The F1 Thread -2007

I'd say they've been about equal speed wise and Hamilton has had marginally better finishes - that's why the Championship is so close, but he's ahead.

They've pulled off some nice moves between them as well, Alonso pulled a beauty on Massa at the Nurburgring, Hamilton totally caught Raikkonen at Monza, and they've had proper ding-dongs between themselves in USA and at Spa.

For what it's worth, I think it finally kicked off at Monaco, but probably had been bubbling under before that. From the outside, they seem to have vastly different personalities and ways of working, fascinating really.

Ron looks weak in the face of them.

Hamilton even if he loses has had a great season for one so young

he will have nowt to worry about

one for now, one for the future

good lad

Racism row sparked by slur from Spanish motor sport's chief.

GRAND Prix sensation Lewis Hamilton was caught in a racism row last night after shocking comments by Spain’s top motor racing official.

Carlos Gracia claimed Britain is a racist country and said it was ironic that Brit fans were counting on a black driver.

Hamilton, 22, is poised to become the first rookie ever to win the F1 title.

The McLaren driver needs to finish second in Brazil on Sunday to be sure of landing the crown. His biggest rival is his Spanish team-mate Fernando Alonso.

Gracia — who will be a guest of McLaren at the race — sparked fury by saying: “It is perfectly normal for a British team and British fans wanting to succeed in F1, but it is ironic that the racists in England are having to rely on a coloured pilot.”

Former driver Johnny Herbert said: “These comments are just outrageous. What a very strange thing to say.”

Spanish racists have also posted sick videos and comments about Hamilton on the internet. One said: “Black man of ****.”

Furious
It follows a disgusting outburst by Spanish footie coach Luis Aragones, who caused outrage by calling ex-Arsenal ace Thierry Henry “a monkey”.

Gracia is now certain to be given the cold shoulder by Hamilton when they meet in Brazil.

He is only a guest of McLaren because he asked for an independent F1 delegate to be present to ensure fair play.

There is intense rivalry between Hamilton and reigning champ Alonso, who is furious at not getting priority treatment.

Ex-Jaguar driver Herbert added: “Both Alonso and Gracia are behaving like kids. It’s very sad.”

Gracia claimed his comments were misinterpreted.

He said: “What I meant was England has been looking for a Formula 1 idol for years and no matter who he was they were going to give him all their support.

“There was no racist element to what I said.”

so monkey and shit means the same thing in Spanish?

Hmm so which of the two countries still greats black players on the pitch with monkey chants then?

The desperation of Alonso and his supporters this season has been just something else. What a great shame if he goes on to win the championship, I can't think of a less worthy winner. I'd rather Raikkonen won it

Did he actually say the first line of quotes or was he really mis-interpreted as he now claims in the media?

The whole posting sick or racist comments happens all the time anyway...

Anyway another decent bit of news was the fact that Massa signed a new contract - now where does this leave Alonso, Renault?

I actually think if he goes on to win the championship he may just stay at McLaren.

talkSPORT had Paul Breen-Turner on earlier this morning, [he's their go-to guy for Spanish stories] and according to him the Minister for Sport in Spain ahs come out and condmned the comments. That would suggest that there is a reasonable amount of truth to them.

Hamilton.

Hamilton under investigation again for using tyres he shouldn't have used, according to the rules for qualifying sessions under the rain.
McLaren (incompetent pricks) sent their apologies to the commissioners. Pathetic.

Wouldn't it be fun to see Hamilton start from row 9 on the starting grid - as would be fair?

Didn't something similar happen with a ferrari car earlier in the season?

Frankly, I don't know.
But the point is: how stupid is it to make such a mistake, given the circumstances and all that's happened this season? What if the commissioners enforced the rules by the book? Whose fault would it be then? The commissioners'? Ferrari's? Or the McLaren daft team managers?

How many wet sets do they have for the weekend? Part of the punishment was that he had to sacrifice a set of wets for the race....and didn't he effectively run out of tyre at the last race? Either way, he could've done without another brush with the authorities.

Qually should be good. Hamilton tends to go light and push for the pole, compromising him slightly on race day, but worth it in the greater scheme of things....I wonder will he go light today, or be a bit more conservative.

1. F Massa

2. L Hamilton

3. K Raikkonen

4. F Alonso

5. M Webber

6. N Heidfeld

7. R Kubica

quali went pretty well for hamilton...

Good grid for Hamilton, both his title rivals behind him. If he is running a bit light it might help him get a flyer off the line and ahead of Massa.

Come on Lewis, finish the job off.

If Hamilton finishes, he'll win the Championship, I'm sure of that. Excellent qualifying result for him, ahead of his two main rivals. Presumably the Ferrari plan is to just let Massa race, and should towards the end Raikkonen move into 2nd, discretely switch the two. Then its up to the McClaren drivers not to pick up enough points. I can't see a situation where Kimi wins it personally

Should be a cracking day. Come on Lewis lad, your nation is behind you

How long till the race?

I wouldn't go that far about Raikkonen. If Hamilton doesn't finish, for whatever reason, then Kimi effectively becomes the favourite - if, as it appears after qualifying (which is a poor indicator admittedly), Ferrari are set fair for a 1-2, should they require it.

any streaming links ??

I wouldn't know. Thankfully, I will be watching it live on TV.

Just to let you know it starts in just less than 10 minutes so I'd get searching, especially as the start is often the best bit about the race!

Well, here it is good luck Lewis, finish the job.

fecking shocking start there, wtf was he doing?

Lewis back to seventh.

This is going to be great, makes for a fecking heart in mouth race for the championship.

fecking love it.

this is not motogp you know

expect kimi n massa to pull away now

and its all over
unless he can pull something out of the hat

Depends where Lewis finishes you Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.

Inexperience got the better of Hamilton there....still only 2 places off the title.

Long, long way to go so far from over.
