The Banter Era

Louis van Gaal chanting 'Louis van Gaal's Army' in press conference

We're deep in the banter era and there's plenty of years to come under the Glazers for more of these tales to keep us going!

Phil Jones staying here having been re-signed until so recently has to be up there.

Also, I do sometimes wonder if that's just the real United way? Being a banter club. Like when I started supporting United we had been terrible and Big Ron was in charge. I recall my Dad (Scouse fan) laughing at us regularly. I was young though and don't remember before that really, just strikes me that we had a great run under SAF but outside of that we've always been 'bants' in my lifetime.

United fans booing Van Gaal after winning the cup final was one of our lowest moments. An utter disgrace what happened that day.

Falcao constantly falling over
Di Maria catching the ball thinking it was out of play.
Welbeck scoring against United
Barely having a shot against Cambridge or whoever it was under LVG

I thought we were just taking the piss out of stupid stuff from the last 10 years.

Hiring LVG was one of most moronic moves done in that time. He was useless, ruined the squad and played shite football.
That would be Moyes, Jose and Ole for me, but each to their own!

Scoring 10 penalties in a shoot out
And losing :wenger:
Loads of stuff gets labelled “embarrassing” by drama queens these days, but the League Cup exits on penalties under Moyes in 13/14 (Sunderland) and LvG in 15/16 (Middlesbrough) actually were. Yours was unfortunate and we should have won the game in normal time had we actually gone for it; those two were simply inept.

I honestly think they have an intern who leaks the dumbest transfer rumours imaginable to the local press knowing that United will hear about it, panic and then try to sign them. There were rumours they'd sign Pogba too when he was about to leave.
Not just rumours. It's in the leaked emails.

I don't disagree - it's still a ridiculous situation to find ourselves in though and another example of the bizzaro world we find ourselves in post-saf

Signing Fellaini on deadline day for more than his release clause, and him being the only signing that summer.
The manner in which we signed him was ridiculous but all in all I think he was one of our best signings since Fergie retired. A true Fergie player in my opinion he just came at a bad time.

On topic on the top of my head which done the most damage:

- Mourinho and Moyes
- Signing Solskjaer as permanent manager after he bombed top-4 as caretaker
- Rangnick’s dossier

Almost certain they baited us into signings we know they'd never make - mostly after we'd taken steps forward as well

Them being linked with Pogba was what made me certain they were trolling us. Pep wouldn't let him put out the cones but just as we were discussing his contract in his last year, the rumours start to come out that City were in for him.

Not just rumours. It's in the leaked emails.

The leaked emails said they were actually after those players or that they were just trolling Woodward?

Easily number one

That's the dumbest thing. Listening to grown men like Goldbridge talking about a "Qatari summer". They are acting like f***ing children just because their favourite football team is 3rd and not 1st.

It’s morally bankrupt manchilds that can’t do math.

Our club does not need to be owned by awful state owners. More to the point; having them, will do nothing. We have among the highest revenues on the planet and those numbers won’t go far north. FFP exists. We could have Trillionaire owners and they get to spend the same as far poorer owners who run the club properly.

The Qatar and Greenwood stances from some of our fans has been awful.

Of course they will if Qatar airways sponsors a world record sponsorship fee for us and they pay players under the table.

Someone saying on here that Fellaini was our best signing since Fergie.

I hated the false dawns. Especially the Champions League group stage, beating PSG and hammering Leipzig at home. 2 excellent performances. Only needed one point in our last 2 matches and fluffed it. Told me all about the mentality of the players here.

They'd also have more money to invest in assets that would ultimately generate more revenue, like the stadium and the youth system.

Paying salaries way over the top for players that are not sought after by other clubs

Woodward with his “we can do things in the transfer market other clubs can only dream of” nonsense

Giving a mid table manager a 6 year contract

Chronic lack of a suitable DM or CM

Giving the armband to a player whose has been here less than a season just because of his price tag and nationality

“We aspire to be like Man City”

Maybe Moyes was right about one thing. Unfortunately now, we need to learn from them on how to manage and administer a football club

Not sure why all the moral outrage over middle eastern owners especially when the western countries like the UK and US are equally guilty of whatever “human rights” accusations they throw at other countries and the west are hardly beacons of morality themselves.

I am not that supportive of middle eastern state ownership either but it’s more from the point further spoiling the sport.

Hence, I agree with your later paragraph.

This is meant to be a light hearted thread let’s not turn it into a dull debate about Qatar ownership, there’s another thread for that.

Woodward
Moyes
Fellaini
Pogba
Maguire
Fred & Mctominay
Ole
Falcao, Schweinsteiger
Ralf
Weghorst

Nearly signing a mediocre racist.

Murtough and Arnold spending a week in Turin negotiating with Rabiots mum only to leave in shock at the wage demands.

  1. Hiring Moyes
  2. Buying Fellaini and paying 4M more because Moyes dont want to activate the release clause
  3. Our abysmal treatment of Bastian Schweinsteiger
  4. Buying Di Maria for 69M and not even knowing where to play him
  5. Hiring Darren fecking Fletcher as technical director
  6. Switching to Jose Mourinho from LVG and stupidly hiring Ole. 3 polars of coaching paradigm
  7. Sanchez for free
  8. Buying Mkhitaryan and not knowing his best position
  9. Maguire 80M
  10. AWB 50M
  11. Extending Martial, De Gea, Rashford contract for way too much than their actual abilities
  12. Making Maguire Captain
  13. Buying Ajax rejects Antony. They're laughing all the way to the bank
You forgot to mention about Phil Jones contract.

Do you have some link on that?

I actually believe they were trolling us and have heard the rumours (also Pep calling Maguire fast, so fast while smirking), but if there are emails that confirm that, it would be incredible.
