The F1 Thread 2008 Season

Don't get it why they lifted Glock out of the car like that, despite him saying he's fine you never know what injuries a crash like that could give you.. He didn't look alright at all..

Hehe everyone in the pits, apart from Hamilton, interesting stuff.

A little twist to what was becoming a boring race.

everyone going in for the pit-stop but not Hamilton

Hamilton comes out behind Massa and his team mate.

Well well well...

He has the pace to catch them but will he have enough to pass them?

This race is going to be hailed as one of his greatest drives now by the media...

What a poor show by Ferrari. Not seen them this bad for a few years.

Jesus Hamilton in a class of his own

Bloody hell Ferrari, that was an awful race from both of their drivers.

Purest form of team orders I have ever seen.

Thank feck Raikkonen gains some positions after that pitstop where he lost a lot of places because he had to wait for Massa.

Massa is an idiot, what the hell was he doing going all the way to the left before the hairpin. Stay right ya dumb feck and Hamilton doesn't get the chance to pass!

So speaketh the people who've claimed for a season and a half that Hamilton is overated!

That was immense. Even his own team tried to cock it up for him, and he was still far, far too good to be held back

Martin Brundle gave his driver of the day to Piquet, and given the rumours about his drive next season, and the way he held his position ahead of Massa once he had it, I can understand why. But there was one man in an absolute class of his own out their today. He effectively won the race twice

Am I the only one who found that race really boring?

Admittedly Hamilton was ace, but he had absolutely no competition, either, given that his two closest competitors were labouring under really shite cars. It basically sums up modern Formula One -- fast car results in an easy win.

And I think I might just explode if the British media take Hamilton's cock any further up their asses. It's now being described as an "attacking and overtaking masterclass", when, in fact, all three cars effectively dived out of his way to let him through.

Again, excellent race by Hamilton and he's nailed on for the Driver's Championship surely but it was still a feckin' boring couple of hours.

Spot on Brad, he's been driving like a World Champion for the past couple of races now. I've been saying since last season the lad is a genius behind the wheel, the purest talent I have seen in years of watching the sport, the best since Schumacher for me.

Last twenty laps or so were enjoyable, and he still had plenty of work to do to pass Massa and Piquet, although admittedly they didn't make it hard for him.

If you don't like motor racing, you don't like it mate. It wasn't the greatest race ever for the most part, although there was plenty of overtaking. And after Glock crashed out, it was a belter

Hamilton can't be accused of having had the best car all season. The Ferrari has been the best for the majority. Suddenly they don't have the advantage they did, their team is starting to make questionable decisions, and their drivers don't look up to the job

Kovaleinen has the same car under him as Hamilton. I didn't see him pulling clear of the field, or sything his way through it. Are you just determined to give Hamilton absolutely no credit for what was an imperious drive?

What? No!

I gave Hamilton ample credit; it was a fantastic drive. He was miles out ahead and for the second race in a row he's won it comfortably. He is, as I said, nailed on for the Driver's Championship.

I just made the point that he had next to no reasonable competition, which is, of course, partly down to his brilliance, but there are other factors to consider. The Ferraris were dire today (you've got to admit they're not normally that bad), and Kovaleinen isn't really a fair yardstick to measure Hamilton's progress because Heikki, despite being a lovely bloke, is a fairly shit driver. Alonso ran Hamilton close last season (they finished level on points), and look where he is now.

The car plays a massive part, but all credit to Hamilton. He's really on top at the moment and I think he's got this season in the bag if he just keeps this up.

So, no, I'm not saying Hamilton doesn't deserve this. I'm saying I always find it boring when Formula One goes through these phases where one driver/car combination is just unbeatable. We had to suffer five long years of it with Schumacher, I thought with this new generation we might have a more even field (like last season).

Its slightly worrying what is happening with Ferrari. They have been slowly going off the mark - it hasn't just been this race - take a look at Kimi's last 5 or 7 races and where he has finished. I wouldn't write Ferrari off though, people did that last year. There is one small good thing about that as we now have the second tier of Renault's, BMW's, Toyota's and Red Bull's right behind, whereas in previous years the top 2 could afford a bad day and finish on the podium.

Hamilton can only beat what is in front (well behind) him and he has a good car under him. Things look good if he and his team keep their heads - they made a few rash decisions at the end of last year just like they did today.

Today was perhaps the first day that the McClaren has been unbeatable all season (in Hamiltons hands), and you're bored of it already?!

