Sunday's gossip

Cosmos are a great team with a colorful history. As big as a team formed in 1971 gets..

But Manchester City’s shocking discovery that their worldwide scouting database could have been hacked by an employee of a rival Premier League club will rock football to its core.

Its definitely not Spurs. They're still chasing our targets. :)

Eh? Liverpool seem to only go for players where there does not seem to be any other clubs interested and therefore no chance of embarrassment.

Did he not know that both Northern Rock and Virgin Money were money lenders also?
Surely there is a slight moral difference between banks that offer personal loans to their customers, at competitive interest rates, and a pay-day loan company that prey on the financially vulnerable in society with exorbitant interest rates?

I would agree in general, but if his religious principles are so strong that he's this concerned about it (allegedly) then I doubt there would be a grey area.

Also, I think it's a shitty move from NEWC getting into bed with cnuts like these.

Northern Rock were cnuts to be fair!

There is to us but Sharia law states that you cannot simply lend money at interest - covered by both virign, NR and Wonga. Whilst two of those might be morally more acceptable to non-muslims, all three are unacceptable according to Sharia law.

Sounds like it is a handy excuse, if i'm being cynical.

Yeah, but they were a bank. I wouldn't imagine banking establishments are the issue, rather the manner the likes of Wonga go about making their money.

Do Muslims use banks?

I didn't know that. So Islamic law is against loans in all forms then? How do devout Muslims buy their homes?

If you are a strict muslim then you will use sharia compliant banks. So when you want a mortgage, they cannot lend you money and charge you interest. So the bank buys the house and then sell it to you at a profit (capital + the intended interest) on which you make repayments, thereby technically getting around the issue of charging you interest on an outstanding loan.

All three sponsors are not acceptable to muslims, just one is morally repugnant to go with it.

Fair enough, you learn something new every day.

Mike Ashley needs a kick in the balls for getting into bed with a company like Wonga.

Allah's lawyers move with the times.

Probably for a different thread but that's a joke.

Do they not think the big man upstairs might see that they're just finding a workaround?!?

Most religious people pick and choose which bits to follow. The whole idea is that only the "Main man" is perfect and we're all fallible anyway!

That is how Muslim banks operate and it isn't just a technicality because the bank do own the property and not just a mortgage on the property. It is the difference between buying a car with a loan and leasing one. You don't own a lease car.

It's not just a workaround because strict Muslims believe the letter of the law is the spirit of the law. If you are not earning interest on a loan, then you are not breaking Sharia law, even if you are doing something which has a similar outcome.

So does the Muslim dude never own the house, he just rents/leases it off the bank and gives it back at the end of the term?

From memory there are various arrangements that can help compliance with Sharia Law depending on location/Sharia Law interpretation and transaction type. I think most property deals use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murabahah

I could of course be mistaken as it is ages since I was in the Middle East/Gulf. In general you willown the property once the last payment is made.

Not enough United related bull for me this week.

Have Madrid ever expressed an interest in Suarez or is it just a figment of his and Liverpool's imagination? Liverpool fearing that they might wait until the end of the window seems presumptuous if they haven't expressed interest and are bringing in Cavani?

The one thing that could make City more repugnant? Suarez.

The Rooney Ronaldo swap seems too fictitious to even entertain, though Ancelotti seems keen on Rooney, first at PSG now at Madrid?

Don't know where to put this, but as he's not being linked to us and he's not that well known except to Liga fans, I'll throw it in here. This is all over the Spanish press.

Barcelona's forward, Cristian Tello has a 10m Euro release clause and Arsenal and Liverpool are supposed to be contemplating springing it. However, this time it looks like Barca are seriously trying to renegotiate his contract if only to give him more money and bump the release clause higher.

Stephen Ireland is still alive?

Also didn't realise Kone and Ben Arfa were so old. I still thought that the latter could play for a top club as he was showing glimmers of brilliance but its probably a bit too late for him now as he's never really had that consistent streak. Kone would be a waste of money for us too, hope we don't buy him.

He's pretty crap... Can't Believe Guardiola had to cheek to say he's better than Wilshere.

From what I've read whilst trawling through the Spanish papers for Thiago news (yes, I'm in full-on muppet mode), he seems keen to stay for at least another year and Barcelona keen to learn lessons from the Thiago saga and not let another youngster slip through their fingers on the cheap.

Makes you question why they aren't adopting the same stance with Thiago? It seems his mind is made up to go and they've accepted it.

As for Tello I see him staying with higher release clause and maybe leaving after next season.

Sidenote: Arsenal and Liverpool seem to scout all the same players these days.

* It'd be a bit rich if Luis 'The English media are hounding me!' Suarez goes to...another English club; and one in Manchester too, where he's always been so popular...

*Why do journalists feel the need to mention people's ages? Twits.

I find it useful. Gives a sense of number years left to peak and retirement.

Yeah but they do it for managers too. :D

Maybe they get paid by the word. ;) :D
