Surely most Arsenal fans aren't hoodwinked by the players Arsenal bid for that they know they have no chance of signing, Suarez, now Mbappe.

Arsenal fans bitching about the Etoo offside is one of the ridiculous things ever, Barca got robbed of a legit goal and the freekick that led to Arsenal's goal came from a dive. 2006 had the rightful winner.

Oh God. He's a clever bloke, he must know and just not give a shit. In his defence he's been at it a long time and sports interviewing isn't known for its originality so all players and managers are bound to repeat themselves answering the same old shit.

Still, Wenger's catchphrases are beyond parody at this point.
 
These players must be thanking their lucky stars that they didnt sign for Wenger; how many talented youngsters were at Arsenal only for them to never develop because Wenger doesnt coach them.

Sounds like he did almost have him. Everyone likes to laugh at he's 'almost signed xyz players'.
But the players always say that there was contact and interest and plenty of talks.
If he had bet 100m as initial bet and worked his way up back in june, before city bought Silva and all the players Monaco let go in summer, I bet he'd be here.
This is the problem with Wenger, he gets the player interested then screws around too much dealing with their parent club looking for that bargain price, at which point the selling club refuse to sell anymore or someone else comes in with double/triple offer and get the player. Then he has the audacity to say, 'we almost signed him'. Twat.

Yes. I even visited the training ground of Hearts of Midlothian. I found it great in Edinburgh, apart from the salary. I was ready to cut my salary by half… At the beginning, it was very poor financially. Honestly. Like €4k a week.
 
There are at least 3 clubs who said that Cristiano Ronaldo had nearly signed with them, 2 of which are from the Serie A (Juventus and Parma). Its funny considering that Italian critics laughed at this silly spendthrift club for spending 12m on some 18 year old thin winger with plenty of technique but no brains who would take the dribble himself right to the corner flag. Those same critics would later on criticise the Serie A guns for going for safe bets instead of this great talent who always seemed to be a dead cert to greatness.
 
Yeah, that summer he signed Sanogo instead and some random german player from La Liga.
It's all fun to criticize Wenger's ways but even in hindsight i think signing Özil was a better move than a not yet ready Griezmann.
The failure to build a strong team around him is another problem.
 
Wenger almost signed Mkhitaryan in 2016.

Mkhitaryan was one of the most highly-regarded midfielders in Europe; the man voted player of the year in Germany last season on the back of 23 goals and 20 assists in 51 games for Dortmund.
