Wrt. Willian - if we desperately want a hardworking right midfielder type, Arda Turan might be a good option. He played in the exact same role at Atlético for Simeone:

And, he can switch to the opposite side, and help stretch the field while defending:

Given that Barcelona are looking to sell (reportedly), he might be cheaper and more attainable than Willian. Plus, Turan is tougher than Willian, IMO. Not a very long term option though - more like 3-4 seasons - but he will bring proven European pedigree to the fold (almost 80 Champions/ Europa League games).

Good article on why he's a suitable fit for a Mourinho team:

Hi invictus. I like Arda as well and considering the way barca sell their players I think we can get Arda for cheap but I don't agree with the assessment that he's a good fit for United or Mourinho for a position on the wings.

I put together stats for Arda, Willian, Mane, Maherz and Saul and found that Arda has more in common with Saul than he has with typical wingers. I expected that and that's why used Saul like a control for the analysis because I feel Saul and Koke are used as midfielders that can do the job out wide which is what I think Arda also is, a central player who can be used out wide.

Willian Mane and Mahrez completed more take-ons, created more chances , had more key passes and overall had a much higher attack score than Arda (and Saul) and I think it's precisely because both Saul and Arda are not used as wingers but defensive minded wide midfielders. Even barca used him down the middle and not out wide.

In my opinion that's not what we need on the wings.

(I used stats from Ardas full season with atletico since he played few games last season)

because you disagree with me means I shouldn't be in charge . Lucky for you, you will agree with everything Jose does.

Lol just having a laugh but in all honesty we need an upgrade on Lingard I'd like Mane but Willian would be a massive upgrade but a bit costly

fair play... of course we need to upgrade on lingard who in my opinion should just take Ashley Youngs spot in the squad. I would rather go for mane who is cheaper, younger, faster, higher ceiling and more attainable. Feck Willian

Ok then you have your job back in the transfer commitee lol as I agree

Willain is essentially a glorified version of Ji Sung Park, a player that can play perfectly well in the donkey role, but doesn't offer much attacking wise.

He would be a good signing providing that we get Ibra as main striker, and a No.10 that can give you near 20 goals per season. Otherwise, our attack will suffer if we have only Ibra and Martial to score goals. 3 good goalscorers in the team is a must IMO.

Park was so much better than you make him out to be.

Oh, he was good. Willain is even better. But they are good mostly to provide balance to the team with their hardwork.

I just saw the price for Willain, and that is pretty crazy. For 20-30m it would have been a very good signing, if you can also get someone like Griezmann as second striker to score a lot of goals with Ibra and Martial. Then Willain (or some player of that ink like Park a few years ago) would run 13km or so each game and might leave more freedom to attacking creative players to do their job in attack.

I'm pretty confident if we bid 30 million for Willian we would get him.

Chelsea would probably rip our hand of for that much. Nuts.

Very highly doubt that.

Maybe if we weren't rivals.
No chance, didn't he cost Chelsea around that much?
He cost Chelsea that much. No chance they'd let him go for 30
Yes he did, and of course they won't sell him for 30m, 50m is more likely.

OK, maybe not confident, I just have a feeling that they will. New manager coming in, will probably favour Cuadrado and they have previous with selling their POTY to us when a change of manager takes place.

Also if we do sign him, I would still buy a right winger/forward. We really should be utilising him as the furthest forward central midfielder. He is brilliant at carrying the ball from deep, great passer and crosser and also can go the other way (which is probably one of the reasons he has a reputation for maybe not being good enough because people only think of him as a good defender).

This video shows his class.

Also, he did score 11 goals and get 7 assists in a very poor chelsea side.

And, his average who scored rating is 7.20 in the premier league (better than any Manchester United season except Shaw - and we all know why that is). And for all competitions is 7.36, again, far better than any Manchester United player.

Do not want Willian. He's going to be 28 and won't be cheap. Rather get Mane, if I had a choice between the two.

He's a mourinho no. 10. Never loses the ball, always keeps it moving, passes forward more than back, Creates chances for his team mates ( created more chances and also had more key passes than Mahrez and Mane in the league ), can get past his man ( more successful take ons than Mane), great at set pieces and most of all works hard on defense.

Can't believe how underrated he is on this forum. He's a very tidy player and on current form better than Rooney and Mata. Chelsea won't sell him unless we pay crazy money.

More likely to see the end of Pedro. Willian can play at #10 so front four of:

Costa
Hazard Willian Cuadrado

Might be something Conte will go with.

Willian is bang average for a winger, the only reason people noticed him last season is because he scored 3-4 brilliant free-kicks early on in the season.

Bar that, he has as much creativity as Lingard

Also Di Maria was a hard worker under Mourinho. He showed none of it here.

Mourinho can get most wingers to run up and down for him. Even Hazard was doing it in the 14/15 season.

Had a look at Shedend. Quite a lot of them think £60m is too good to turn down for Willian.

I can't believe anyone would believe those numbers. They must still be giddy from the Luiz to PSG deal.

Edit: I suppose Ramires went to China for silly money too, but still...

Steven Caulker still masquerading as a Premier League centre half, I see.

He's the sort of player that moves from a just-relegated club to a soon-to-be relegated club every summer. Like Nigel Quashie.

One of the brightest central defensive talents in south america has rejected barcelona and he is back on the market. Price is just 3.5 million euros. Barcelona asked him to train in barca b and he said no.
