There have always been idiots of course. And indeed there is a lot to be said for the argument that many posters who appear retards at first aclimatise in time. I think if the Mods cast too wide a net re: new users they will end up catching posters with genuinely good potential. That's why I think they are right to promote/ban etc. on an individual basis rather than do what Weaste suggests and delete people if they post less than five times in their first week etc.
That said, Weaste makes a fair point about the newbies getting comfortable in their own idiocy. If you go in there it is a cesspit of feckwittery. Perhaps the Mods could be a bit more strict with quality in there to get the posters up to the standard required, and then ease up a bit on the MUFC forum etc.
We can talk about the idiots but ultimately the quality of the board has always derived from having a core of regular, well known posters who 'know' each other (in e-terms). The problem comes when these posters sense the place is being infested by idiots, and they start posting less. That leads other posters to notice a lack of regular faces and it's a downward slope from there. The Mods have created this problem for themselves in a sense by being as twattish as they were re: banning/ghosting a lot of the old 'core' for calling the Scousers nasty names and the whole R-R escapade.
Those 'core' of members will grow naturally but they have to be allowed to. The main thing the Mods can do is to keep the number of new members coming through to a minimum. Hopefully, if the standard is raised in the Newbie forum as suggested, this wont chase away the better posters.
