I'm more complaining about the scheduling tbh, but since they are Fedal guess nothing besides Arthur Ashe would suffice.

That's most likely because they had to get the people who paid for day time tickets out as they were still in from the Nadal game as that was part of the day time session. So they couldn't just bring Federer and Lopez out. They had to let the people who paid for night time session tickets in first.

A lot of long matches today, so that made the schedule difficult.

Fed is in great form tonight. He needs to shut this down in the 3rd after having played 10 sets in the first two matches.

I don't expect anything to happen between Fed and Rafa until they meet.

Interestingly, Shapovalov has a relatively straightforward path towards making the semis or finals.

Nadal's side is clear as can be with Berdych and Dimitrov out. Fed should be good playing like this vs Kohlschreiber but DelPo in quarter will be a tough, tough match.

Shapovalov will probably make the quarter. Expect whoever wins the Querrey/Zverev match to make it to the final. Then again, you never know with this USO.

Good stuff from Federer. Much improved peformance.

Nadal looked a bit shit for a set and a half, and was really on the ropes before breaking Meyer and winning comfortably in the end.

No TB

Good thing Lopez never troubled him on his 2nd serve. Still served an alarmingly low % of from 2nd set onwards but he won 60% of his 2nd serve to Lopez's 40% and that made the difference in the end.

Burned a lot at net, think it was 11/20 pts won. Those were about the only points Lopez won on his 1st serve when he actually got them in.

Good thing it didn't end in TB considering that first serve %. He looked better but overall serve game was subpar. Next match should also be easy on paper but against Delpo he has to raise his level a lot.

Complete capitulation in the tie breaker when he knows he should've ended the set 15 minutes ago.

He even had 3 chances to end the set on the 12th game.

Talented, but still a long long way to go. Beating the top 4 at Slams while you are dropping sets to journeymen like this? Meh.

This guy isn't a journeyman. He's the 17th ranked player in the world.

Also, Shapovalov at 18, has already disposed of Nadal and Del Potro this year and there's a lot more to come.

Beating DelPo this year isn't that big a deal tbh, he's had a very very poor year.

Shapo has a great game and should do well but he's got a way to go yet. He was lucky Edmund got injured last match as well.

His highest career ranking is 16th. He's been on tour for 7 years and never won a 500 title. That's as journeyman as you get. Stan had 10 times the career before 2014 and was considered a journeyman.

No one is denying the kid has talent, but he's a long way off from displacing the current top pros.

When you're an unranked 18 year old, defeating Nadal and Del Potro - two big names in men's Tennis (to varying degrees) is a massive deal. If he wins today, no one will have gone this deep in a men's major since Chang in 90 and Agassi in 88.

Yeah beating Nadal was big but Nadal has also has had lots of shock defeats he should not have. Beating (atleast pre USO) Delpo wasn't that big a deal really. He's been very mediocre all year. Shapo has played pretty well this tournament and he's taken advantage of a poor draw that the likes of Zverev and Dimitrov should have.

The luck of the draw has nothing to do with his play. He has been playing exceptionally well this year given his age and experience level. You don't beat Nadal, who has made two slam finals this year, if you're not up to the task. There is clearly something here with this kid.

The current Nadal isn't the same one who made those two finals tbh. Lajovic served for the set aganst him, he lost one to some unknown Japanese, lost one to lucky loser and #125 Mayer so Rafa isn't playing close to his best. I like the look of Shapo as well and I'm not denying he looks like a good talent so far but those 2 wins aren't enough proof of that. We've just seen kids come in with a bit of a bang and then disappear somewhat so I'm hoping he maintains his standards for a good while.
Also, he's about to go 2 sets to love down to PCB...

Nadal's current level is about the same as its been during his two slam runs earlier this year.

Nah, he's not crap but is clearly a way off from his Melbourne/Paris form. It's not like Montreal was the only time he flopped this year either, getting flattened by Kyrgios in Cincy and dropping set to nothing players this USO.

Denis got the break back. Set 1 on reverse?

He's certainly not any worse off than his Aussie form, especially if you've watched the latter sets of his last two matches. He has been in full flow there.

He took a while to get going on every match and has been dropping set or got close to do so against nobodies. Hardly the form that saw him dismantling Raonic and beat a red hot Dimitrov fresh off a title win in AO.

USO surface especially suits him better than the Oz's one as well, since more sand beneath makes it slower and higher bounce on the ball.

3 tie breaks. Ultimately Shapo didnt play the biggest points well.

Sharapova played a shot with her left hand in the middle of a rally against Sevastova because it was easier for her to reach the ball. She immediately switched the racquet back to her right hand for the next shot. Was nice to see.
