The curious case of Alexis - what do we do?

The classic Rooney conundrum. Play him in x position. When he flops there, play him in y position. When he’s a disaster there, play him in z position. Another failure? He should have been playing x all along. Let’s play him there!

Of course, we decided to buy him when we already had martial and rashford. It's the obligation of the manager to use his assets which suits their strengths and cover weaknesses. He is much better near the box in a fast one touch footballing stuff and that's where he should be playing. And unless you play them for significant games chances of getting back to top form are less, so we have to totally give it a try, and accommodate him there. The onus is on him to make it count.

Let's also recall mourinho destroyed all of our attackers combined with all the injuries he has sustained. So I still have hope he is not finished. He is way fitter than Rooney to be honest.

I’d honestly just offer him a mutual termination package and get him off our wage bill, at this point I’d honestly play the likes of Chong and Gomes ahead of Sanchez at this point.

I’m not sure there’s ever been a bigger flop for us than Sanchez and it’s now got to the point where his outrageous contract is affecting us contract wise with other players. The likes of De Gea and Pogba will/do want Sanchez size wages and the reality is it’s hard to say no seeing how little Sanchez does to get what he does.

How much do you think that would cost?!

If he is on somewhere in the 300-500k a week domain, that's something like 18-26m a year! And 3 (is it?) more years on that deal?

So if you had 50-75m in wages contracted, it's probably going to take a minimum of 30-40m to make you give that up! And we're not just shelling that out to get rid. He's not "That" bad.

We have to wait and see and hopefully he'll get into some form. Even now he should be able to find some form and challenge his competitors if they are out of form. We should look to get rid of him, but if it is unlikely or impossible, we have to try to get some kind of use out of him. A disappointment but he has it in him to play a part at least if we just accept that.

Given he’s a huge reason we’re struggling to tie our best players to new contracts...Just how do you move someone who earns £700,000k a week away from the club?

Do Chinese clubs still have that sort of money to throw around? Or do you seem him taking a huge pay cut just to escape from Manchester?

Edit: can any if the mods fix the title? Thanks.

Brilliant thread - has instant classic potential

He either becomes the highest paid squad player (Bale?) In world football
Or we try to feck him off on some 2 year loan deal to Atletico or so, with them paying some of his wages
China would definitely be able to afford his wages, and if PSG were offered him on a free they might be interested

He really has to leave, we have to hold up our hands and say 'we were greedy and got it wrong', we did'nt need him at the time, he has'nt produced and it's taken some time to 'settle' things down, give him away on a free, use him as bait in a swap, loan him, what ever, but get rid.

Get rid. Pay there quarters of his wages and send him on loan if need be.

He is completely done.

Give him the Schweinsteiger treatment.
-- kick him out of the team, clear out his locker, send to reserve or stay away from the club. Let yourself be a laughingstock. Free to leave. Tell your agent to get you a new club quickly.

Not classy, but then if it'll force him out of the club, sure, do it.
We're not a charity club that give over payment to expired star player.

Then again, why he's given that amount of payment is already from the start -- ridiculous by the club, probably expecting him to be this messiah or some sort that shall help United be champions again. His form/performances for Arsenal just before that showed zero signs of that capability anyway. Jeez.

Push the wage barrier and you'll get the rest of the current players demanding higher and higher. It's not rocket science, but alas whoever is in charge doesn't seem to get it.

I’m just thinking if I were a player in a struggling team and we brought in a player who was still considered one of the best in the league at the time, I’d be ok with it despite the huge wages being talked about.

What I would be pissed off about though, is some mop head, albeit with good chest control, publicly slagging the club all summer and then getting the contract he wanted.

Not gonna lie I was all for this transfer and insisted he would be mustard. Deludedly, I still think he will come good because I genuinely cannot understand how such an effective player can become so shit within such a short space of time.

Having said that I wouldn't object to us offloading him.

Sell him to anyone who wants him. I dont know who other than PSG or China that can afford his wages but he has to go.

Worst thing that happened with our club in last 2 years. His signing will continue to haunt united for a very long time and could cost us some of our disgruntled key players.

