is that Ferarri are nowhere near any positions where they need 'assistance'

No today Kimi went wide because he had no choice, unless you consider driving into the side of Trulli an option?

I can't be arsed going into last years Spa ruling. The FIA have demonstrated quite clearly this season that they are not giving Ferrari any form of assistance, they have been in a very public and very bitter row!

People seem to think the way Brad is because of Brundles comment during the race.

Kimi had enough track to make the corner but had the Toyota up the inside. He will claim he avoided an incident taking the longer route. Its not as if he deliberately cut a corner now is it :smirk:

In the end it shouldn't mar Kimi's performance. He held out for 35 odd laps.

Takes massive mental and physical strength to do that in a car that wasn't even the 2nd fastest on the grid.

A real drivers drive, and I dare say, put himself right in to position to keep his drive for next season. Ferrari cannot afford to let a driver like Kimi go. Massa on the other hand, well he's not exactly a driver thats going to come back and bite you in the arse.

 Yeh I've had that accusation thrown at me a couple of times this season. Funny because this is only the 2nd race this season I've had Brundles commentary, the rest of the time it was in Swedish! And I don't remember his mentioning Raikkonen going off at all today

Same happened in the cricket, that declaration decision in the 2nd test, folk were saying I was just copying what Botham was saying in the studio. Completely irrespective of the fact I didn't have Sky coverage, and thus had absolutely no idea what any experts were saying about the situation

I take it as a compliment personally

Right..... so you didn't watch the race at all then......... Specifically from say turn one onwards till before the safety car went in.......
