The bad (typically gun related) things happening in America thread

In the Darrell Brooks case the judge had ruled that his gangster rap video couldn't be played, one still from it was shown and he tried to use that the only image that wasn't prejudicial was unclear to his advantage, opening the door..

The judge then allowed it to be shown. He's there with the car he used. He is pissed.

I bet that judge is looking forward to the day when she jails his sorry arse for 250 years.

His opening statement was to break down into a flood of tears and go into a catatonic state

He then tried to call the state of Wisconsin as a witness, and now he's called some bloke who obviously hates him and is talking about his violence and abuse towards his girlfriend. This is just bizarre.

What’s he looking at sentence-wise?

Watching the highlights of the Darrell Brooks case, make me frustrated just watching him. Really have to give the judge a lot of credit for how she has remained professional throughout. I'm fairly sure I would have just muzzled him

If he hadn't been representing himself and there wasn't the technological solution of moving him and connecting via an app and muting him, yes.

More or less caught up with the Darrell Brooks case now. Honestly I can't decide how much is narcissism and being an abuser and how much is him being stupid.

The speculation is that he didn't know how to call witnesses of his own so is left to call the witnesses the prosecutor cut from their list. Almost all of them hate him and completely blow his defence apart. The prosecutors hadn't cross examined any of them up to yesterday because they did all the work for them. Brooks complained about the lack of cross saying 'the witnesses must have been coached' so the prosecutors started to cross and its been brutal.

Literally the only defence witness who didn't give off the impression she actively hated his guts so far started crying on the stand while being cross examined talking about the injuries to her 4 children.

He called as a witness a woman who he had brutally injured all 4 of her kids!!! One of her kids almost died from the injuries.

Brooks just had his defence ended by the judge because he was being belligerent.

Onto jury instructions and closing argument will be tomorrow.

I'll bet his closing will be a doozy.

If he gets one! Continues like he has today he might be denied one, and rightly so.

He's constantly delaying, arguing, pretending to not hear etc.

The judge must have been reading up on the case law because she's had no time for his shit today.

Calling sheriff's deputy to confirm the little shit can hear the courtroom from the other room.

I'm thinking probably conducting his own defence might have been a mistake. He's talking about double jeopardy

He's got to be trolling now.

Threatened to argue for jury nullification ( - as if they would do that for him!!) and then started spouting off about maritime admiralty law

So......not sure what to make of this. I don't like the framing of this as it almost sounds like "Dude's aren't getting any so they have no choice but to shoot up their schools/neighborhoods". Besides, if there was a correlation between not having sex and shooting up shit wouldn't most shooters be married men? :)
Sex itself is probably not the direct factor here, but rather a proxy variable. Being in a first relationship is something that significantly reduces a person's emotional instability (on average, of course there are many exceptions).

Darrell Brooks case is now finally with the jury in spite of the best efforts of Brooks.

He is honestly one of the most detestable people I've ever seen and hopefully he suffers a fate that befits a cnut like him.

He's going to appeal after his conviction and this case is going to affirm the current duties and power of judges and extend them further.

His closing statement was textbook narcissism. It'll take the jury longer to fill out the paperwork than to find the cnut guilty.

It was ridiculous and if it weren't for the prosecutor basically saying 'we're sure there is nothing he can say that will stop the jury convicting so let him be a prick and we'll just object on the misstated law' he wouldn't have had one.

Best moment was the prosecutor saying 'we all know that in his petulance he will say jury nullification in spite of the ruling in about 3 seconds..'
He took exception to the comment and did it anyway.
