The Arsenal game (September 4th)

I Will be all over BTTS & over 2,5 goals in that game :devil:
 
I'm actually worried about Jesus, Brish MEDIA going on about Martínez can't deal with 8 foot strikers but I'll bet its Lil Jesus who catches him out.

Arsenal will surely beat Villa and come into the game brimming with confidence. My hope is that EXH (x for 10) will have been studying Arsenal's play and develop suitable tactics to take them down.
 
I will not be able to take the media and fan hyperbole if Arsenal play well in this game.

Stop Odegaard getting the ball and mark Jesus tightly, don't allow him to drop into the hole uncontested.

Apart from that it'll be 1v1 battles with Malacia v Saka and Dalot v Martinelli

Lets hope we smash Leicester then and have the same mentality. Who knows which United will turn up though. Although I reckon shaw/maguire might be starting vs them as surely ETH will rest malacia and martinez/varane for arse game.

I'm presume casemiro will start vs arsenal too so that's a big plus for us. He will offer that protection for martinez and varane.

Good points, is Zinchenko going to be Ok? - I assume he will get a rest tonight if he is to play on Sunday.

Its great so far though. The fixture list has been relatively kind to us in August, and I hope we can win the title. Manc City are very good, but seem to be leaking goals and I'm sure they will focus on the CL this season. Pep wants to win that before he finishes. Liverpool seem to have over-played their players and selling Mane was odd (probably would have been better selling Salah). Chelsea are undergoing a transition and Manchester United appear to be in a permanent transition, but I like their new manager and they have spent loads in the last two weeks. I honestly think Arsenal playing really well could finish second or maybe even first. United have one problem compared to Arsenal (or indeed Chelsea): I don't think they can bring themselves to buy players from Manchester City - did they even try for Jesus as they need a striker? Or maybe City just wont consider selling to their neighbours, I don't know. But Tevez played for both and so did Denis Law, so it has happened in the past.

P.S. As regards Sunday, lets make sure we beat Aston Villa first though as there have been some odd results already this season Chelsea vs Southampton last night for example haha.

I initially thought the season would end: City/Arsenal/Chesea/Man Utd. (Spurs will struggle if Kane has an injury, Son seems right off it) but now I'm thinking: Arsenal/City/United/Chelsea.

The thought of Arsenal being good again really, really bothers me. I think it bothers me more than Liverpool being good again, which I’ll put down to my age and having grown up throughout the Wenger-Ferguson years.

Let’s bring them down to size.

Arsenal winning the league is slightly preferable to another City or Pool win.

My god their fans would be annoying though.
 
I'd love a win with a dodgy goal in Fergie time.

Really want us to win this. They've been a bit lucky in their last two and I think we can get at them. Hopefully Antony will be available and add another dimension to our attack
 
Will be a good game. Arsenal have so much zip about them currently in final third and think they can test you in ways Liverpool couldn't so good challenge for your new backline, Saka v Malacia will be a cracking battle.

Odegaard limped off in last 10 minutes so he's probably a big doubt which will be a blow for them.
 
Why are we talking about the Arsenal game before the Leicester game?

We could be back to square one after the game tomorrow. We need to start taking it one game as it comes.
 
Let's hopefully play well and beat Leicester 1st.

Do that and we'll go into the Arsenal game with lots of confidence too.

I hope Zinchenko plays. He and Arsenal will be in for a bit of an awakening at some point this season. To me, he lacks the athleticism to play full back for teams where they actually have to compete. I’d rather Antony make his debut against Zinchenko than James Justin, who I think he’s far more likely to struggle against.

Arse has a hell of a team and it is likely they win because they are playing great ball right now and we are still building our identity.

Also it's not Jesus who concerns me most. Martinez will handle him just fine and is actually one of the best CF matchups to take him on in the box. The problem will be Martinelli vs Dalot, that is the matchup that favors them most. When they have possession their left side and how well Dalot can handle it will be a big determiner of who wins this game. Odegaard is a beast too but I think he will be largely slowed by Case, so this game hinges on that left side when Arse has the ball. Huge game for Dalot and Varane and for us to win that right side requires defensive wins like we had from Malacia vs Liverpool.

I actually expect us to keep it tight for much of the game but it's unlikely we pull it out they just have too much firepower and are playing so well. I just hope it is close and competitive.

I'm with you on that 100%. I'm more an Arsenal hater more than anything else. They're probably already talking about the Invincibles II. I couldn't bear losing to that lot on Sunday.

