Tennis Thread 2014

i would say a stormer, but Djokovic has lost it slightly this set

I can't even say djokovic played badly. At times, yes, but generally he played a good game. But nishikori just blew him away.

Combination of heat and exhaustion from the Murray match.

Plus Nikishori played a great match.

never thought Nishikori would be the one that will look fresh. Djokovic just continuing with his "poor" form after Wimbledon (or wedding) ... actually, he's been crap on hard courts for some time now. i'm too lazy to google it, but I don't think he won any US open or any of those masters in N. America that come right after Wimbledon ever since that amazing 2011 season.

Didn't see the match......just what. the. feck.

Some of the beebs pics, Djoko does like half dead like the 2007-09 version of himself could get, but thought that had gone, maybe 4 years of relentlessness has caught up with him, and playing through that wrist injury. Don't want to write off Nishikori's efforts though, taking out Wawrinka and Djoko not to be snuffed at. And Roanic too.

While rankings wouldn't agree, nor who he beat to get there, arguably as big as an upset as Federers second round exit or Soderling over Nadal at the French.

Federer not only has a great chance of eighteen, but getting back to number one as well. He's doing it the Giggs way, when everyone is down after a long season, he steps his game up and makes them look like sissies.

Amazing by Nishikori. I really like his tennis... remind of the nineties.

Anyway, i think, whoever play him at the final, is the big favourite.

Yes he's had an extremely good season but he's also gotten rather lucky with his Wimbledon and USO draws tbh. Federer is probably going to win this title now and his run kind of reminds me of Agassi at Australia in 03. He was also the number 2 and he faced Coria, Grosjean, some South African and Schuttler to win the title. Federer would have faced Granollers, Monfils, Cilic and Kei to take his title with Kei the highest ranked at #11.

It's really frustrating being a Nadal fan this season with the Aussie Open final injury and then a good clay season followed by the wrist injury just before the USO. Nadal's been amazing on hard court slams for a while now and with Djoko off form, he'd have had a great chance. What could have been a season to close to within 1 or 2 slams behind Fed will end up being one where the gap stays where it started this year

Anyway congrats to Kei! Played a great game and hopefully he wins the title. Djoko needs to do something about his game because he's had a very average year this time.

Can't believe Djokovic lost. Could have a shock slam winner on the cards as Fed could quite easily lose to Cilic or Nishikori at his age. I think its been a disappointing tennis season overall...

I don't see what's disappointing about an upset. Nishikori was absolutely brilliant. And the game was a good one too.

Cilic wins the first set. Just can't see him winning two more sets though. Just like Monfils, I think he'll feel the pressure at big moments and Fed will use his experience and close it out eventually.

Always nice to see new faces in slam finals, but Cilic v Nishikori is going to be a pretty underwhelming final.

Cilic vs Nishirkori might not have the big names but it would be great to finally see none of the Top 4 in a final.

Cilic breaks at the start of the second.

Cilic to serve for the second. If Cilic can serve this set out, we're reaching Monfils territory.

Gwen Stefani still looking stunning there in the crowd.

Only a Cilic meltdown can halt this now. Federer cannot return shit.

Absolutely despise crowds like this. 2 hours back they were cheering Kei on as the underdog. Suddenly they're cheering Cilic's faults? Pathetic stuff

Federer breaks to start the 3rd set. This is going to go the way of the Monfils match.
