The Biden Presidency

Any idea how the inaguaration for Biden will work? Will it be a virtual one, or done indoors (similar to Reagan's one in 1985)

Tiny crowd, absolutely tiny compared to the highest ever in 2017.

Merrick Garland for AG. Not bad, if Clarence Thomas decides to drag his ass out one way or another he could still be nominated to Supreme Court which he rightfully deserves.

Doug Jones seemed to be a decent appointment as AG (was a civil rights lawyer in Alabama) and it seemed plausible (centrist Dem, had done something good for the party) but they've gone for Merrick fecking Garland, who has some bad judgements on police and defendants' rights.

I missed it. Is there a tweet yet?

Don’t know, I’m not on Twitter. I use the Caf for my tweet updates! But what I liked most was how he very forcefully talked about the difference in response to BLM protestors and he called the mob yesterday domestic terrorists. He pulled no punches. It was good.

what a weirdly written Tweet. It made no sense until I read the article to figure out that someone else said that, not Mayor Walsh (as his reason for vetoing) as the Tweet seems to imply.
Yeah I'm not sure why it was tweeted like that.

Very odd.

Manchin is fiscally conservative so this doesn’t surprise me at all. He is also quite principled so don’t know what Chuck can do to convince him to change his mind.

PS: just read the entire article. He is not supposed against the idea, just doesn’t think that it should be the first priority (which according to him should be the vaccination). Probably will be okay with it, if Dems send some money to West Virginia in some project. Manchin has always been a ‘West Virginia-first’ senator

He's also the senator of a poor state populated with over a million constituents who could use the money to make ends meet. Therefore I can't imagine he would be against it in the end.

He is quite against the big debt the US and speaks repeatedly against it.
Saying that, I think that he’ll vote Yay on it, probably will just try to get extra stuff.

It is a sign though on how difficult Biden is gonna have. Any Dem senator will be able to ask for stuff in exchange for their vote. Saying that, Schumers seems very good at keeping his caucus United so let’s see.

true, but a majority of those constituents are the Trumpiest of the Trumpers and would see denying the checks, if Biden is trying to get them for them, as owning the libs. That is FAR more important than food or rent.

Stimulus checks are broadly popular for voters of both parties

No doubt they are, but you are underestimating the overriding desire of the Trump base to own the libs, even at the expense of their own wellbeing. I lived in Alabama long enough to see innumerable times the choice of party over wellbeing. Take Mo Brooks for example. He represents Northern Alabama which, with the exception of Huntsville, is about as rural and poor as it gets. He campaigns every 2 years on limited government and fighting "socialism". And he wins. Every. Time. Those people have no healthcare, no hope, and they live in abject poverty. But they will vote for him every time, because to do so is to own the libs (Huntsville/Madison county) who they blame for their problems.

Biden once again reiterating Stimulus relief + C19 response

What’s embarrassing is that the effects of the stimulus checks will be negligible to future generations, limiting them now will feel like clipping a fingernail to them.

The BBC reports:

"In lieu of a traditional inaugural ball, Biden plans to hold a celebrity TV special on the night that he officially becomes president, according to the latest from Politico.

The 90-minute programme is to be hosted by actor Tom Hanks and will feature singers Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake and Jon Bon Jovi.

The primetime event will be shown on all US networks besides Fox (my emphasis) ..."

I suppose if they are going to do something this is better than rich ass people having a fancy ball.

As an exercise, who the hell would headline the Trump version of this? Kid Rock, Those White Supremacists kids, and Lil Wayne?
