Ref "Told not to expect new faces" article

Do you think thats through choice?, or we have spent our cash (or rather as much as Ed is willing to)

Choice. I think we could easily afford a fair bit more. I still think we'll have a one-out-one-in scenario before the window shuts.

I don't think we have issue with budget (though I don't think we will buy another 40m player). Jose wants a small squad and therefore another will be signed only if we let someone go (not Schweini or Blackett or pereira who were probably not in the squad in the first place)

In summary...

Said Mourinho can sign Fonte without selling as it's a relatively small fee. Mourinho has spoken to his agent (Mendes). Rojo available and may go out on loan. Only in squad at the moment while Shaw is coming back for fitness, but will end up being used if he says beyond the end of the window.

Thinks Blind will stay, but not play too much at centre half going forward.

United interested in Barbosa. Seen as an investment for future. January deal more likely if it happens.

Mourinho giving Rooney a chance to prove himself as didn't want to come in and just bomb him out. Mourinho wary after Casillas situation at Real.

Andreas Pereira doesn't have an attitude problem. van Gaal broke promises to him last season over game time.

Schweinsteiger and Rojo most likely to leave. Thinks there might be one or two more who might ask to go towards the end of the window due to lack of game time/not being first choice. Doesn't think Mata will be one. Mentioned Schneiderlin though.

Listening to Pilib, does he really have the contacts he claims with players and their representatives?

It would seem very doubtful.
Why? Its not to hard to have contacts with players and their representatives. Its whether the information he gets is correct or not.

Great deal by Crystal Palace, if only they knew how to sort the rest of the team out. A front line of Zaha, Benteke, and Towsend could be great for them.

Expensive but not a bad signing that for Palace in my opinion, if they can get a decent supply line to him. They're not short on wingers (Townsend, Zaha, Puncheon) to do so, but not sure how many of those are the type to whip a cross in to the box.

I wonder if they'll follow up that supposed interest in Ashley Young.

Keegan's article is shite. Basically covering all bases with "no more new signings, but things could change if the right player becomes available."

Good signing for Palace really. Theyve needed a goal scorer for ages.

Grossly overpaid, Liverpool wanted shot, so CP could have got a better deal than that. He will do well, but they obviously did not barter well.

You're right. Though I suppose once Palace got that fee for Bolasie, Liverpool could stand firm knowing they'd pay the money.

They also looked pretty toothless on the opening day against West Brom. I reckon that's forced their hand rather than waste any more time.

By January I could see Barboasa as a Memphis replacement.

Hope that's true about Pereira, he should go loan to Middlesbrough.

I was just saying to my Dad earlier that I wouldn't be that surprised if Schneiderlin exited to Everton before the window closes.

Do you think that'd leave us a bit light in central midfield?

Might come down to what the player wants. He could quite easily find himself not in the 18 man squad tomorrow night. With the Europa League, plus our inevitable injuries, he'll get a chance if he bides his time, I'm sure. It'll be up to him to take it.

Given that we are short in numbers in the CF position across all age groups, I can see Barbosa coming in to help rather than replacing Memphis. Zlatan, Rashford and Wilson are the only recognisable forwards in the club.

Schneiderlin still has more to offer IMO. We can't bank on Carrick playing many games and apart from one good game I'm still not sold on Fellaini.

I think if anyone asks to leave because of playing time, it will be someone who is or was an international who knows they need playing time to continue being an international. That might be why Morgan's name cropped up. Jones needs to be playing, Memphis needs to be playing.

If Jose is intent on playing 4-2-3-1 I think he may well consider Pogba, Herrera, Carrick and Fellaini as enough for the 2 spots, as I doubt he'll fear the injury curse the way we do.

You mentioned in the match day thread that the 3 likely to miss out tomorrow would be Memphis, Rojo and Schneiderlin and I think you're right, I'd say he's 5th choice and unlike Rashford, Memphis and TFM I don't know if a few scattered cup games would be enough for him as I'm sure he'll be hoping to get back in the France starting 11.

Fair point. He currently finds himself further down the pecking order than I expected actually when Mourinho took over.

Barbosa hasn't played as a striker for a season or more, he's evolved into a RWF for club and country. If Jose sticks by his usual model it will become 2 for each position and I could see Lingard being Martial's cover/competition with Barbosa providing the same for Micki on the right and Ibra/Rashford as the #9's with Martial also capable of playing there.

I agree it could be risky but he's looked like a deer in the headlights quite often IMO and unfortunately it looks like Jose rates Fellaini..

He was the one everybody had earmarked to thrive under Jose from our under performers, but so far he seems on the fringes and with Pogba about to become a regular it's only getting harder.

Depends, they were desperate for a striker so you could argue they had to pay what we asked if they really wanted him. Good business by Liverpool, in getting the money we paid back (not that it doesn't excuse the purchase in the first place).

Agreed.

Tomorrow could be a huge indictment of van Gaal's summer 2015 recruitment with Depay, Schneiderlin, Darmian and Schweinsteiger potentially all left out of the 18.

Very poor value deal for Palace but that being said without him I think Palace would have been relegation candidates. Still not convinced by them even with Benteke. Bolasie is a big loss, as is Jedinak (and Gayle to a lesser extent who still contributed 7 goals last season). 16-13th most likely.

Not sure how much game time Pereira would get at Middlesbrough, my instincts are telling me not much. If he's going on loan he absolutely needs to be getting first team football. I'd rather he go the Championship if it means more minutes honestly.

Yep, in fact from his whole time here I wouldn't be shocked if Blind and Martial were the only 2 left within the next year as Herrera and Shaw wore the clubs buys.
