I don't know any of the U21's either, I'd never seen Rashford, Elanga, Greenwood prior to them making the jump, and lets face it, we'd be better off knowing whether they can handle it sooner rather than later

Now that Al Nassr have Cristiano, I wonder if we'd look at Aboubakar as a plan C #9 loan option behind Memphis and Joao Felix. I could see that going okay for 4 months. He's a pretty decent striker, likely better than Cristiano at this stage. On a longer-term deal, no, but for 4 months, I think he'd score some goals and link up okay and be a real threat coming on for Martial after an hour which hopefully keeps the Frenchman healthy. Keeps saying he's better than Salah, so he's a bit of a nutter, and he won't press at all, but if we can't get Memphis or Joao on loan, I'd probably take him over rushing to overpay a #9 in January we aren't sure is the guy.

He's versatile and in good form this season, made an impact in the WC final. Even if he turns out to be average then we should still be able to sell him on in 12-18 months to a mid-table side and probably for a higher fee.
I like Marcus, was a big fan of Lilian and checked him out some when he first started to appear in the top leagues. He is fast for someone his size, works hard. He doesn’t quiet have an elite first touch, but he is perfectly OK.
But he is free to sign with anyone on July 1. He will want to get paid a lot. Sign-on fees etc are rarely reported, but someone like MT will of course easily get 10m. On top of that he will want a high weekly salary. 5 years?
I just fear that we view him as a stop gap option but get stuck with him long term.
Let's start from history. Its BS. Ac Milan has as much history as we do, they are located in a much nicer city and they have far more CL wins then us and they are nowhere near as priced as we are. Yet united are in decline. Sponsorships are leaving, more and more kids see us as yesterday news (a bit like the Facebook version of football) and the infrastructure is crumbling. We are still worth billions but the Glazers valuation is that of a prime United which we are not.
That is why I wonder why they can't spare an extra 30m-40m to improve our chances for CL qualification. If the sale stalls and we don't make it to CL qualification then that could probably cost them 3 times as much
I recently bought a villa in a very prime location. A leaking bathroom was enough to chip 200k off its price (which was already price reduced as the interior was dated). The excuse was that id have to do ample structural work (change of all tiles, electrics, water, change of all bathrooms etc) as it evident that its failing. That was a problem as contractors take age to find and months to do the work, that neighbours there had enough contacts to delay the works even further, that it would take me nearly a year to go into it and meanwhile i would have to move house twice and rent. It was all BS as I had contacts myself who were able to do the works in 2 months with no disruption whatsoever. Ultimately it costed me 140k to renovate it all (most had nothing to do to the bathroom) which I am paying in installments (no interest) and had increased the property value by 400k. The poor sod paid for it himself and made me 460k richer.

We need another world class CM to dominate games, Eriksen is great but he won't give us that final push we need a ball carrier at the top level.
What about Jimenez? We were linked before his injury - and while he hasn’t been the same guy since he may do a job as back up. Certainly the big target man we’re missing. I read he may be available too - as long as Wolves can replace him. Wonder if Lopetegui doesn’t fancy him?

Joshua King is another guy I think would do better and fit better than many think. He is a superb presser and have excellent work ethic. Good team player.
If course it’s not the first option or second option or third option, and so forth, you should look at — but at some point it becomes about just finding someone who can just come in and do a job and not disturb things.

We should go for the likes of Leao, Lautaro Martinez, Vlahovic, etc. I fail to understand why we won't be able to get them. Perhaps we should wait on the new ownership but once we can buy, we should go for these type of strikers. Only then will we be able to run for the nr 1 spot again.

We shouldn’t go anywhere near Lautaro Martinez as he’s fecking awful, Leao is a left sided attacker who’s not as good as what we’ve got already and Vlahovic only signed for Juve about 6 months ago so will cost €100 million+ which we don’t currently have.

We have more problems than some people realise with our CF shortage. We rely heavily on Rashford who is in very good form atm. However, we get very little help from the wings, midfield and even defence when it comes to scoring. Can’t remember the last time a defender came up for a corner and scored, midfield relies on out of form Bruno, Eriksen (not prolific) and Fred (haphazard). Casemiro does pop up with the odd goal but Shaw, Malaccia /Dalot Lindelof and McGuire do very little when playing in terms of goal threat. Not much coming from either Antony or Sancho, when available. So when it comes to goals we are relying almost entirely on Rashford, in great form, and Martial who thinks work rate is not for him, when fit. Worst of all this situation will not be resolved until either new owners appear or we make it to end of season.
If we don’t get at least a back up striker this month it will be fingers crossed that we don’t lose anyone, especially Rashford, to injury or loss of form until the end of season. All EtH’s work will be then be lost and we start again next season.

Yeah, I agree, preferably the first two as they are more “proper strikers” which I think we need. It would be good to get them on six months with the option to extend for a year if they work out OK, even if after the summer they become more a squad option.

£84m and that includes all the ad ons. Not sure how the deal was structured fully but it won’t be up front and will depend on specific criteria being hit.

Why does it always have to be a stop-gap. Can we not just fecking buy a top striker and be done with it. Our last real buy in this position was probably Robin Van Persie over a decade ago.

It's the same situation as always. Any player who might be worth something will also be on substantial wages relative to their role in the team.
Most of the clubs a rung or two below us won't be able to match them so we either have to make some concessions on the fee or continue to pay a proportion of their wages.
Well then I'd rather us not buy a stop gap, because you just know the parasites will try and leave it at that if whoever it is does a decent job up front. We're crying out for the real deal now.
