The 'Arsene Wenger Tried to Sign' Thread

Can't believe he keeps that up even in retirement. Legend.

I wonder how many players Wenger nearly signed who turned out to be shite?

Let's hire someone to stay next to him all day long to hear, who he would buy, just to buy his "almost signings"

Would be the best XI of all time

I want to hear a full length interview of Wenger talking about all the players he's tried to sign in his time in management. Name's, reason and why it didn't happen please. I'd read that book.

95% of them would be money or work-permit related. Some just rejected us like Zlatan.

" They were also close to signing Virgil van Dijk when he moved from Celtic to Southampton"

So, we are supposed to believe that Southampton had simply too much pulling power for poor Arsenal to compete with?

We were super tight with money and known to be super indecisive, we have history of messing clubs and players about. I don't know if we were close to signing him but we were linked to him very heavily when he was at Celtic.

Wenger for DOF! He's clearly amazing at identifying talent, Arsenal just too stingy to break the bank.
Exactly. Give him Peps checkbook and he'll make another invincibles team. I mean, he already made one without unlimited funds.

What's Wenger's greatest almost-signed XI now?

You can’t really fault him that much, he’s picked up a few and turned them into stars. Arsenal board should be ashamed for not backing their long term manager

Should Petr Cech be in this thread ? Wenger did, in fact, sign him in 2015.