There's a motor series for you, its called A1 GP. Go and watch that. And when you're bored because it isn't the pinicle of motor sport, come back and appreciate how good F1 really is!

They made absolutely the right decision to remove driver aids at the start of this season. We've had some of the best races for years. Its not like driving on a computer game for them anymore, its a real test which is sorting the men from the boys. Great prospects like Vettel, Kubica and Hamilton are all getting the absolute most out of their cars, while the others are making mistakes and falling down the grid. Its great entertainment, and its really competitive stuff

Need I remind you, with the talk of even fields, that going into this race we had a 3 way tie for the championship, with Kubica just 2 points behind...

Another outstanding drive from Hamilton today in a well prepared car....now if Ferrari had as good a car their drivers might have been a little closer to him today.

Great to see Piquet Jr get second - I used to enjoy watching his Dad in his Williams days.

Couldn't agree more, they have finally made a decision that has been good for the sport, and this season so far has really benefited from it as a spectacle, some really great racing and a tight leader board for the championship.

not again.

Can't find it on any websites, only the official statement, which is probably censored by Mclaren, but a friend of mine told me it was on Finish tv.

And I agree with Brad, thank god for that ban on driver aids, it's been a really good season so far.

Let's hope the reintroduction of slicks and the lowering of downforce levels in 2009 will add to this positive trend.

Aye, the cars slide about here and there now and it leads to mistakes other drivers can capitalise on and overtake.

Those new aero changes should make things better even better in theory. I've heard talks ( outrageous rumour ) of allowing a button which makes the wings flappy during a period of the lap to help in overtaking - sort of a technical boost button like we have already seen. It might not be true though..

They are introducing that budget scheme though so we may see even more competitiveness throughout the field.

Regarding pitting under the safety car, it's hard not to think that McLaren were damned if they did and damned if they didn't. By doing so, their lead would have been wiped out and they were on their less favoured soft tyres. By not doing so, they were giving the rest a free pitstop. They're all laughing about it now, but it was a genuinely tough call IMO. When Mick was at his peak, Brawn always knew that whatever happened, Mick could drive them home though sheer pace - and Lewis had that today. They reckon they made it tougher for Lewis, bollox - for him, overtaking those cars at the end was like taking candy from a baby.

He's on another level just now, only Raikkonen has a chance and he's the only one good enough IMO - if he comes out of his current malaise that is.

Nah, Hamilton's got this wrapped up. He's just too good. Raikkonen has always had the benefit of a far superior car -- the only driver out there on the grid that can match Hamilton for sheer talent is Alonso, in my opinion, though he's struggling somewhat.

And I agree with the above sentiments on the ban on driver aids. It really has helped sort the men from the boys. Notice how many more mistakes, for example, Massa is making. He's been nowhere near his best this season -- the only reason he's in touch with his teammate and Hamilton is because the two of them keep making stupid mistakes.

If Hamilton can stop with the silliness that strikes him sometimes (and it looks like he might be on top of that now) then there's no reason that he shouldn't go on to be the dominant force in this sport for a while.

If only I didn't hate McLaren so much I might be able to enjoy it more.

Also, what's this about Kovaleinen? If another driver starts to complain about unfair treatment at the hands of McLaren, maybe there was a little more to what Alonso was saying than simple bitterness. But these other drivers have got to consider why Hamilton shouldn't get preferential treatment? He's English, he's charming and he's essentially come through McLaren's version of a youth academy. Of course they're going to like him.

Thing is, you just wouldn't be saying those things 2 races ago. Hamiltons home victory changed all that, perhaps the decision of Ferrari to leave Kimi on his current tires after their first pit stop has had far more far reaching implications that they realised. The tide has changed fundimentally. That's fantastic, thats Formula 1. We could all arrive at Budapest, and advancements and conditions meaning its all change once again

I think everyone agrees with the end to driver aids being an extremely positive change. Except Massa maybe! Doesn't it make you feel a bit cheated all these years knowing what we might have missed out on? Although talking of cheats, such changes mean Schumacher might have been even more dominant... :(

Also, he's their best driver and best chance of the drivers title, it makes sense to favour Lewis and has happened throughout the history of the sport for all the teams.

Hungary will be a Hamilton win again, I'm quite sure of that. Mclaren is always very strong there.

Ferrari on the other hand always seem to come through in the final races of the season... It will be exciting till the end that's for sure.
