Aurelio De Laurentiis confirms #Napoli made a “very big” offer for #Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso.

The Partenopei President gave a lengthy interview to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, and was asked if he had a message for the club’s fans.

“I’m working for you, rest assured we’ll have a great season,” De Laurentiis said.

“Purchases have to be evaluated, verified. We already have a strong team, we have the best attack in Europe so it’s not easy to improve.

“I’m carefully considering every name, every negotiation. The latest offer I made - which was very big, much higher than the newspapers reported - was for Tolisso.

“He has important qualities which could be very useful in the next five years, but if he doesn’t want to come that’s his problem, we can’t hold a gun to anyone’s head.

“If [Lyon President Jean-Michel] Aulas says he’s not for sale, I’m not going to tear my hair out - what can I do about it?”

Do you know any more about this? It sounds as though they're making it as difficult as possible for Koulibaly at the minute.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has wished his defender Kalidou Koulibaly a happy birthday, despite confirming he is to take legal action against the player.

Koulibaly, 25, recently said in an interview with L'Equipe that he is unsettled in Naples and may seek a move away from the club this summer due to disagreements over his salary.

De Laurentiis, however, hit back by saying he would force the Senegal international to run down his contract on the bench and even suggested he could sue the player for damages.

And in a message posted on Napoli's official website on Tuesday, De Laurentiis confirmed that he is still looking into seeking damages.

"Although he didn't abide by his previous contract agreements and our solicitors are now evaluating this, I wish him all the best and I'm waiting for him in Dimaro [preseason training camp]," De Laurentiis said.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss, De Laurentiis also said that he "never had an argument with Koulibaly," but that the player "just breached his contractual obligations and this is something our solicitors are now dealing with."

De Laurentiis added: "He's going to stay with us for a further three years and if he wants to sign for a further two years, then we can sit down and talk about it. We're not a bank, though, and we have a budget to respect."

Since making his remarks last week, Koulibaly, who was a regular for Napoli last season, has been linked with a summer move to Chelsea.

I don't see it as a good move either. It's not much of an improvement and if he stays, more clubs might be interested next summer. If Umtiti and Lacazette leave, I can't see them selling Tolisso.

Just that De Laurentiis is crazy, he doesn't operate in the real world and thinks he can bully players into staying at the club with legal threats, bucky covers more of that below. The last thing I'd want to do if I was a player is sign my career over to him.

The Koulibaly situation should serve as a wake-up call for Tolisso, he has great potential and if he moves he should do so to a club that is ran with common sense, there are several good options in the Bundesliga.

I understand that De Laurentiis is an absolute pleb but the guy is under contract for three more years. If he didn't want to stay at the club for that long he really shouldn't have signed for that length of time. Realistically, a player can only start throwing his weight around when he has 18months/2 years left at most, you can just upstick and move when you feel like it.

Every player that signs at a club signs for 4 years at least, most sign 5 year deals, but most clubs understand where they stand in the football world and act accordingly, making sure to get big fees and having a strong scouting system to continue the process, they don't try to hold players to the contract length when they have a clear chance to move up the football ladder, it sets a tone that they are not the place to go if you are looking for a steady progression with a reasonable understanding that your are aiming for the top.

I'd say Dortmund bucks that trend, but I get your point. I just don't think any player earning that sort of money should ever try to force a move that way. If they have a contract then they should keep their head down and leave it to clubs to agree fees before considering moving. Just a bit of old fashioned loyalty towards the club that gave them their big opportunity in the first place really.

Dortmund have only held one player to the contract to my knowledge and they are a bit different in that they have won the Bundesliga twice in the last 5 years and gotten to the CL final, a club like Napoli has been treading water for decades, if the Milan clubs hadn't collapsed they'd not be in the top 4 mix at all in Serie A IMO. The thing is a footballer's career is short and missing the chance to move to a club like Bayern could destroy a career, so I understand why players loyalties are to their careers first as by 35 most are done at the top level and it's a long life in retirement.

I get your point mate, I just value loyalty over ambition but that's just personal preference. Dortmund tend to keep hold of their players and hold out for maximum value rather than bowing down to player demands, but in Koulibaly's situation the whole suing for damages is ridiculously extreme. De Laurentiis clearly has a few unresolved issues.

Clubs do not show such loyalty when the roles are reversed.

When the player is surplus to requirements,they almost can't wait to get rid.
 
Bellarabi should be a hot commodity, lot to like in that Leverkusen side - they just need an effective striker
