Yeah that would get him in England team,hopefully under a better manager too but not holding my breath with weak FA

Would be great if we could get a centre forward and a wide forward to give us options/competition up front. We ideally need 2 good players with maybe a youngster competing for each of the 2 spots. There will be so many games to play in a short span of time after the World Cup so we will need a strong squad.

Yeah definitely need both types of player,however can't help feeling it will end up being one or the other which is so frustrating
8 players competing for 3 positions is too many, in my opinion. When you look at our rivals, even they don't have that many. Also, with the recent performances of Garnacho, it will really stunt his growth having to compete with so many players. I think 6 + 1 youngster would suffice as shown below:
City = Haaland, Alvarez, Grealish, Foden, Mahrez, Silva + (Palmer)
Liverpool = Salah, Firmino, Nunez, Diaz, Jota, Oxlade + (Carvalho)
Arsenal = Jesus, Nketiah, Saka, Martinelli, Nelson, Smith-Rowe + (Marquinhos)
With the last players in the lists above being able to play as a winger and midfielder, I think we'd go with something similar:
Martial, New ST, Rashford, Sancho, Antony, Bruno + (Garnacho)
I wouldn't count Bruno as part of the attacking depth. Arguably shouldn't count Martial either but we can see his availability for the rest of the season.
How much is Martinez valued at? Surely not €100mn. Sesko alone would be north of €50mn,
Martinez will be about £70m.
RB Leipzig paid c£20m for Sesko, and a price of around £40m was being spoken of for us last summer, so I think a 100% return on their investment would be good business for Leipzig. Moukoko is free in the Summer, and Gakpo will be around £30m. I expect Toney, Kane and Osimhen would command fees of £80-100m.
Sesko is the real deal, would easily take him over Vlahovic for example. He has the physical side, but also the speed, relentless work, he can finish really well. Definitely a bit of a poor man’s Haaland. Obviously molds his game after Haaland, which of course isn’t odd with the Salzburg connection. He is of course not Haaland II, but I would be very comfortable with him becoming — if not already being — better than Darwin Nunez, for example. Like he is playing at that level right now, watched a lot of Slovenia in the Nations League, they were great and much was thanks to him.
If we can get him, I’d throw every other plan out the window and go for it even if it’s 80-90m.
But honestly, it does seem like we would be punching above our weight class there. Like someone like Bayern, Real, Chelsea or the likes would beat us out.
If so, I wonder if Ivan Tony isn’t a pretty stellar fit for us? It doesn’t seem like there would be much competition for him, does it? And a team like Brentford cannot really strong arm is into paying like 100m (in the summer). Think the fee would be reasonable. If he wants to come here and plays his part, and we offer them like 40-45m and they turn it down, what are they going to do if Tony holds out? Let him sit for the entire season? Those deals get done. The price can get up, but only with multiple bidders. If both Chelsea and us want him, he probably goes for 70m.

I've been thinking we just need someone who stays fit and fits ETH's tactics. I think Antony, Martial and Rashford have the potential to play lovely football. But we need a lethal finisher. Martial tends to take a touch when he doesn't need to, often tries something really difficult when he's got a teammate in a better position and Rashford lacks the subtle finish. The one who shall not be named was that type of clinical striker.
He just lists all attributes you can think of from a complete striker.
Eventually he has to prioritize which attributes are more important to him, as every strikers have those attributes but at different level of degrees. Ronaldo and Halland have all those but on different level for some attributes.
Nah, he leaves out heading because Martial isn't very good at it.
I don't see Ten Hag spending 100M on Osimhen when he knows he still needs a #8, a CB and a RB.
Anyone know of any decent loan options for January? I can't see us doing a permanent deal for someone until the Summer, so I expect this will be the route we take...
He looks top, but hes only just joined RBL after turning down bigger clubs (including us). I know it's different now CR7 is on his way out, but I suspect the lad has good people advising him and he wants to continue improving in the Bundesliga for now
Yeah, I think so too, and this is why I don't think the timing is right for us right now to make a really big splash in the center forward market. We are not an attractive location to go to. We do not have a good reputation on the transfer market.
Go out and get two strikers, say a Depay on loan and some Ighalo type. Spend the big money to fix the holes we got at CM, CB and RB the coming 18 months. Get into the Champions League, become fairly respectable again. Then go get a real top notch striker for 200m or whatever in the summer of 2024.
Or perhaps get Ivan Toney in the summer. Brentford aren't selling him in January though. They would probably be selling their Premier League spot if they did, that is like 100m in itself. But I just think that you must let especially the CM and CB we need cost money. These are key position's in ETH system. If we spend on Toney -- who I really like -- we probably can't afford both a proper CM and a proper CB, which means that in the summer 2024 we will have several big holes to fill and still have a need for a world class striker.
I kinda expect him to sign with Bayern on a free in the summer. Or for a low fee in January if Bayern think that he is a worthy upgrade over Choupo-Moting.
We will soon find out since Moukoko is turning 18 on the November 20.

