The bad (typically gun related) things happening in America thread

It’s also being reported that it is six AsA women & only one man, but we also haven’t had any official pressers yet so there’s still a bit of subjectivity. Sadly, you’re right, the gender of the victims probably had something to do with this as well.

Yeah, I just saw that and edited before seeing your post. The initial reports stated:

Captain Jay Baker of the Cherokee County sheriff's office told the paper the victims were two Asian women, a white woman, and a white man, while a Hispanic man was wounded.

Whatever the motive, it's just a terribly sad situation.

You nailed it...

So let me see if I can follow this line of thought:

1. His church tells him having sex is a sin.
2. He feels guilty for having sex as he is committing a sin.
3. He feels the need to end his addiction to said sin.
4. So he kills everyone.......

Makes sense. :wenger:

Way ahead of you my friend :)

Yeah I jumped right in so understandably missed yours. We had a similar incident in Toronto recently, although I think the guy stabbed the woman rather than shooting six people. I believe the cops here called it incel terrorism.

Sadly, he will engender a lot of sympathy with this confession.

It's true, racism isn't imported, but the nature of these attacks seems to be inspired by American incel culture.
It's surely a new generation of perpetrators with a different profile, but I'd describe it as a new chapter of an old book. Would be an interesting discussion, but this is not the thread for it.

This little coward was arrested without "incident". If he was arrested with an "incident" I don't think anyone would have been too disappointed. It's a disturbing trend too when you realize what kind of people are always arrested without incident.

All he needed to do was shoot his own penis off.

 Scarlett's use of "always" is not quite accurate but I'd wager the tendency for white folks to be arrested without incident is greater than that of non-whites. This may due to a number of factors not least that most white folks are less intimidated by the justice system as it isn't seen to be systematically biased against them and the likelihood of extremely negative outcomes (i.e. extra-judicial stuff) is reduced accordingly.

of course I could be way off base and incarceration rates probably don't support this hypothesis but if we dig deeper into the arrest experience we might find it to be true, provided we take a broad definition of what "with incident" means.

That'll definitely do it. If he had to wait a few days he might have reconsidered his actions.

He might have? Or he might have been flagged, and stopped? This attitude is really disappointing.

Either or. What I'm saying is access to firearms can be bad in the heat of the moment. At this moment we don't know if a background check would have flagged anything about him. What is well known is that a lot of murders are crimes of passion and having access to the victim or weapons or both at a certain moment can lead to tragedy.

Being able to go and buy a gun and walk out of the store with it same day when you're in a confused state is not good.

Haven’t seen any ‘tots & pears’ utterances by MTG yet (at least not on her official Twitter where such platitudes are typically offered), but apparently she vomited up this today. I guess it qualifies?

Oh, I'm sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying completely. I thought you were being sarcastic.

It's something that his parents apparently called the police and said it might well be their son. If the police hadn't been able to track his car, he could have gone on to kill more people.

Wonder if anti-Asian racism is a theme amongst incels. Elliot Rodger was explicitly racist agains Asians too.

Per the mayor of Atlanta & police officials, Long apparently said he was headed to Florida to continue the spree. The cops did have good screen grabs of the car from at least one murder location & they apparently were aware of where he was headed a couple of hours after the murders. I-75 has a couple of corridors with decent saturation of traffic cameras which also aided law enforcement. But, no doubt, the apparent actions by his parents did contribute to an confident ID being established so quickly by LE. It’s also an apparent heartening aspect to this tragedy, that the right thing was done by them.

This cult is so fecking mad. No matter if the details turn out that way or another.
Someone nailed it earlier - there’s such a fetishization regarding guns in this country. Anti-government stances coupled with the idiotic ‘second amendment is a god given right’ view, coupled with general neck behavior, has conspired to create this delusional confluence that only slowed down in recent months due to Covid, but has made an unfortunate resurgence this year.
