Much harder than expected and Cilic looked at times the far better player, but the old master got it.

No idea when are we going to have an another male to get 20. And well, Fed isn't done yet.

Nadal might manage it on French opens alone

He ain't gonna play as 35 years old, IMO. And I think that US Open will be his last chance to get an another non-French open grand slam.

Nice speech by Cilic

Winning US Open this year might be just there for Rosewall's record I think. (Edit: Ah, no, it's played too early for that)

Unfortunately he will just miss it by a month or so since his birthday is in August and the Open is in Sep.

The all year round excellence would still count in Federer's favor. Winning 3 Majors more than 5 times (5 US, 6 AO and 8 Wimby) is more impressive than winning one 10+ times, in my opinion.

Federer will return to Nr 1 in the world if Nadal doesn't reach the Semi-Final in Acapulco in a couple of weeks.

Wow. Never heard Fed so emotional...

He's very emotional Roger (more then usual).....I wonder does he think this is going to be his last year?

Happier now Cilic is out of view. Was probably pissed at him ruining his pictures.

Absolutely. If he wins Wimbledon (as he should), then just cannot see Nadal catching him and winning an another 5 slams.

The thing is that Fed not only is the best player at Wimby ever, but he is in discussion for the best player in US Open and Australian Open. Nadal at French Open has been more dominant than any other player in any tournament, but outside of it, would anyone put him on top 3 (or even top 5) of one of the other three slams?

Got my eyes welling up here. Wonderful moment.

Laver taking a selfie!

I think at 36 in sports, you don't really expect to win at the highest level like this. Then this happens.... I can't imagine how someone feels in that situation. It's remarkable.

Roger Federer. An absolute genius and one of the greatest sport has ever seen. From that first GS win to this one, supporting him has been a treat.

Twenty. F*cking twenty!!

Greatest ever, by some margin that. His 20th looked like it's his 1st. Holds/shares the record for most titles in 3 of the 4 majors in the open era. Phenomenal player...

That's a great stat.

Also big props for Cilic. He picked himself up in the 4th and really gave it all. Wimbledon should be his this year barring injury. He's constantly improving, especially in his physique.

Good fightback by the Croatian, hopefully gives him more confidence in big finals in the future. Fed tho.. fecking hell, a god - he's walking through these tournaments.

Federer is such an emotional guy. Love it that he appears so calm on the court and has the winning mentality to win 20 grandslams, but also emotes and gets overcome by emotion.

He's won 10% of all the Slams in the open era, that was the 200th Slam and his 20th title.

Even more amazing since he didn't play during the first 30 years of the open era.

He has won something like 25% of all slams since turning pro in 98.

Well that is an amazing stat.

Clearly a very emotional day for Roger and what a journey it has been for him all those years.
This final chapter winning 3 out of 5 grandslams after 4.5 years without one must feel incredible. The period he coulrchace faded away has been become his ressurection and reclaiming of the tennis crown.

As a fan of his, the downs were obviously hard to take. But in a way the journey from tennis God to second best/barren run to tennis God a more besuriful/fitting one.

I like Cilic and his style. A potential number one when Fed/Nadal step down and if he keeps it up.

As for today's match, I never expected it be easy. Cilic is an excellent player and currently deserving of a 3rd place in the rankings. And on the fastest GS court at the AO, he always had a chance to win this.

But I thought Federer played well today. He had that one terrible service game but in general he should pleased with the overall quality of his tennis.

I thought he was the better player in the second as well but Cilic shone in the pressure moments when he wss in trouble. And the tie breaker was tight as well.

At the same time, having lost the 4th after being up a break and down a break point in the opening game of the fifth, he could have lost today. But I think you have to give credit to Cilic too. When he turns up the heat, few can live with the ferocity of his groundstrokes. The issue is that when you do play like that, it is hard to sustain.

Only problem is that he is 29 himself. He should definitely be aiming at winning one more GS at least.
