Summer transfer window

You've got to buy a left back and two CMs (get a RB if any dosh left over). If I were you they'd be Shaw, Carvalho (in the bag allegedly) and Kroos (probably not gonna happen). I don't see realistic options if Kroos blows out.
neither do I. This is what concerns me most. We could spend 50m on June 16th and still not have solved any problems with the squad, ie. nobody in our CM has been able to pass a ball for 5-7 years. It's a disgrace, but we may have left it too late to bring in someone of the right level. I'm concerned anyway but I hope our boys are up to the task of bringing in a player of the right calibre

There are realistic options. Rakitic, Saul Niguez, L. Bender, Kovacic, Gonalons, Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera, Blind, Pjanic, Fofana and Koke for example. Most of them still need development and don't belong in the same category to the very best, but we can't be picky and they all have either enough potential or are good enough to improve on what we have, which isn't that much of a task. Whether they actually want to come, turn out to be good enough or have the right price is a different matter.

There are still players available, Kroos aside. I'm a huge fan but I'd said a few times I was a bit concerned about his lack of dynamism or physical attributes.

It seems we are well in the Carvahlo race, and I would agree we need a more creative option alongside him, who can also look after themselves a bit and cover ground (with and without the ball ideally). I admit I was probably too harsh on Koke, and he looks that he'd be a fantastic addition, even for 50m euros. If we are confident of Gundogan's fitness and he doesn't go to Barca, he will also be a good shout, as will Mateo Kovacic, although he isn't starting for Inter and is still young. I couldn't bear to see him go elsewhere though, if not us, hopefully he stays at Inter.

CB, LB and two CMs are my predictions.

I'd like to see a winger too to replace Young/Valencia, but I'd prefer to have Nani, Kagawa, Mata and Januzaj all battling for places to play behind Rooney (or RVP).
If Kagawa/Nani leaves, then I'd say we'd need to sign a superstar.

I'd be happy with a youngster to replace Young/Valencia, or someone who doesn't really expect to start when joining United.

I must say, the idea of Pedro is delicious

The more footage I see of Carvalho, the more I think he would be a great signing. All the buzz about him seems to highlight a very good, promising young player. If we did buy him, and only him, for the CM position, I think we could play him alongside Cleverley quite well. Cleverley is a pretty good passer of the ball and with freedom of a more mobile player behind him, he could do well....could!
My priority would be the full back positions. We have shipped so many goals from our weakness here.

I used to think this. Now i wish we never sold Gibbo

Is anyone else reluctant to get their hopes up too much with all these reports that we are going to spend £100-200m this summer.

I think last summer with all the reports of ronaldo/bale/fabregas and ending up with Fellaini finally snuffed out the last bit of life left in my inner transfer muppet.

And i had been a transfer muppet since before the term was even coined probably, used to love the ClubCall rumours on the bottom of the teletext pages back in the day Eg: ''United poised for triple dutch swoop'' was the 90's equivalent of twitter, like twitter it was 99% bullshit also.

On no basis should we be planning on building a regular midfield around Tom Cleverley. He's a coward and will be lucky to start next season in our squad let alone us looking for the right man to partner him!

I think there is a recognition from the higher ups that we need to spend on the team, I'm more worried that we will go crazy like Spurs and spend good money on junk . We have to realise that we have a top four squad that is being seriously held back by holes in midfield and at left back . Once we close up those holes and get the tactical and mental side right we could fight for the title again .
We also need to work miracles on Nani and Valencia to salvage the useful players we know they can be . If that were possible then our four/five signings could be -
- two midfielders
- two fullbacks, one a starting leftback and the other a journeyman fullback who can play right and left fullback positions and
- a top class central defender .
Basically four starters that can stabilize the team immediately, instantly diminishing the team's propensity to give away silly goals and add some creativity from deep . We already possess credible creative and goal scoring options in forward areas to mount a title challenge, we just need to be able to use them better .

Im not talking so much about how much we will spend as im sure we will spend quite a bit, though i doubt £200m to be honest.

And i am sure our board and moyes/successor will target top players but thats the problem we always target top players look at last summer, our problem is actually signing them it seems.

