Incredible by Rafa. Still think it was more Medvedev losing it than Rafa winning it but that hardly matters now.

Yeah but you can only beat what's in front of you - there are plenty of matches where the big 3 have won by hanging in there and effectively intimidating their opponents into falling apart

He’s so immense. He could be losing two sets 6-0, 6-0 and be down 5-0 with three match points against him, and I would never rule him out. My god, what a lad.

And Medvedev will have at least 5-6 slams to his name when he retires. Great player.

Without a doubt imo. The 5th set was the only set where I had the feeling Rafa was dominant and all over Medvedev. For the rest of the match Medvedev needs to have a look at himself too. The decision making and shot selection in the 4th set were baffling.

He was gassed in the 4th hence those shots and decisions. Despite losing the second set, Rafa took a lot out of him. This was Medvedev's longest match easily and it showed.

What a win for Rafa, so well deserved!

I’m going to find it easy to support Medvedev. He’s a bit of a loon but I think he’s got a great heart.

Jesus, I didn't realise Nadal now has the most number of grand slams. I never thought anyone would beat Federer but it's seem certain now that he will be number 3 on that list and Djokovic will undoubtedly win a few more grand slams.

How would you rank Nadal, Fed and Djokovic?

Possible of course, but I think he struggled more mentally in set 3 and 4. In the 5th set his serve and decision making actually improved, but he didn't have the power and energy in most rallies anymore. In set 3 and 4 I still had the feeling he had control over the rallies but instead of finishing easy points he made baffling decisions and gifted away points and the momentum many times.

At the end of the day it seems like even Medvedev is still not ready to hang in with Rafa and Nole mentally and physically over 5 sets. Will be interesting how the rest of the season goes and I hope Nole stops beeing an idiot and gets his shot so we can see their rivalry continue.

Unbelievable from Nadal imo he has always been the greatest what a warrior he is.

Unlucky Medvedev, I like him I've no doubt he'll win a few slams.

Fecking buzzing. Had to leave after the 4th set to drive to a meeting and just seen Rafa did it!!! Couldn't listen on the radio as I was a bag of nerves. Ahh so happy right now, will watch the 5th set when home!!!

Don't get why Medvedev is so widely disliked. He's a bit of a cock, but he seems like a funny and smart guy.

I don't agree that he had control over the rallies in 4th at all. Rafa actually kept him in too many games with unforced errors. His post game comments here pretty much confirmed that he was physically too tired to keep up with Rafa in 4th and 5th.

Sure but all of that goes without saying, really. This isn’t some tedious Big 3 argument, just a simple statement that Medvedev had him at 2-0 and instead of putting his foot on his throat he started making poor choices (drop shots and the off pace, particularly) and, more importantly, he banked on being able to run Nadal’s legs off. Instead he walked himself back into a match against maybe the best competitor of all time. Naive at best.

Nadal really echoes that he's been struggling mentally and physically over the last year or so.

Seems to have been really bad, the way he insinuates and thanks his team regarding it.

Amazing he's got to where he is a gain. A warrior at heart.

He likes a whinge but also a blunt guy with a sense of humour, actually quite reminiscent of teenage Novaxx minus the faking injuries antics.

Should end up with a few more Slams, has to work on this net game though.

Yeah that interview was really funny. Especially the end when he made it sound like he was about to thank the crowd then just thanked his team again .

Me either really, but Tennis fans are beyond fickle. But he's a genuine challenge to an ageing big 3(2) and they don't like it basically. He's basically the first player other than them to go into the Slams as the clear man to beat - and at the US/Aus, that is now the case.

Well it is very, very easy to understand why! He fights with the umpires, bad idea. He gesticulates and bitches about the fans, also a really bad idea. When he was clapped he shaked his head and miffed opp a few comments, he is just childish. He must understand the fact that he will never, ever reach the level of Rafa and Federer, the fans will never like him as much as those two. Saying that, his interview was very nice and funny, he said exactly the right things.
