I don't watch women's tennis that often so I have to say I'm surprised at the difference in power between the two players. Is Halep usually a weaker player or is Ostapenko just so powerful? If she wasn't hitting an unforced error every other ball, she'd be walking this.

Ostapenko seems ridiculously overpowered, it's as if she was created as a computer game character and someone just gave her max power. She's only 20 but she reminds me of Serena :s I agree, if she cuts the unforced errors out she'd be quids in here.

It does make for an interesting clash of styles. Halep doing everything to defend against it, with impressive movement and consistency. Ostapenko with her relentless attack and sheer power, but very high error count. In terms of the actual quality on display however, it's not great.

Damn it. This is just the beginning of the end now.
Have you been watching? Both so unreliable on serve, Ostapenko hits a beauty to break straight back. They're almost safer returning, more likely to win the game.

I have yeah. I want Ostapenko to win so I'm preparing myself for defeat just to soften the blow.
Yeah, I do understand, just felt you were going a bit early with the pessimism given how many breaks there have been (despite both wasting double figures worth of break points). Unbelievable fluke at break point.

Ostapenko wins!

Wish someone would commission a series where Bartoli just commentates over stuff. The General Election would've been so much better with her.

Hope Ostapenko's been working on her post-match speeches. Disappointing match from Halep, golden opportunity to get a slam and she blew it, Ostapenko the deserved winner.

Bloody hell she's good and what amazing fight to come from a set down 4 times in the tournament. I feel sorry for Halep but it's great to see a young player playing like that win the title.

She hits really flat and hard which could be great at Wimbledon too. Great achievement, nothing against Halep but I'm glad offence wins the day.

This girl has got a hell of a shot speed. Low trajectory and fast. ALL THE TIME.

I've never seen anything quite like it.

When she improves her serve, shot accuracy and tactics, she'll be near unbeatable.

Has anyone here bought tickets to the US Open (or any other Slam event). Asking for some friends; they want to watch a random 1st week match. How quickly do the tickets on the official site get sold out? Is there any other way to buy?
Thanks.

I have for the Roland Garros and Wimbledon and both are very different (RG a lot easier).

With Roland Garros, tickets go on general sale around March time. Tickets for the first week don't go that quickly in my experience for the first week. You just buy tickets on the official website and you're sorted. They also allow resales on the site which means people don't have to go to other sites to resell, so it's all fairly easy.

Wimbledon has a few routes to get tickets, but the most common is through the public ballot (done via post for those in the UK) and online for those overseas. Not sure what the overseas timeline is like, but here, you need to have sumbitted your application (no preference of day/court) by December and the ballot starts from February time when you find out if you were successful. Chances to get tickets are slim, I've applied 5 years in a row and got tickets once. This year my brother applied and eventually got an offer last week, but it was for Court 1 on SF day, so turned them down.

I'd also say Wimbledon's grounds are a hell of a lot nice than at RG, thought they did have some cool stuff, it just looked a bit ugly.

Hoping Nadal can pull it off tomorrow. He deserves it after the turn around he has made this year. But this is going to be the biggest test and probably a career defining match. As at 31 he is not going to have many more chances to get the French.

Just concerned if Stan gets that backhand going then it could be a very long and hard afternoon for Rafa. He's struggled with Federer since he has improved the backhand. Even though I felt Federer ducked Nadal here as he probably knew he would have lost.

If it's as hot as they said it was going to be that probably reduces Stan's chances from slim to nil... Only possible issues for Rafa are he might be undercooked from his easy draw, and he's not tended to play too well in finals in the last few years. Still think he'll take it in 3 or 4 though.
