Precisely. On top of this is he really a player worth £100million? Yeah he has some brilliant games as a midfielder but for that kind of money you need someone who will be the difference maker in 90% of games that he plays in like Messi or Ronaldo in their prime. Pogba is not that guy yet. He might be in a few years but right now he isn't that player.
I highly doubt Mendes is putting pressure for this to go through,he knows he would p1ss Mourinho off by doing so. I know a players word means nothing , see Di Maria. But I truly feel he was being genuine and wants to stay and work with Mourinho, he will eventually go to Madrid IMO, just not this transfer window. Don't be negative about everything dammit!
Then in a few years we would be saying £150m is ridiculous money for a player, why aren't we trying to sign So&So instead? He looks the real deal and is going to be the next Pogba. For what it's worth, I think it shouldn't cost over £80m for Pogba this season.
We have wasted massive money in recent years on average players and worse. I would not draw the line at spending similar sums (total) on a young player who is already bloody brilliant and very very likely to get much better.
Just like if I was any other team (expect Bayern) I wouldn't think twice about breaking the world keeper record for De Gea

I don't think we will get our £38m back but West Ham and their financial bragging would be ripe for Woodys mushroom tip.
Us wasting money on worse players is not the yardstick though. We are probably one of the clubs who find the least value in the transfer market in the last god knows how many years. We are a very, VERY rich club but spending a world record transfer fee on a 23 year old midfielder who whilst looks good, has only done in a very one-sided Serie A seems foolish. We need to strengthen a lot of areas of our squad and I highly doubt we'd be able to spend much more if we spend £80-100million on Pogba.
Regarding David de Gea, he is already the best keeper in the world though. Anyone who says Neuer is better is living in the past.
Pogba is NOT the best midfielder in the world in my opinion. Iniesta, Busquets, Modric are almost certainly ahead of him and then you can question his place amongst players like Rakitic, Kroos, Vidal etc.