I think everyone should accept the reality that we are gonna give Alexis, Fred transfer fee type money to get him of the books as a free. He then probably proceed to go back to Udinese(no big club is going to touch him) where he will hope to rejuvenate his career in Serie A. He will probably accept whatever decent wages they offer as will have 35-45m in his pocket. Also if he still wants more big money he will go the China route

Sanchez wont go anywhere. He knows hes finished at the top end. Lower clubs cant afford him. Hes got another x (depending on whether its £350,000-£500,000 a week) millions to pick up for the next 2 seasons after this. We will keep trying him out as we cant justify leaving him rot on the bench.

He will after we pay off his contract that's the best option in my opinion. It's better to have Greenwood getting experience from the bench rather than keeping someone we don't even want on the bench taking up space

He is not "That" bad but he will be a destruction when the media starts hounding Ole about him. If we do get an RW option for next season I see him struggling to make the bench and if space does come through injuries and suspensions I would rather it go to Greenwood/Gomes/Chong . Also I think it's the best option for all parties involved, Alexis finds himself a lesser club where he will play regularly and we get to move on and fix our budget accordingly

Hate to say it, but I feel like we're stuck with him. It's not the best for him, and it's certainly not the best for us. Only way we get rid is if we still pay some of his wages, which would be the ultimate piss take.
I'd do it just to be rid of him.

I actually think we've missed him as an option since his injury. That doesn't mean I think he's been a success before I get pelters.
he was offering nothing before his injury. his availability or not makes no difference.

If Ole tells him that he is no longer in his plans and he should look for a move if he wants playing time, what would Sanchez do? Just sit and collect the paycheck or move to another club for a lower wage? That's the real question. If he decides to stay, there's absolutely nothing we can do about it.

Something is going to have to give with the Sanchez scenario soon. If he carries on playing as he has done, combined with the reality of him getting the largest salary at the club (supposedly), then match-going fans will soon turn on him and create a really difficult environment.
It has the potential to make for a difficult dressing room and if he becomes really unhappy, then he will just rot on the bench whilst taking a huge slice of the wage budget.
The club needs to address this situation before it gets out of hand. I don't see him being able to turn his fortunes around at the club, unfortunately.

Bit of strange title. His future depends on him not us so the idea of ‘what do we do?’is a non question imo.

He has to get his talented arse in gear and repay the faith we have in him

Thought he was on £900k?

It depends on how much we offer him. Let's just say he would earn 50 million between now and the end of his contract. We would probably have to offer 40 million for him to agree. Would the glazers agree to that money or would they say no play him we can't write off 40 million for nothing. Sanchez will only get a much smaller salary wherever he goes in future, so will look for as much as possible if he is kicked out, hence around 75-80% of the total he would look for..

Only going to happen if he gets chances in right position and the fanbase doesn't discard him. He has always been a hard worker and before his injury he seemed on the verge of hitting some form, though injury derailed it all again.

They want wage parity with his ridiculous wages. And why not, lots of better players than him in the squad.
It's not unreasonable to think that what they really want is a raise, to know who their manager will be, and to believe they will play in a team that can challenge for major trophies. I reckon they've used Sanchez's wages to make even more ludicrous demands, knowing the club can't agree to them. Ultimately, everyone here should know by now that Pogba and De Gea want to play for another club sooner rather than later.

I mean technically he isn’t getting that 700k as there is no way he is hitting the bonuses that trigger that in his wage so he gets his basic 350k which is still ridiculous given his contribution. Right now I really don’t see any one with the finiacial might to pay equivelant wages wanting him so it would be down to him to realise his value isn’t as high as it once was. Based on current form he would struggle to get 200k a week.

So there isn’t anything to do as we are somewhat stuck with him unless a miracle happens.

I think we should burgle his house. It worked with Di Maria.

We just have to take a hit. Sell him off and pay 30-40% of his wages. His new club will have to pay the remainder.

No club, not even the Chinese will pay £350k a week for him.

This way it will free up money for a younger player or two.

There's no other way.

Either way if we do get a rw Sanchez will be 6th choice. That's means he will barely make the bench, whether we pay him off or not he will be getting money for absolutely feck all

He can leave now, and take his fecking piano with him too. A total calamity of a signing.