Whoever the new striker is, he shouldn’t be worried about the minutes because Martia always get injured anyway, so he will get lot of game times and can be developed well under ten Hag, the man who can turn Haller like lewandowski.
How about this Terem Moffi guy? I only know a little about him? He looks a bit raw but looks to have lots of good qualities - he's fast, he can hold up the ball, good passing, scores all sorts of goals - long range, tap ins, headers. Anyone know more about him?

Toney is awesome if the team plays to his strength. He is an excellent player for a specific type of football.
Yeah could give us a Coley like impact and like you say there shouldn't be an English premium on him like it would with Rice/Kane

So what would you do in January
There is absolutely no doubt we need cover for Varane,Dalot & Bruno/Eriksen in summer window,however we also have to get that goal difference going the right way so a forward option is paramount in January
True. ETH really loves Martial, doesn't he? I mean, any progressive manager would love to have this type of striker.
Although I can't see Martial to ever be reliably fit the whole season. RvP managed to overcome his injuries later when he aged, but what's the odd?

We should be able to loan a striker right? Its hard to keep track of players that might be available for loan, but was thinking about someone like Yussuf Poulsen (https://www.transfermarkt.com/yussuf-poulsen/profil/spieler/157635), Joshua King (https://www.transfermarkt.com/joshua-king/profil/spieler/91059), haha Luiz Suarez is still a really good player, don't know if he returned home to Urugay for good or if it was just to ensure that he got playing time before the World Cup.

Or is it due to lack of alternatives? I don't know, if ETH loves Martial and he finally can become healthy, that is huge for us. I just reached some kind of end of the road with him, but sometimes its not before you really given up on a player they finally puts it together, wouldn't be the first time.
If its the right guy at the right place, we definitely don't need to get a world class striker in January. Martial isn't a world class striker even when healthy, to start with. But we need someone who can put in the work. Like I am sure ETH would love to have a Oliver Giroux.
I can't see Brentford selling Toney in January. If they sell him, its perfectly possible that they sell their PL spot.
Schick would be a good option from my POV -- if he could be had cheap. Leverkusen is struggling, he is their highest earner, and he isn't starting every game.
Depay is definitly good enough to be a back-up to Martial for half a year. Gakpo of course has a lot of potential, not super sold on him being available in January, at least at a decent rate.

Depay on loan. He is decent. If Toney is our longterm no 1 target then we should try our chances in January if we have the funds.

Very good shout - suppose he wouldn't be able to play for us against them either, so they probably wouldn't care. I liked him as a player and hoped he would be a success for us.
Totally agree that there's no way we get our long term target, Ronaldo replacement, instant starting XI striker etc call it what you will in January. But, it is evident we will need a competent forward who can contribute some goals if we want a top four finish.
One thing that's certain is we can't just do nothing like we did last January. It'll be another season written off, another season without Champions League football and all the rewards that come with it. Whether it's a loan deal or buy, we need to get someone in.
Martial is a great fit for the way Ten Hag has us playing (high tempo passing on the ground).
So I think even with his injury issues he's firmly ensconced as the #2 striker here, especially since his injury issues aren't as big a deal with Rashford able to play up top and Garnacho and Sancho around at LW and really only Sancho able to get minutes elsewhere as Antony's backup. We just need a quality #9 and then getting Sancho going and we're all set in the front 3 really.
