Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

I've not heard anything about this and I have family members and friends who know Brown and attended his dad's funeral.

Really haven't heard anything of this sort. Then again, I haven't asked, but it seems the type of thing I'd hear about.
The Sun is the only paper that wrote about it, and everyone seem to take for granted it's true, no idea why.

Selling footballer is a bit like selling your house, I guess. You need to get past the emotional attachment and think about the nicer place you'll soon move into. Be bloody strange seeing O'Shea at another club though :(

I doubt that OShea will be sold. His versatility is an asset.

why we are all going mad (myself included)? has the bid already been accepted?

It's sad, but not so different to when we sold Pneville and Butt - Fergie has always been a master to knowing when to let players go, and in a way I'd rather we lost O'Shea and kept Evans (if it comes down to such a simple equation).

Actually I never understood why PNev was sold. He would be a first teamer in the current side.

I always considered our club to maintain an emotional link for players settling here and I still do. Of course, we need to look past it when circumstances dictate but with O'shea isn't one of those circumstances.

You think JOS is a player who'd be moving for 'silly money'?

Are we thinking about the same guy here? £8m would be a far price I'd say.

No he isn't a silly money player but he's useful to us and unless the offer is laughably good then we shouldn't accept it.

cleverly isn't even in the wilshere mould.

wilshere is in a class on his own.

the rest filter in behind.

It remains to be seen if cleverly will even make it at united. This upcoming season is his first real chance.

have been very impressed wheever I have seen Cleverly. have no doubt he will make it with us.

I will agree Wilshire is well ahead atm.

Isn't O'Shea on 70k a week at United? Surely he won't get anywhere near that at Sunderland?

Dont want to see O'Shea go, but isnt Evans and this Jones guy a bit versatile?
Shame as it is, Brown seems gone a long time ago..
Gibson.. meh

My heart just sank. Never really thought about the possibility of Sheasy leaving :( SAF please just laugh those bids off!!

They can have Gibbo & Brown, O'Shea should stay for his versatility. Brown will be replaced by Jones & Gibson by Cleverley.

are the announcements supposed to be next Monday or July 1st..dont know why I have heard that date as the day for transfers to start for the summer.

British transfer window opens after the last game of the season. July 1st is some other foreign countries.

Chelsea made a mistake last summer by losing a lot of experienced players and not replacing them. I hope we don't make the same mistakes.

In that case we should be biting their hands off at £12m - only Steve Bruce would sort us out with 12 mil for 3 squad players in the last year of the contracts

12m is a good offer, no doubt. We lose some versatility if O'Shea leaves but the twins and Jones should be enough to cover that part.

In an ideal world I'd rather see O'Shea retire in a United shirt. He has been a loyal servant. Gibson I feel for - to a certain extent - as he need games to further develop, but will most likely not get that if there's a major overhaul incoming to strengthen our European ambitions.

Edit: Correction - O'Shea had an extension to 2014 only a couple of months ago.

This is what I think

Brown - He's hardly played and he has age and injuries against him. He's had a long career here and deserves some regular first team action. Good luck to him.

Gibson - We've had doubts about for some time. It's better for us to let him go and bring in a top class midfielder. Also we have other talented young midfielders like Cleverley and Pogba who might fulfil their potential instead. Giving them a clearer route to the first team is a good idea.

O'Shea - He's always been a useful asset but he is 30 now and eventually his level will drop. We are well covered in defence these days and the ability of the Da Silvas give us so many options. It's sad to see a homegrown player with so much experience leave but I would understand the decision. Thankfully, Jones' versatility could make him an ideal defensive replacement.

Looks like we're making a lot of changes this summer. Let's hope that change is good for us.

He would get first team football though.

That's true, but he still does play a load of games for us and he picks up medals in the process. If I were O'Shea I don't think I'd accept it, not only are you taking a paycut but he's still playing a fair amount of games, unlike Brown.

we need experience. losing vds nev scholes and brown is enough. sheasy could be a big mistake.

12 million sounds about right for Brown, Gibson and O'Shea. I'm not too bothered with Brown and Gibson leaving but O'Shea was a decent enough squad player. I hope this means a couple of the talented youth team players will be given a chance.

Fergie won't let O'Shea go unless it is a very good offer. So the 12m thing can't be true.

No way are we selling oshea. Important player for us and one of the best squad players.
