the big boys fading has really re-opened up the sport for genuine fun throughout the tournament instead of waiting 2 weeks for the big four to essentially play each other.
I wouldn't get carried away with Pouille yet.
That was basically a repeat of the Fognini match for Nadal. He's shown nothing yet that he could win a slam.
Nadal is finished at the top, he needs a drastic change in mentality which is not going to happen. Pouille played ok but he doesn't beat Nole or Murray playing at that level, every time someone beats Rafa it seems like they played out of this world but the fact that it is happening every second week now shows that it's not really that hard to do.
Otherwise he sits alongside Verdasco, Dustin Brown and Fognini as guys who Nadal made look very good.
He has nothing in common with those guys. The above are all journeyman players.
Pouille is a relatively young guy who's had his best year in tennis culminating in an excellent result here. There's a natural progression here with his ranking climbing steadily as well.
Well we'd see.
Beating Nadal doesn't get you touted as a future grand slam champion anymore. Especially after Pouille could have easily been eliminated in the first two rounds. And Nadals recent record in grand slams has been abysmal.
Maybe it's me. But Del Potro was beating Nadal and Fed at their peak when he was just 20. That was impressive for a young player. Reaching a few quarter finals at 22 in tennis doesn't shout impressive to me.
Everyone is quick to look for a bright new star. One year it's Dimitrov. The next it's Nishikori. Then it's Thiem and Kyrgios. If you want to be the next star of tennis then you need to be consistent in majority of tournaments you play just like the great players.
Murray looks really really good. Think he'll give Djokovic a very tough match.
Delpo or Stan maybe, but I'd be shocked if Nishikori beat himHe looked really good but I have a feeling he's going to be knocked out unexpectedly before the final. Think Nishikori or Del Potro might get him. Djokovic meanwhile is cruising to the final with one of the softest draws ever

It was worse last year.So many retirements and injuries.
I don't want to jinx him again but Murray is currently in the best form in his career (38 wins out of the last 40 matches and has reached the final in the last 7 tournaments)......in my opinion only Djokovic could beat him over five sets.He looked really good but I have a feeling he's going to be knocked out unexpectedly before the final. He was already two sets up and cruising in the match when Tsonga retired.

I didn't see it but was Tsonga hampered by the injury in those sets? If he was then that is making it pretty easy for Djokovic still.
Unbelievable that he's had such an easy run. Whoever comes out of the other side won't have the energy to match him.
