The bad (typically gun related) things happening in America thread

5 shot and 1 killed on a high school football field in north west Philadelphia

I'm going to Philly next month to watch an Eagles game, the amount of shootings and violent crime there has me a little bit worried. I was thinking I'll just Uber literally everywhere, but then there was one last week where a young guy was shot dead between getting out of a taxi and reaching his front door.

The gun owner should have been held responsible too. If you want to walk around like Rambo then be responsible and secure your weapons.

Completely agree. It was beyond suspicious that the gun owner only just reported his AK-47 "stolen" after the shooting happened. Should have been charged with being an accessory to murder.

Head lice is fine

Are they for fecking real? Glandular fever often floors people for months.

And tonsillitis? My daughter gets it frequently, and often it makes her violently sick and shes had to visit A&E three times in the last.two years with a temperature of over 40° which causes her body to spasm and her breathing to suffer badly.

I suppose dying at school is the safer option?

Darrell Brooks, the arsehole who ran over people at a parade while fleeing the police, is currently on trial.

He's sacked his lawyers and is representing himself, sovereign citizen style, after multiple competency tests.. its been quite incredible

Totally forgot about that cnut. Hope he fails miserably.

He's genuinely the worst person in the world and there is no way he's getting off.

He has been a complete nutter, at times rocking back and forth, sometimes facing away with his shirt off.

He's just responded to the judge asking if he will behave himself going forward with 'I have been' and when pressed 'I cannot answer that for certain'.

He's fecked and rightly so

This idea of the death penalty being imposed because of the parents wishes is nonsense. The camera focusing on the parents as the verdict is read is so ghoulish.

I'd happily send the person who burgled me to the electric chair. Because we live in a society (a civilized one I think), my wishes don't count. Or at least, they shouldn't.

Most of the parents of the victims have explicitly not shared their view on which sentence would satisfy them, so we really don’t know how the majority of them actually feel.

It is. I don't like this aspect of the press honing in on people's suffering.

CNN reported that most of the parents in the courtroom expressed preference for the death penalty (probably my first mistake). I understand it, (and would want worse if my child was killed by him) but it shouldn't matter.

Really? I had heard otherwise. Maybe I heard wrong. I wasn’t watching the proceedings, only listening to it on XM, so I can’t speak to how the cameras were being used.

I’m pragmatic on the death penalty. This event deserved it. Many don’t.

The death penalty is one of the few things I am an absolutist on. It is always wrong, in every case, every time.

Happy it's life. I am against the death penalty and you can't pick and choose which situation to use the chair.