Arsenal fans are only a tiny bit less annoying than Liverpool fans, but that’s outweighed by the fact that I know way more arsenal fans. Genuinely can’t stand the thought of them becoming good again.
 
Will be a tough one for sure, Arsenal have been irrelevant for a while but right now they're a towering behemoth of footballing brilliance.

I just hope we can match them for the first 30 minutes and our players don't become too disheartened when we're forced to give Lego Pep a standing ovation at half time.
 
I know it's a bit early in the season to be considering fatigue, but it's unfortunate they get an extra days rest. 3 day vs 4 day gap seems to be a big difference to managers which is why so many of them moan about fixture scheduling.

We really don't know what sort of form and momentum we'll be carrying into the Arsenal match until we see the Leicester game tomorrow. I have to say I thought the performance vs Southampton was poor, we won't get away with that level of performance very often. Hopefully we put in a performance against Leicester and the crowd are up for it against Arsenal. When the players play with intensity and the crowd respond with an electric atmosphere it makes such a difference as we seen vs Liverpool.

They’re both the same type of fans that’s why. Both haven’t won much in past 20 years, starved for trophies type mentality where they overhype anything and everything they do

Maybe you just see it with a few people who stick out on social media.

I’ve spoken with hundreds of other Arsenal supporters over the last couple weeks between real life and another forum and, while many will joke about it, maybe 3-4 seriously think we are likely to win the league this year.

Twitter and people being interviewed on YouTube TV channels isnt a representative slice of the fan base.
 
yeah this is definitely one of those ones whereby if we lose I'm just going to block everything related to football out for at least a week

Well, if it hadn't been for some daft play by Newcastle last night ("Joelinton.... run it into the corner for fecks sake" I was shouting) and some rather odd time keeping, Liverpool would have been 9 points behind us. They look pretty shot after all those games last year, lost to you and almost drew with Newcastle missing their best 2 players. Spurs are spurs. Chelsea look lightweight and Man United are transitioning.

I know its delusional to think we can win the league, we'd need to make it our top priority play the kids in the cups including the Europa Cup and hope Man City decide to focus on the Champions League - neither of which is going to happen, but looking at the table today, I have to have a sliver of hope, I mean if Leicester can do it......!
 
Huge test for the defence because Arsenal's attack is fast as feck with the Martinelli Jesus Saka front line.

We will be way off, likely 20+ points off winning the league, and Liverpool will finish 2nd, I am certain of that. But I think we can put up a good fight to be the best of the rest. Spurs won't go away, they are strong and resilient and have a chance all the time Kane is fit. Chelsea is a strange one, I can't work them out yet.

Early signs are positive, even with a 'kind' fixture list. I know we are not liked much here so won't get the respect we deserve for our start - which is fine, but I saw someone comment we were 'lucky' to beat Villa, when in the real world Villa were lucky it wasn't 8. I read our Xg was higher than City, and they won 6-0.

If you look at our start; Palace away is tough for anyone, Leicester will improve and gain form (hopefully starting tonight). Fulham are no mugs either, wait until you play them they really surprised me, ask Liverpool, Brentford and Brighton.

Could come crashing down, and we will definitely suffer at some point, we will see.

Well I suppose that is a fair assessment. But we are doing better than last season's start!

I agree with your quick reviews of some of the other rivals especially Chelsea. It looks like they have got Aubemeyang before the deadline and that could be a blessing or a curse.

The fact we played the first game in the previous matchday to then go on to play last is truly peak PL scheduling stupidity
 
Hope to have another clean sheet playing counter attack for now until the players are able to play full ETH ball. It will be tight 1-0 or 2-0 win for us.
 
Hope we stop their winning streak like we stopped their 49 match unbeatable run. I still remember how loud some of my Arsenal mates at that time, time to shut them up now as well

Make it sweeter if it's a dodgy pen decision too.

This is because so many people can only imagine a future that is like the past they are accustomed to. It is why you see predictions that look exactly like the previous year's finishes by so many in the media.

Arsenal fans are sitting on a fantastic team this year. Pisses me off tbh because they're about to become much worse as they realize what they have.

Also and btw you see the same effect with the moaners here. They expect last year. They are waiting for the other shoe to drop like it has been doing. But the core of the team is changing and there is a good manager leading the club now so they are about to be very surprised as United starts making real progress back.
