The 2010 Baseball Thread

what the hell happened in this thread?

We have a great World Series to look forward to, neither of these teams were he picks of the pundits or the punters...so both of them getting here is an upset of sorts.

Both will be very very hungry, Texas having never won, and the Giants, well let's just say the world is a different place since they won it last.

Being an A's fan, I can unequivocally state that I would be deeply, deeply saddened*if this World Series between our divisional and cross-Bay rivals were to end in a cataclysmic meteor strike.

*and by "saddened", I mean "overjoyed"

Be careful what you ask for, don't forget the 89 Series.

Not sure what I would do if the Giants win the series. Hate the feckers. Can't stand them or any of those shitty bay area teams. Worst of all this town I live in loves the Giants, 49ers and Sharks. They show every fecking 49er game even though they are absolute shit. <sigh>

Are we all very excited? I see there are reports on ESPN about Cliff Lee and his wife getting abuse from Yankee fans(spat on, beer thrown on her, and obviously verbals), but they both very much shrugged it off.

Possibly not trying to piss off the hometown fans next season? He is 33, all the reports say, he is likely to be offered a $100mil contract by the Yankees, I can't see him saying no. Plus he and his wife keep talking about Sabathia and how close they all are...

Wait. You don't want the home city to show the home team's games on TV?

They don't believe in taking the easy way out.

One down. Important to win game one now the Giants need to win game two at home and go to Texas up two.

Yep. Tomorrow is big but I have faith in Cain.

Just wish we could hit that tough AL pitching.

I'm certainly impressed with the Giants two out hitting ability.

I'm severely disappointed that the Rangers relievers can't throw strikes and get outs.

Will be interesting to see how the change in parks affects either pitching staff and the hitters. Balls hit to right field in Texas tend to carry but they will often die in left - totally opposite in SF it seems.

Remember 2002 Giants fans... up 3-2... and blowing Game 6 with eight outs left and a 5-0 lead and coming up well short in Game 7. It's their series to lose now. ;) Think I'll buy a rally monkey this weekend.

I wish the Giants could hit that amazing AL pitching or our overrated pitchers could shut down that awesome AL hitting.

Just not to be though.

Admitted troll, there you go.

What happened to that gloating about ignoring a poster? Suddenly the Giants are winning and now you can see my posts.

You must be like 12 or 13.

BTW, please point out in this thread where I ever said "NL pitching is overrated." I'll be waiting an eternity as it ain't there.

Two devastating losses for Texas first their ace gets bounced around, then their bull pen can't get anybody out.

Bochy out managing Washington big time.

Enjoying the ride. Half way home but not there yet, just take it one game at a time.

Would take one of three in Texas but I like the pitching match up on Saturday, Sanchez against Lewis.

I think we'll just take one of three, then close it out in game 6. Now the Rangers can hit their home runs in their little park. But, who knows? They look seriously outclassed.

And Washington is a complete moron.

well how many predicted before the series started that game 1 would be a run fest, and game 2 the complete opposite?

Lot of momentum with the Giants at the moment...

Bumgarner pitched a masterpiece tonight. He had great defense behind him and pitching and defense wins championships. Three down one to go. Love to see Lincecum wrap it up tomorrow. But would settle for a win back in San Francisco.

That was a great performance from him and one bad pitch from Hunter was the difference for the most part. I'd pick him as the series MVP based on all factors (age, only start, 3-1 lead or 2-2 series) unless Cain has to pitch Game 6 and does great. I do think Lee will pitch great in Game 5 so I expect a 3-2 type score. As a historian and romanticist of sport, I actually prefer clubs to win on their home soil for the fans sake. Of course, I would prefer the Rangers to prolong the drought. :D

It's been a long wait for Giants fans and if they can win one of the next three it was truly earned. It's going to be interesting to see if they can keep even two of this quartet beyond 2013.

As for the tool above my post, odd that he/she only shows up after the Giants win but didn't post his childish rhetoric after Game 3. But he/she is a juvenile so I'll just have to look the other way. ;)

Congrats to the Giants.

Proved that top class pitching normally overcomes hitting.

Never saw it coming, then I read Stark's column today. Texas has been a .500 club since June. While the Giants won the division that is dominated by pitching.

Amazing performance. Bochy is a damn good game manager while Washington looks well out of his element in this series. He should have walked Renteria to bring up the powerless Rowand. Game defining moment.

Renteria for MVP.

The Giant's pitching throughout the post season has been outstanding and I figured their pitching would give them a shot if they made the play-offs. Bochy has to be commended as well, great managing throughout the playoffs.

This has been a long time coming. I have been Giant fan since the mid 60's, almost as long as I have been a United fan. The Giants were the last team in any sport that I support to win it all. It sure feels great.

Ah fair enough. I actually rooted for the Dodgers in 88

Yeah, this is like Shitty winning the Premier League for me.

Well, I'll be a man about it and say this:

Congratulations to the San Francisco Giants. After 53 years in San Francisco, you have won the 5th World Series Championship a Bay Area baseball team has won, taking just a mite longer than the five years it took the A's to win the '72 World Series after moving to Oakland. I'm glad you were finally able to bounce back from that utter bollocking you guys got in 1989 series.

Gotta love the MLB, sure big money wins, but teams that produce their own talent, make some smart pick ups via free agency, and play together also have a real chance...

Of the top ten payrolls in baseball, only three of them (Yankees, Philles, Giants) made the postseason. The rest were #11 Minnesota, #15 Atlanta, #19 Cincinnati, #21 Tampa Bay, and #27 Texas.
