I had no idea who he was beyond "some rando with a science degree", but kept seeing him pop up on youtube/podcasts. Then I saw this video and how my god....you are spot on, he's a complete lunatic.

 


there's a lot of interesting reasons why this anger - which logically must be the driving force of any left-wing movement - hasn't led to any success in elections or for left organisations, but it's always fun to see!

It is one of those rare moments where it clearly isn't a left or right issue even if the guy came back maga or marxist you'd say that was secondary to his motivation considering what he left on the bullets.

I wouldn't defend the murder of a man though. I can certainly understand it all the same. If you were driven insane, to the brink, in all sorts of ways, by healthcare disasters and an insurance company (most of them really) was ruining your life. You might, especially if you were terminally ill or something, just say feck it.

American big tech, especially content and social medial companies, have definitely gone back on political correctness and issues such as DEI.

So what’s going on here? What’s their motivation for these changes? Do they think it will help sell their products? Or is it to curry favour with Trump?

The overton window has definitely shifted now, but this was always coming. And the various political establishments, together with what’s now become known as the ‘mainstream/legacy/museum/[insert adjective here]’ media, shares much of the blame for this.
 
Fact checkers have destroyed more trust than created? What is out of touch with mainstream discourse? By shut out people with different ideas does he mean shutting out racists. How exactly is Texas less politically biased than California. Really bad speech and policy decision. Zuck has lost his mind.

It is half pandering to Trump and his base. Half acknowledging the polarisation in US over politics where likes of Meta have been under attack from the right for pandering to the liberal left with content moderation policies that censor speech against some topics referred by Zuckerberg. Another factor seems to be that all the US big tech companies have been facing a series of fines and rough regulations from EU. They see Trump's USA first & No.1 approach as a potential out for the same. I definitely see them using Trump to weaponise US policies against such regulations in coming years.
 
I did start using feck in my everyday (written) language because of censorship on social media. I'm somewhat in favor of this.

Yeah just listened to it and I think you’re spot on. It’s a financial move. They want to cosy up to Trump to take on the EU. And the best way to do that is to align themselves with his buddy Elon in how they run their social media. It’s really grim but actually predictable. At the end of the day all these tech bros are small government libertarians, no matter how progressive they like to think they are about social issues.

It is very easy to label "racist" or "fascist" anyone that disagrees with you, just because you don't like his opinion and you want to shut him up. There is absolutely no defence if someone labels you "racist" or "fascist", it doesn't matter how much you insist that no you are not, that you believe in democracy and equality for all.

This has been happening for too long, in too many platforms and media, and many people are fed up with it. One good example is what has been happening with J. K. Rowling. A lot of people cannot debate, they just give labels "racist", "fascist" and they think they have won the argument.

And this is one of the (many) reasons that Trump won the popular vote, even though he is a criminal. So, yes, fact checkers have destroyed more trust than created, this is obvious by the results. And the reason is that their "facts" are often their own political bias.

(Obviously, the issue here in not scientific facts, like the fact that the speed of light in vacuum is 300,000 km/s. )

It is very much a fake issue related to scientific facts because a huge part of the outrage at fact checkers was conspiracy theorists wanting the "freedom" to spread misinformation regarding COVID. The reality is that Trump and his associates want to be able to spread lies and misinformation without any push back. Trump wants to spread his bullshit about election fraud in 2020 without any fact checking of his lies.

I have not seen any labeled a racist or fascist just because they disagree with someone but because Trump supporters very often advocate for fascist policies and make racist dog whistles. Trump and his people are not called out by fact checkers because of political bias, they are called more because they lie far more than anyone else and actively spread lies and misinformation more than anyone else.

I don't know what J..K. Rowling has to do with anything. Has she posted something that was incorrectly called false by fact checkers?
