I think Willian would be a fantastic signing. Fast, creative, works hard and Jose obviously rates him a lot.

Martial - Ibra - Willian
Rooney - Schniderlin - Herrera
Shaw - CB - Smalling - Darmian

I think Willian will be shite. Would love to be proven wrong but would rather stick with Lingard.

Shit summer incoming if that is how we line up in august.

No Willian please! Hope Chelsea refuse to sell.

Are people really complaining about Willian ? Football fans sometimes baffle me.

I don't know why Willian is so cleaving, Golden Blunder created a thread about him and half of the posters thought that he was great and the other half that he was shit. He is obviously very good.

Jose isn't going to sign all these top players that will have us playing Barcelona style skull fecking of opponents in one summer. Maybe we can't get the player we need and Willian is as close as he can get to who he wants and we will analyse the situation again come next summer?
We have to build and if we can get Willian I say why not? He adds balance and a great right foot.

Seriously? It's almost certainly bullshit but whilst overpriced, Willian would be a huge upgrade over Lingard.

I don't really rate Willian that high. I would prefer Hazard over him, even though he has had a poor season. Now there are a couple of reasons for that. In terms of overall quality Hazard is better and is younger. Despite having a poor season, I still think Hazard is one of the best out there.

Willian will be 28 before the start of next season and although still in his prime - for a player who is so reliant on his pace - he's probably got 3 more years of playing at a high standard left. Given that £65m price quotes are circulating with these rumours I'd much rather go for someone younger and just generally better.

What does that mean, 1 more freebie for Leicester? Have they already signed one?

I've always found Willian a great player, I found him very good at Shakthar, I wanted us to sign him badly when he was available as Anzhi and whenever I watched Chelsea, he has always stood out as one of their best players. He is a good winger, quick, adapted to the PL, likes to work under Mourinho and he would bring a fair share of goals and assists that we have been lacking from the right side.

I don't think we could much better than Willian to be honest if we wanted to go for a RW. Yes Mahrez after this season maybay but I think getting Mahrez is more difficult than getting Willian.

I sure like the idea of Willian more than Mané

It's all about perception, I guess. I do rate Willian, but not sure if I'd take him over Sane or Mane. Seems to me that the other 2 offer more unpredictability vs graft that Willian will definitely provide. To me, he's a more cultured Valencia, while the other 2 seem more in the game-changing mold. Willian had a great year but part of that can be attributed to some of his partners being so shit, which made him look great in comparison. In their title winning year, he was a very good complimentary player but not sure if that is what we need, at least at that price.

Wrt. Willian - if we desperately want a hardworking right midfielder type, Arda Turan might be a good option. He played in the exact same role at Atlético for Simeone:

And, he can switch to the opposite side, and help stretch the field while defending:
Given that Barcelona are looking to sell (reportedly), he might be cheaper and more attainable than Willian. Plus, Turan is tougher than Willian, IMO. Not a very long term option though - more like 3-4 seasons - but he will bring proven European pedigree to the fold (almost 80 Champions/ Europa League games).

Good article on why he's a suitable fit for a Mourinho team:

Fixed.

He's reasonably fast and runs a lot. Occasionally flukes free kicks which makes him the best free kick taker in the world apparently.

Mane is twice the player and he probably isn't good enough.

I know this place loves to shit on Lingard but in his first season his numbers stack up very well with Willian's over every season apart from his last, even with Lingard playing in a side that was awful in an attacking sense. Assuming that Lingard does not improve at all as a footballer between now and the end of his career, a slightly unfair assumption, by sheer virtue of playing in a better attacking unit (we could hardly have been worse) I really don't think he'd struggle to contribute what Willian has historically.

Willian would probably give us more aside from goals and assists, but I find 'Well, he's a bit better than Lingard' to be pretty poor justification for spending £70m+ on a player.

Why is this thread turning into post after post about Willian

Because its the only transfer 'news' involving United today.

he would be an upgrade, not a huge upgrade, would take weeks of negotiating and a pretty penny for an ok player. Waste of time and resources, I would rather stick with Lingard.

They wanted rid of Mata, Willian was comfortably their best player last season. I'd rather we didn't go for him
The thing is I've seen people slate Mata saying how he was only the best player in a poor Chelsea side (despite winning FA Cup, CL and EL). Yet Willian has been Chelsea best player in a seasonwhere they've finished 9th (?) and win nothing.

Willian is a decent player, but wouldn't want him, honestly prefer Mata.

Would like us to go for Mahrez but he'll want to stay and play in CL. He's 25 and probably cheaper. I don't really care in the end, it's not my money.

Fluke? He crosses them in low with power and whip. How are they flukes?

Willian is the exact sort of player Mourinho loves, so no surprise there. Have to let him buy the type of player he wants, otherwise it won't work.

It won't happen, though.
Worth noting he was one of the few who still looked like he was playing for the manager towards the end of Mourinho's reign.

Out of curiousity, how many fans would have called Wllian great 3 days ago? We get linked to him a he's the best ever. This place at times! :nervous::wenger::lol::confused:

I would! But being spending £50-60 million on a 28 year old is in my opinion only ok if there is a really special player - and I don't consider Willian to be quite special enough. Nor do I feel he is the kind of player we need the most.

I'd say he's exactly the type we should be looking for and the type Mourinho wants, especially with Martial on the left. My pick would be Mahrez. Not only does he work hard, he would add even more creativity to our front 3. The thought of Martial, Zlatan and Mahrez is mouth-watering.

Willian is 28 years old already, don't want him, only if his price would be less or equal to 35m then we should consider his option!

Rumors of Mammana to Chelsea. Not great sources so won't post tweet.
