Tennis 2019

Can't wait for the French Open, although I would like to have a new winner to be honest, preferably one of the new kids on the block like Thiem.

I have no idea what to make of that match or what it means for Roland Garros. It was so weird.

Really hoping these two make the final there though.

I'm having Nadal as favorite for Roland Garros after today. The second set was a weird one, but I don't think Nadal should be too concerned as he had the opportunities to win it in straight sets. The two sets he did win were a lot more comfortable than I would have expected.

I thought Nadal would win, partially due to Djokovic's two tough matches previously but the first and third set is making me make Nadal the slight favorite ahead of Djokovic. The draw might make me change my mind as there are plenty of tricky players in the field.

This week would be a huge confidence boost for Rafa. Even if he'd lost today, his level the entire week was a lot higher than anything he's played at MC, Madrid or Barcelona. To be winning sets at 0 and 1 all week and to hand Djoko those is remarkable. Rome also plays the most similar to RG so this is a much needed boost to an otherwise poor clay season for Rafa.

Murray might be back to play doubles at Wimbledon this year.

Good to hear he no longer has any pain.

French open draw today.

@saivet told you that Thiems draw is undecided. He could be in Nadal or Djokovics side. Nadal would easily have Federer on his side than Thiem.

The side he falls on would always be 50/50

Him being 4th seed just means earliest Nadal/Djokovic can face Thiem is in the SFs.

A 5th seed like Zverev can face one of the top two seeds as early as the QFs

Maybe Zverev isn't the best example for this, I would be extremely surprised if he made it to the quarter finals.

Yeah I don't think he will do well but he's the 5th seed and as far as the draw is concerned, seeds 5-8 will be forecasted to draw seeds 1-4 in the QFs

I think Federer got the toughest draw out of the top players.

Thiem's draw could tricky too. He has a 0-4 record against Verdasco so I'm sure he'll be hoping to avoid him.

Thiem has the toughest draw for me out of the top four. Cuevas is a clay court specialist so will be tricky and Thiem leads the head to head 3-2 and they been pretty close games.

Federers draw gets tricky after round 4.

Nadal is the happiest. He avoids Fognini, Thiem and Schwartzman who came close last year. Not forgetting Del Potro. I think he should be able to handle Federer and Tsitsipas in Paris.

Zverev looks like he's gonna cry about (possibly) wrong call. Pleading with the ref, praying, just looking like a dick.

Get over it!

Kyrgios pulls out due to “illness”. What a waster. Apparently the bug wiped him out, hopefully it reset him too.

just realized Janowicz will turn 29 in couple of months, how the time flies. hasn't played since 2017. and apparently should return in july or soon after that. complete waste of career.

Nadal's draw looks the kindest. Simon Briggs on the Tennis Podcast yesterday made a decent point, that there are a lot of players in the second group who might knock the stuffing out of the likes of Djokovic or Nadal, even if they don't beat them. With all of that said, I have a sneaking suspicion for Djokovic this year.

Nice to see Roger back. Currently 2 sets to love up.

Medvedev out. But Shapovalov got knocked out in straight sets.

Thiem got pushed to four sets in a close game, which isn’t really great for him. You don’t wanna be taken to four or five sets in the first week too many times.

I watched the third set tie break and Thiem was down 0-4 before turning it around. Not taking the result too seriously though unless he gets dragged into another battle in the next few rounds.

Zverev doing his usual here, albeit Millman is no mug. He’ll somehow manage to have been on court for 431 hours more than his fourth round opponent and then wonder why he hasn’t gotten through.

Tsitsipas in a bit of a battle at the moment.

Nadal strolling through. I expect Djokovic to do the same thing. These younger players need to start doing the same. Going four or five sets vs qualifiers isn’t going to help you in the second week.

I saw the second half of Federer's match and he looked positively lazy and pedestrian. I guess some good serving and groundstrokes to save break points, and he turned it up twice - when he needed to break, once in each set - that was it.
Other than the bursts around making or saving break points- few winners, lots of errors, minimal effort. Either he's conserving energy or he won't go too far.

I didn't watch it but I wouldn't read much into it. This guy was never going to trouble him and I'd expect the same in R3 where he has another fairly unknown player.

Assuming Schwartzman makes it to R4, that will be a more meaningful indication of how he's playing.

Nah Ruud could trouble Federer. Not saying he’s going to win but Ruuds the type of player who covers the court well and if Federer is pedestrian than that could spell trouble.

Maybe, don't know much about Rudd other than he was the guy who Kyrgios had that meltdown against.

Aye. It's normal Fed to conserve energy at this stage of his career. Sampras was doing basically the same in his last 5 years. He should be able to go through Ruud with ease as well and considering Schwartzman could also be on his way out his first real test might be against Wawrinka or Tsitsipas.

Thiem loses the second set.

Just shows how amazing the big four were at swatting away guys in the earlier rounds.

Schwartzman out is good news for Federer.

I think Federer has a nice draw to the QFs and Nadal and Djokovic have a nice draw until the SFs.

Thiem on the other hand has Cuevas in R3 and then potentially:

R4: Verdasco
QF: Del Potro
SF: Djokovic

Crowd are cheering Klizan's errors vs Pouille

He made a double fault and the crowd started cheering. Pretty poor really and it's pissed Klizan off

Rafa won in 4 vs Goffin. He's got to stop this habit of dropping his intensity in the 3rd sets of games.

Is there a top 10 player whose serve is as inconsistent as Zverev? Just goes for big serves/aces without any thought for proper, strategic placement. 18 aces and 14 double faults today. First round also he had similar numbers.
