The best British Rock band of the noughties

I could give you a proper answer like a normal person but instead I'm going to insult you for having Keane on that list but not Bloc Party. You cnut.

Muse are probably the biggest "breakout" band, well them and Arctic Monkeys....but best is quite clearly Radiohead. It's hardly even debatable from that list.

Yeah. It's hard to argue that Radiohead aren't the most important & influential band of those eligible for the 'vote'. Hell, they even profoundly influenced Muse themselves. And I'm not even a Radiohead fan.

Keane actually have one vote so far :D Elsewhere, not in this thread. I can't get every band in. I went for the ones I thought most people would know.

Cutting a long story short, I'm required to do a survey for some Uni work and because I don't like "making shit up" could you please vote for one of the following.

1. Arctic Monkeys
2. Biffy Clyro
3. Bring Me The Horizon
4. Bullet For My Valentine
5. Coldplay
6.The Courteneers
7. The Darkness
8. Elbow
9. Enter Shikari
10. Franz Ferdinand
11. Iron Maiden
12. Kaiser Chiefs
13. Kasabian
14. Keane
15. The Kooks
16. The Libertines
17. Lostprophets
18. Manic Street Preachers
19. Motorhead
20. Muse
21. Oasis
22. Radiohead
23. Razorlight
24. Snow Patrol
25. Stereophonics

26. You Me At Six

Non of these bands are 'Rock', how can they be considered in the same genre as Iron Maiden?

Perhaps calling it 'best British guitar based group of the noughties' would be somewhere approaching accurate.

All things considered, it has to be Muse.

Pedantic much? A lot of those bands can't be placed in one specific category especially the one you voted. Best way to generalise them is by describing them as 'rock'.

'Guitar based group' would look stupid as a heading in a magazine.

Not really. If I read it in a magazine under that title I wouldn't take the poll at all serious. Bands like Iron Maiden and Motorhead draw a completely different audience to bands like Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks?!?!

I would put all the bands that I highlighted and probably Kasbian in the Indie genre, ES, BFMV, Iron Maiden and Motorhead in the Heavy Metal Genre and the rest in Rock.

You would be better off calling it 'Best British band of the noughties'

Radiohead, obviously, by a mile

Never much liked the Manic Street Preachers but have seen them live a couple of times and they're a band with a bit of talent and authenticity

The Libertines were very promising and wrote about six cracking songs

Oasis at their best were fun to get pissed to

Of the rest, those I've heard are all crap. But you never know with Jonny Borrell whether he might just mature and produce something good one day.

Far too general. By saying just band you're opening up doors for jls, busted, mcfly, take that, boyzone etc etc.
Not one other person has taken issue with the heading. Relax your batty.

That's a terrible list! Most of them are shite, Radiohead doesn't feel like a noughties band, they didn't do anything significant after 2001. Oasis is a 90s band. I'm surprised to see Motorhead in there, but I haven't listened to any of their nougthies stuff.

I'd vote for Radiohead from this list, though. On walkover.

No, you're wrong. Radiohead are fecking shit.

Radiohead have released more albums in the noughties than they did in the 90's.
Oasis have released more albums in the noughties than they did in the 90's
Motorhead have released more than 3 albums in the noughties.

One must do ones homework before one makes statements such as yours.

No, you're wrong. Radiohead are fecking shit.

I'm also one who never gets the Radiohead hype but I accept that they're very popular and highly rated and to be fair Creep may be one of the greatest songs ever made. Creep to them is what Wonderwall is to Oasis, absolutely amazing song that was rinsed out.

I really don't think you should include bands whose breakthrough album wasn't in the 00's. Oasis, Iron Maiden etc shouldn't be included.

Creep isn't in the top 40 greatest Radiohead songs.

To the OP, Radiohead & by too far to measure.

Dare I say that my batty is relaxed!

You say pedantic. I say accuracy. Of course it is your poll but to me it is flawed.

ANYONE who classes Coldplay as Rock is a complete and utter tool.

Anyone who buys coldplays "music" is a tool who does not understand the value of money and should give it to someone responsable to look after.

Don't worry, it's just Kerrang magazine, it's hypothetical readers would not pay such attention to minor detail.

That's why the poll isn't called "best breakthrough British rock band of the 90's". As I said Oasis have more albums in the last decade than they did in the previous.

Yes it is.

Not a Coldplay fan then?

Because only one of those were British and even they only wrote one good song.

Ahhh, obviously didn't read the thread title properly.

I cant agree that The Music only wrote one good song though. Their debut album was jam packed full of belters. Second album had it's moments aswell.

I still maintain that the gig they played in Manchester a couple of years ago to a crowd of about 3/400 was the best I've ever been to

For me, Iron Maiden by far.
How they've come back from their imo mediocre 90's period and how they are still evolving in their music is remarkable. The last album is the perfect example of that.

To be fair to you Leroy.

Kerrang Radio would play all those bands on their standard playlist. I used to have the station on my morning alarm.

Despise coldplay to the point if I saw chris thingy crossing the road I dont think Id brake.

Would probably have to say arctics

Kasabian and Libertines up there aswell, likes of Oasis and Manics best stuff was in the 90's.

Radiohead and the Arctics hands down for me.

People saying Muse over Radiohead is like saying Livepool over Barcelona in terms of footballing style.

Learn to dig the layers boys.
