Technically; there's very few midfielders better. His passing, vision, first touch are excellent. He's also good at protecting the ball and retaining possession. However, this has just been put to the test in the Italian and French league.

Would be very useful in those games where we found it difficult to break down resilient defences.

It's his mentality and suitability to such a physical high paced league as the PL that concerns me.
French league is very physical and similar in pace to England. I think he's the kind of player that can elevate his game when he gets to the big stage. Imo, he was the best player on the pitch when Roma faced Madrid at the Olympico

Very technical midfielder. One of those CM/ No 10 hybrids. Like Modric in his Spurs days, Iniesta or Thiago Alcantara. Not the strongest player but very good at using his body to shield the ball. Signing him imo indicates Mourinho intends to use a 433 system. He really can't play in any other system. He's not a No 10 in that he doesn't play high up the pitch and he's not CM.
He's not as good as Modric and certainly not Iniesta but i don't think there's much between him and Thiago. He had a very good second half to the season especially when Spaletti took over.
He's more like the player we wanted Herrera to be but he's far more consistent in his passing and delivering his technical qualities.
In regards to the Herrera comparison, yes he would be bought for the same reason in terms of linking defence and attack, however I think that's really where the similarities end.

Pjanic's range of passing is something Herrera has never nor will ever have the ability to achieve. The main advantage that Herrera has over Pjanic is his tenacity in midfield. Personally, I find them very different type of players.

To combat that, he was abysmal in the World Cup - a stage where I expected him to really shine and showcase himself as one of the best midfielders in the world.

To be fair to him, by how much can one shine in a midfield for Bosnia?

Why do they put in 'personally'? Does he usually make suggestions through a 3rd party?
I assume it's more in comparison to United's shortlist of players built up from scouts etc (from Van Gaal's time). Mourinho is saying, "trust me, never mind the details, just get this guy if we can."

Why are you asking ?

I just remember him being on the banned list after constantly giving BS tweets. This was way back before I joined though so I'm not sure if anything changed with him - did he break any big news or something?

Not sure i can live through another summer with that niggling hope that Pogba returns.

All logic should suggest it could never happen, he has no reason at all to move to a team not in the CL as a minimum.......yet i just cant let go of that last shred of hope.

Cheers lads, he sounds promising. I still have faith that Herrera will kick on as well though.

Him, Castles and others are back off the list since they are journos. Tancredi, for better or worse did break the Vidic to Inter and his contributions are generally interesting.

NP, once he signs for City we'll never have to give it a second thought in the future.
Bite!

Have ESPN been ever right? For such a huge outlet I've never seen their sources predict anything noteworthy

They used to be, but even in their own backyard like the NFL they're known to get stuff wrong now. The past few years they've gone from semi-journalism to pure sensationalism/drama.

There seems to be quite a lot of traction with this Pjanic story. Won't unzip until I see Dimarzio or one of his associates report it though, since he is about as ITK as you get regarding Italian stuff.

So far it is probably just a lot of sites recycling the same story, right?

Wasn't there some talk about Chelsea wanting Pjanic last summer when Jose was their manager? Lets hope he is a big fan

Yeah, likewise with Manolas. With Mourinho as our manager it might just be lazy journalism, but since DiMarzio reported our interest in Manolas I think there might be more to it.

Can't wait till we table a £28m joint bid for Pjanic and Manolas that will be refused and called derisory. #daretodavid

Why?
He wasn't good enough for a squad role in Barcelona and they just lost Hummels.
Because they have nothing to lose. The worst that could happen- he flops, even then they can recoup 8million euros. Its a nothing amount in today's market.
And if he succeeds- Barca look like a fool, should they even then sell- can fetch 3-4 times the amount
