Think he's going to be a real Talent but needs time to intergrate to the first team Gradually, which I'm not so Sure will be this year I would love to see it . On another note I know he is Dutch and with that Hair will get the Gullit comparasions but I think he does look very Similiar in style to a young Gullit .

What's the verdict on this guy then? Got to say I didn't know a lot about him but he looks potentially brilliant...looks an unbelievable talent to my untrained eye!

He is something else, no doubt about that. I think he will be a star for us.

He is also a dream case for marketing.

After Januzaj I stopped rating “talents”. But ya he looks promising.

Yup, pretty hard to tell who will and won't make it!

They are only youtube highlights but he looks close to being ready for some game time in the first team next season. Looks to have everything to make it as a top player, ok Jose mentioned his strength but that is simply an age thing!

I have seen him play, not everything, but about 10 games or so. He has impressed me and I think he will be star.

I agree with Jose regarding the strength, but as you say; thats is simply an age thing.

I hope he will play some part time role this season and hopefully will be a first choice next season.

His opportunity at that early stage in his career had a good measure of luck but it's not like he hadn't been a highly rated youth prospect in the club.

Which is wholly irrelevant.

Also, ironically this argument defeats itself as we went through 4 player injuries before LVG was forced to play his only option remaining which was Rashford despite him being highly rated.

No idea what we’ll pay but don’t you think Perisic would be a great signing? Impressed the hell out of me at the WC.

For the left side? I heard some people talking about him on the right but he rarely plays there. I would happily go for Rebic on the right he is faster and stronger and has an aggressive streak which we are sorely lacking. His final ball could be improved but that’s the only criticism I can make based on the WC. He Have Young nightmares and ran hm ragged. He also scores a good number of goals and disrupts his oppo leftback consistently for his club.

If he keeps it up, he won't be playing at academy level much longer.
Pedantically speaking he's already too old for academy level. ;)

I'm not sure why he's being criticised for physicality though, if anything he showed great physicality and bodied a number of their players to win the ball and then held them up. Hopefully gets a proper run in the cup games and works his way onto the bench late in the season. Still got something to learn in the u23s for now too.

A less good Di Maria in the making.

No it doesn't. He was a highly rated youth prospect, but due to his age ( like chong)he was unlikely to get a chance for a few years.
An injury crisis gave him a chance and he took it. Fair play to LVG he kept him in the team
Wouldn't have happened with Jose as he doesn't give youth players a chance in cup competitions.

It's a good job that Jose wasn't in charge when giggs was in the youth team as he might have needed to bulk up also.

He kept him in the team because all his players were still injured and he kept on scoring goals. Not complicated
Really.

Lets see what happens. He could very well be up for the task soon. I think Jose is right to protect him and keep him grounded.

Do some in here expect Mourinho to come out and say after that performance he's got a chance of being in the first team squad?

It's all about keeping players feet on the ground and not stopping the hard work that has got him to where he is - a teenager being discussed as a potential attacking weapon for Manchester United.

Jose has outlined what he wants from him, with the taking extra touches line, and now it's down to Chong to build on that.

He's at the age and physical development that getting a few sub appearances and playing in the cups will be just what he needs.

We're potentially starting the season really light on attackers, so there is a chance he makes the bench if he shines on tour. Let's wait and see before chastising Jose after one game in which he actually played him and then praised him afterwards.

This here is what most would have wanted and thought. The reality is, it’s not really what Jose said, hence the discussion. It suggests he won’t be afforded that opportunity, largely because he’s not strong enough.

Yes I know what Jose said, but it's if you choose to 100% believe him.

He could have come out and said 'if he carries on performing like this he's got a chance of being on the bench' or he could say what he actually did and make him want to strive to improve

van Gaal happened.

I'd mostly put it on LvG (and Adnan himself obv) but i think Moyes and Neville rushed him into the first team. Hard to put players who still need development back into their box when you've already made them a young star.

It's why i think we'd be wiser being patient with Chong. Another season on the fringes won't hurt him

Have seen clips and the odd few games but what is his finishing like? I've seen his dribbling and I like his style but really curious on his finishing. Very important for the modern day wide forward.

I kinda disagree with your theory, All the superstars of World Football have been injected into First Team very early.
Mbappe, Messi, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Pele, Rooney, Maldini, Cruyff ... you name it, all of them have been introduced in their teenage. Adnan maybe just didn't work hard enough.
Chong, if shows in the rest of pre-season that he is good enough (might have some obvious aspects to improve), must be integrated into the playing 11 this season and should be played in at least a dozen matches with the first team.

F*** he is good. Hope he continues to develop and keep working hard.

They didn’t make Adnan a young star, he did that with his talent.

I think people need to get passed viewing an 18 year old playing pro football as unusual. It happens a lot, and there are many talented ones who acquit themselves well too. All about the individual and the coaches around him.

Hope he impresses tonight. Not even necessarily for his own sake. If he excels in pre-season, yet Jose thinks he isn’t ready for PL football, he will at least see that he needs something else and Mata can’t offer the same skill set. He will need a proper winger if Chong is simply too young.

And Sanchez too

Whatever you say about him his work rate is incredible and only good for younger lads to be around

Let's find a reasoning to criticize Jose for this decision. Just for the lulz.

As someone with a similar stature to Chong, I know the problems of being tall, slender and quick and I see it in Chong. Once you're in momentum and running at speed, it takes that milli second longer to turn back on the direction you're running away from, which can be an issue when you're shoulder to shoulder with someone with lower sense of gravity. It's also easier for said defender to knock you off your balance.

He gets knocked off the ball quite easily, I can see why Jose says he’s not ready for the first team. Looks promising though.

Struggled a lot in most of his challenges unlike the previous games.

Talented lad. Very easy to look like a playground superstar on YouTube though.

Most encouraging aspect of the video is how willing he is to get battered. Twig-thin but gets stuck in.
