Shit forgot game was on, 6 a.m here then.

How did it go?

Also, Ferrer out. He's just finished now isn't he?

No surprises.

Guy relied basically on his stamina without having a real special weapon. He got the best out of his abilities unlike players like TSonga and Gasguet who could have done more to get that one grand slam.

Can't believe this. Rafa about to get bagled?

Wow

Expected Koly to be a challenging match up... but???? Yikes

Had the whole court open and he hits it back to Nadal:lol:

Kohlschreiber was on the verge of going out to Fritz last round and all... He's always good for a slump so Rafa should get his chances, needs to stop shanking so much though.

Rafa at least holding serve at the moment.

Tennis players routinely throw away a set once they realise they wont win it. It's gamesmanship.

Yeah. I just read an article on how Fed is (maybe - there's no way to tell for sure) the only one of the Big 4 who doesn't do it.

First came across it when Agassi openly spoke about it in his Autobiography. Read lots on it over the years.

Had always shocked me that a player could lose 6-0, 4-6, 4-6 until then.

- Some players say it's easier to write off the set and just tell themselves "This one doesn't matter". To help their own state of mind.
- Other players say it's a way of not giving the other player any confidence for free.
- Some say it represents a greater contrast in the following set for their opponent.
- Some state that they'll only focus the rest of the set on the thing that's going wrong; ie if their backhand is failing they'll give themselves as many backhand opportunities as possible. Others will do the exact opposite.

Once you know it happens, it's easy enough to spot or guess at.

I love that aspect of Tennis. A mental tactical game like that is so rare in sports that has no direct contact between opponents.

Nadal got bageled for the first time since 2008. Came across this interesting bit of stats:

One bagel in 17 years for Federer, 2008 at the FO against Nadal. Jesus...

It's a shame they have to meet this early in the tournament. I want Federer to win, of course, but I would also love to see Del Potro move towards the top 5 again.

Such a pleasure to come home from work and relax with Rogie vs Del Po:drool:

Agree with you.

Come on Fed take one of these breakers

A bit error and net prone today, but the urgency and pressure behind Federers returns is really something to behold this year.

Edit: Clean break.

Oh what a shot at break point down

Oh what a shot to finish:drool:

Good game from both

Feels a little reminiscent of the match against Donskoy: Federer keeps going for his opponents forehand with his serve from the deuce court. Strange. It's like he's daring them to hit that super hard and flat return. Could backfire.

Nice little drop shop to end the set though, massive hold.

Fed seems a bit 'intense' today.... it's quite early in the match to hear him doing the 'come on's' or however it's called in his Swiss German:)
