The comprehensive Ronaldo thread

It’s a good job the club acted as fast as it did or he’d be staying. No one in Europe is going to want that.

This WC is the biggest reality check he has had in this football career, bit of a shit way to go really but he needs to go live his life away from football.

Please go to a club where you end up sitting on the bench for a third time, prick. bye

is he gonna end his international carreer today or during the final so hes in the media instead of messi?

The moment came for him when Bruno played him down the outside and he smashed it straight at the Morocco keeper.

Lets be frank, its been a disastrous month for Ronaldo.

In his mind he probably thought he could force his way out of United, have a sparkling World Cup and then have the pick of elite teams after proving he's back.

In reality, he got dropped from Portugal's starting XI because of his poor performances and nobody will be knocking down his door after we've seen.

He's cut himself adrift and for what..? He may even have to watch Messi lift the World Cup next weekend. What a way to go out.

He has to retire really but being one cap away from the record will see him stay on. It’ll be dressed up as some sort of nonsense farewell in Portugal

Last hurrah for Ronaldo, the only thing he could do to boost his legacy for the past few years was to have a good World Cup and it’s been a failure.

No knockout goals in the World Cup and only 8 goals from 22 games. Hat-trick against Spain was the only iconic moment from five editions of them, and he’s only scored 5 goals in the other 21, for a player that relies on goal scoring to compared to the greats. A strike rate of only 0.36 goals per game in World Cup games is poor.

At the end of the day it’s the World Cup that matters, it’s the only time the best players in the world come together. So his international career cannot be compared to many other greats.

interested to see what a post football Ronaldo looks like, his personality feels like someone who needs to be in the public eye

I'm happy he is gone from United and that Morocco are through. However I can't not feel something when I see him cry after his last WC game ever. I think as fans, it's healthier not to just be about hatred when it comes to all things Ronaldo related basically.

With all his money he doesn't need to do anything but his love for the spotlight I'd think he do a Mourinho and be a manager, probably not a good one mind

He’ll buy into a club. My friend has a theory that he wanted out of United because he was investing into us with the new owners.
It’s out there but it does kind of make sense.

Feck that, and feck him.

Agree.

Ha! Nope! Enjoyed Portugals exit immensely.

Maybe I'm reading into things. But Ronaldo leaving on his own right at the final whistle says it all about him. Maybe if he was more of a team spirit figure, Portugal would've been better off? You win as a team, lose as a team. With ronaldo, it's all about him. Can't clap the fans off, can't sit with the team, just fecks off on his own.

Yup. I can see him calling it quits on his career. He's not the type to go to Saudi and his career dwindle into irrelevance. He'd sooner retire I think. I'd imagine he's done with the national team and is done with top level European football. I think he's going to retire.

Really idiotic doing that interview. Could of stayed at Manchester United and got past 150 goals maybe. Instead will have to either retire or go to the Saudi club as no champions league club will want him.

I particulary liked the unexpected presser he turned up for, to tell the media how dare they make it all about him. Utter sideshow

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it. I just don't feel any extra joy seeing him crying tbh. He is completely inconsequential to me

Grown billionare crying over a bruised ego. I felt nothing for him, just indifference if I'm honest. Happy for Morocco though!

He really is the football equivalent of Kanye West.

I had never before seen 2 legends in their own fields, absolutely annihilate and set aflame their entire legacies with their own abhorrent behavior as quickly as these 2 have this year...

The most telling how he is completely unaware what his status is in world football is that he didn't have an exit plan twice.

In the summer when he asked to leave I was sure he had a club lined up and was surprised this wasn't the case and he has to crawl back after being rejected by every club he thought that would jump on the opportunity to sign him.

And not only did he not learn from it but he worsened his status by playing like crap and throwing tantrums and showing publicly he is an awful teammate when things don't revolve around him.

And yet did the exact same thing again a couple months later, which is absolutely insane arrogance.

His only small chance was having a stellar world cup which unsurprisingly didn't happen and now he manouvred himself in a situation he ends up humiliated.

Fine line between being surpremely confident and total delusion.

Hard to feel sorry for him.

'the records chase me'

Next in the Pier Morgan’s interview, “The World Cup have disrespected me for 5 editions, I do not respect the World Cup because it doesn’t respect me”

Glad this World Cup is over now and that he proved we were right, and now we can move on from all this.

Agreed. The modern fandom's obsession of rabidly taking the side of a player that doesn't even know they exist and bashing any competitors is extremely weird to me.

Wonder if there might be some stories in the press about how he should have started, despite not offering anything at all when he came on.

As I said before, I can't believe he did that interview right before the World Cup; also had the bad reaction when he was subbed against South Korea and then you have his family going crazy in the media when he's finally dropped. Just an awful awful distraction for a team aiming to win the World Cup and a team that might have actually done it with a bit of luck.

That exit was the icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned. I really couldn’t stomach Portugal winning it and he then making it all about himself. He would have had support and the backing of United fans but he decided to burn his bridges so he can feck off now.

I do feel for Cristiano to some extent seeing him cry after the final whistle (though it's probably not a behavior you'd expect from captain storming out of pitch like that but we know Ronaldo's antics), it's been worst year of his life (in general and football-wise). However, we'd all have much more sympathy if he wasn't acting like a prick last 6 months, topping it with that Piers Morgan interview, that basically ruined his relationship with United for good.

Terrible World Cup for him and Portugal in the end. He said he'd retire when he's 40 so that would mean him playing for Portugal at Euros in 2024 but even that is highly improbable with his decline. Do believe he'll take that offer from Saudi Arabia as it's incredible money and an easy league before retirement.

Pretty shitty way to end a carrier...
Maybe he'll learn to be humble for once. Euro 2024 is still within his reach.
