Don‘t know any other talents besides Zverev. Someone has to take over from the old guard eventually? Who could that be in your opinion?
I'd imagine it might end up being similar to the WTA at the moment. A lot of good but not great players battling it out for slams. Probably see a lot of random results rather than a few individuals dominating.

A lot was expected from Niskikori a few years back, right?

Nishikori had his opportunity at the 2014 USO, but he faced a player who was playing out of his mind. Since then, Nishi made no real progress.

He is still 28 and his day might come, but I would expect more of him at this stage.

Was there?

I always thought as him of a David Ferrer clone. Ferrer was a consistent top10 player, but there was nothing explosive about his game to make that jump up to win a slam like a Wawrinka. But credit to Ferrer as he still has had a successful career despite not being the most talented.

Even Gasquet if he put a lot more effort and dedication in his game would have probably achieved more.

Zverev is the only one despite his poor slam showing looks capable of doing something in the future because he is winning masters.

Murray is skipping another tournament and might be ready for Wimbledon.

I can’t believe it’s been nearly a year since he has played. Wouldn’t surprise me if he pulls out of Wimbledon with it being in a months time.

He needs to probably play challengers something which Wawrinka and Djokovic didn’t do. If he can get a few wins then make the step up.

 And to think some actually wanted Tancredi banned from the Twitter thread.

It does make a difference for people who aren't interested in sifting through endless bullshit to find a sliver of something interesting. Most people don't have endless amounts of time to spend on the site, and they shouldn't have to 10-15 pages of Tancredi, Indykalia, meme gifs and other pointless crap to find a quality transfer tweet.

How about not posting the Tweet for starters, and Tancredi Palmeri as well.

Don't post tweets by Tancredi. We've been through this before.

Amazing how many empty seats there are at RG this year. Watching Sharapova v Mugaruza rightr now and its about 20-30% full for a grand slam quarter final.

Mugaruza cruising over Sharapova so far.
Any of the top 10-15 in the women's right now would cruise over Sharapova. It took her a couple years after the long injury lay off in the beginning of the decade to compete again, not seeing it happen this time at her age.

And Halep showing signs of life, winning 3 games in a row to make it 3-4.

Sharapova, predictably, going to go out without a whimper. Hordes of teenage boys will be gutted.

She really is a triumph of hype over ability. The coverage that surrounds he would have you believe she was a genuine contender for these kinds of matches.

Can you really call her hype? She’s won 5 slams and earned over $37m. I think she’s done the best she can with her abilities. She’s definitely no Serena, but who is?

You can call someone like Bouchard hype. But atleast Sharapova has been consistent before the banning throughout her career. She just wasn’t up to the standards of Serena.

I agree. She was a fantastic player and has had a brilliant career. But modern day Sharapova is almost entirely hype, or at least out of all proportion to her actual ability to beat the top players when it matters. She shouldn't even be in the conversation (without mentioning, as you correctly point out, the unfair comparisons to the best player of all time, who she last beat a decade ago and last took a set off 5 years ago). She needs so many things to go her way to even reach a slam final, yet she receives an enormously disproportionate and arguably generous media coverage.

Sounded like a fecking aeroplane going over while she was playing.

She reminds me a bit of Capriati. Extremely hyped teenager who went on to win a few slams and make #1 but never managed any degree of consistency to be discussed as a generational great.

Halep when she’s on is mightily frustrating to play against, such tenacity.

Kerber was looking really good early on but just fizzled out as the match went on.

Part of it is her own ability as a canny businesswoman to keep herself in the spotlight and leverage that fame into her business ventures, the other part is the media’s obsession with sexualizing attractive female tennis players for the mass i.e Kournikova, Bouchard.

I found her antics on the court increasingly annoying as the years went by, but do wonder sometimes how her career would pan out without the shoulder injury. She’s had problem serving ever since and it was one of her biggest weapon as a 18 year old in that Wimbledon.

Not even watching, but if only Schwartzman was taller. Was funny seeing him vs Anderson at the net.

It is a shame for sure, he would easily be in contention post top 4 era if he has a decent serve.

Schwartzman and Dolgopolov are my go to guys if/when there’s no big name playing.