We have always had problems attracting top talent to manchester, now with no CL and a poor season behind us can't see that changing.

Which is why im not getting my hopes up for this muppet-tastic summer that many people seems to think we are about to embark on.

So many summer plans, so many targets (as always), just wondering... How many of these will be reality not just another business trip with missing planes in Bermuda triangle with Wooden Ed in it.

so what do we think, is this going to be the most exciting transfer window ever, in terms of players in and out, or is it going to be as frustrating as last year?

I hope for your first possibility, while preparing myself for the second which would follow the pattern of the last few windows.

We'd love to think Moyes comment about top players wanting to play here is true, and not bravado, or agent spiel to get their team a better deal elsewhere!
Can't see why it wouldn't be, we'll pay ridiculous wages, and we're a world famous team, and the biggest club in England.

I don't think champions league football outrides those elements unless there is direct competition from someone paying as high.

Chelsea spent £130 m this season and didn't get a lot it's more about what players we actually buy. I hope we sign Shaw and Barclay long term and three seasoned internationals around the age of 25-28.

Yeah i agree, in that post was probably poorly worded as i clarified a few posts up, i don't care how much we actually spend, i meant more that every summer for as long as i can remember i have been optimistic we would sign really top players, but we for the most part seem to have trouble attracting established players, but your examples would be great barkley especially looks a real talent.

I hope so as well, would be great if we could finally get a bunch of really top players in, but for the first time i can remember im just not too optimistic about a transfer window.

Ill believe the reports that we are going to pay top wages to attract players when i see it, i guess you could say im hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

Lucas hopefully or Blanc.

Press have linked us with Lucas, but Cavani too, I don't think Cavani would be wise considering his sizeable price-tag, great player, but looks like he forgot how to use his legs after his injury, although he will come back from it, don't want to pay so much for a 27 year old striker.

Lucas would be good his pace, I personally like Griezmann because of his technique, although different kinds of players (Lucas is 21, so yes it would be exciting to have his kind of pace but his goal scoring record is poor for a winger).

Woodward was on a plane to Paris. No report whether or not he attended the game. But I mean, why would he? We'd hardly be sending him on a scouting trip. More commercial business, I'm guessing.

Well immediately when someone boards a plane it seems that rumours fly, I remember reading something about Hummels going to Barcelona with some friends once, the next day they were immediate reports of him wanting to play for Barcelona when he just wanted a few days away when there were no fixtures.

No idea why we're being linked with a new striker, we have too many at the moment. I really hope Moyes has realized we're better off keeping Mata in the hole but for some reason I doubt it.

You would hope so yes

Would love the kid Lucas as his pace is scary and immediately teams would drop deeper to combat this and give the likes of Mata space to play in. I can't really see a down side to signing him as he would also compliment AJ on the other side. Shaw Barkley Lucas would be 3 great exciting long term buys and 2 top players in midfield and we are back competing at the top table. Add in Powell & Zaha & we are looking at a young exciting squad.

Lucas is certainly exciting, I just wonder in the current situation if we'll be looking at expensive unfinished articles.

I still wouldn't mind a £10m move for Ravel personally. Top talent. I also think Barkley could be developed into a Vidal kind of 8 too. My first choices in that role would be Gundogan or Kovacic, but obviously Ilkay has injury question marks and I doubt we are interested in Kovacic at all. I saw Tancredi saying yesterday that Sunderland were interested in him!

Don't want Lucas. Never been impressed. Only has pace, nothing much else. If we want a winger who's fast, Pedro would be a better choice.

I would prefer Lucas that kid is going to be a star IMO

He'd be incredibly poor in our system.

He'd be a beast if we intend to keep a 4231 with mata and kagawa behind Rooney. We need someone running in behind so those 2 can create. Plus he's a goalscorer from a wide position. Have you seen his goal scoring stats!

He needs a team that works well as an attacking unit. A proper system of play if you like. Ours is dependant on individual brilliance.

If it's as frustrating as last year then we're a mess.

Anyway, Moyes has insisted all year that this transfer window is when all the business he needs will be done. There can be no excuses if it goes wrong, his job depends on having an excellent window. It one way it seems a bit unfair to place that much pressure on one transfer window but that's the position he's put himself in.
