Stephens is done. Was there for the taking for her, but it’s a fight now and that’s right up Haleps alley.

That split cam thing is weird.

I quite like it, tbf. Can be a bit gonzo-esque, but give a good sense of the movement.
It did it about 20 seconds after I'd turned over and not seen it on tennis before. My eyes kept veering up and down, misskling everything.

Marion Bartoli's commentary is among the most unprofessional i have ever heard, she giving Martin Keown a run for his money..

She was a set and 2 games up... like HOW do you loose from there?!?! I can' believe what I'm watching.

Halep's certainly a battler.

Embarrassing performance from Sloane. She just gave up. Does not have the heart of a champions. It doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ve seen her train on court and at the gym and she is the laziest professional athlete I’ve ever seen.

Berbatov would like a word on that.

No idea if it means anything, but one of the stories told on the Tennis Podcast was how, when she's finished practising, Sloane Stephens walks off court and leaves her bag behind for others to clean up and remove from court. The suggestion seemed to be that no other top players do that.

I got the sense that they were still in doubt as to her attitude.

But of a myth that. I’ve watched Sloane at the gym and you wouldn’t believe she’s a pro. Her attitude was so lazy, so cocky, and her conditioning was awful.
Poor attempt at humor from my part :). I honestly don’t really know Stephen that well, so I’ll take your word for it. What @Brophs is saying about leaving her back sure sounds lazy and arrogant though.

Halep was a set and 3-0 up in the final last year, it happens.
Indeed, and Halep was also up 3-1 in the 3rd set.

I thought that Halep earned it today. She had to dig deep and deeper in the first set and half to stay in it. Midway through the 2nd set, you could sense that Stephens couldn't go toe to toe with her. Halep's sheer determination, big heart and desire won her the match; she was chasing balls even when she had a 5-0 lead in the 3rd set. I can't blame Stephens for that.

Halep's attitude is truly inspirational, and I'm very happy for her. Now that Stephens and Halep (one of my two favorites) have won slams, I hope Keys will win one too. But, for that to happen, she must learn how to play smarter and dig deep when needed. That's what takes to win a slam!

Yep, I heard stuff like this too. Although never saw it for myself. She definitely thinks she’s the shit though, and doesn’t seem prepared to put the work in. Not versus her talent level anyway.

Good performances from both. Stephens was dominant for the first and a portion of the early 2nd. Halep has the same grit and determination that many of the top champions have and I'm glad she finally picked up a slam to authenticate her ranking.

I'm frankly surprised that Stephens was so dominant on clay as she's always come across more as a hard court specialist. If she performs this well at the Open then she's got a good chance of retaining her title imo. Probably the 2nd best player in the world behind Halep right now.

Did Thiem just yell 'feck'?

It was out.. why is there no hawkeye at RG.

I think they use the marks on the clay because they are visible. Although there is error because you can pick the wrong mark. Like it seemed to happen there.

That could be a massive point. Thiem could've won the game but is now struggling to hold serve. Ridiculous call.

Thing is, we get to see the hawkeye footage on tv. That’s how I know it was out. So if the system is there, why not use it.

Yep, should be used. No disadvantage to using it at all, maybe they want to stick to 'tradition'.

Absolutely ridiculous. Thankfully Thiem held his serve there.

Thiem is controlling the baseline rallies

Putting a lot more energy than Nadal though in ripping those baseline shots, Nadal may wear him out.

Though Thiem did dominate Nadal recently in a clay match iirc. Ended Nadals record winnig streak.
