Strikers we could buy?

Far too early to write Schneiderlin off. We need a creative CM and possibly a DM (Unless Fosu-Mensah will be played there) but that is in addition to Schneiderlin.

I'm sure he'll score a lot of goals next season. Like a new signing.

Exactly, not fair to judge a player under LVG.

So you think we shouldn't sign a striker and put Schneiderlin up front? I think Schneiderlin is at his best there. And you are right, it's not fair to judge Schneiderlin with van Gaal playing him out of position in midfield.

Feck of ya backstard  Wrong thread.

We are not selling any stars voluntarily. Management repeats that all the time. We want to build a team around Pogba and Dybala to win the Champions League. We are not going to sell Dybala unless he demands to leave. And Dybala has made it perfectly clear that he wants to stay.
Hasn't the 100 million euros price tag of Pogba been widely reported? A different matter that its such a high price that no one is willing to pay it yet.

That's exactly my point. Dybala should be nowhere near the list of strikers we could buy.

Those are "estimates" by newspapers. Other reports say we have rejected offers of €80m+. We won't sell Pogba or Dybala for any somewhat reasonable amount unless they demand to leave. Of course, you can never rule out a deal completely. Even Messi is for sale if someone offers a billion.

At this point, Madrid, Barca and even Bayern have a small chance to sign him. But I think he will stay at least 2 more years at Juventus, then he will go to Spain.

It seems that Zlatan would be that striker. If we dont sign him, I think a target striker like Cavani/Lukaku are Mourinho's type of player compared with Lacazette/Higuain.

I'm not sure about that he used Higuain a lot at Madrid and Lacazette is in the mould of players like Milito/Benzema players that he liked a lot, Cavani is more a runner than a target and Lukaku isn't Drogba.

I can see Mourinho going for an experienced striker.

If we don't sign Zlatan. Which striker would you like to see?

I think Auba is going Madrid making Benzema an option which I could see us taking.

28 goals and 7 assists isn't to be sniffed at.

Martial - Benzema - Rashford

Or

Martial - Benzema - Mahrez

I think we are on high so badly if we expect Benzema to come here. I know it's Mourinho but if Real is going to get Lewandowski then I can see Benzema picks Bayern and Ancelotti as his new destination and also United is not the only team in PL who needs top class striker. Arsenal also needs one. But Benzema will be a superb signing.
Benzema is a world class striker. It will be stupid if someone is doubting his quality.

Not expecting, but it's how things could pan out. Out of Arsenal, Bayern and Us; we can offer the most in wages and probably in transfer fee. Jose can pitch his French connection 'project' to Benzema and we can hope for the best.

Aubameyang is a definite no I think. Top player, but will be heavily in demand and will go somewhere with CL football. Madrid most likely. Benzema will be up for grabs if this happens, but I think he'd go to Bayern or Arsenal, even Chelsea or Juve over us, as he's never seemed keen on United. Higuain will be in demand also after this season, and Ibra seems to just be using us to get publicity. I think we need to be realistic and not target players we've no hope of signing (thus wasting time like we did last summer). Go for someone like Lukaku and we're more likely to be successful while the likes of PSG and City are chasing the others.

Wasn't there stories Mourinho didn't get on with Benzema at Real? I think it's a non starter, same with Ibrahimovic who is just playing the media.

Higuain or Cavani. But we're getting Zlatan, so this conversation is pretty arbitrary.

I know there's a lot of rumours linking us to Zlatan, but I don't think Mourinho wants him. Yes, he's a target man and he scores goals, but his movement is very often to the ball.

As well as being able to hold up the ball and contest for aerial balls, Mourinho likes his strikers to run in behind and stretch play. Drogba, Benzema, Higuain and Costa was/are all good at both.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Mourinho drop Costa last season because of his lack of running in behind, which resulted in him putting Hazard up top?

I think Mourinho will be targeting other strikers before Ibra.

I'm starting to wonder whether we'll actually sign Zlatan too. I think Aubameyang, Morata, or Higuain will be the targets, with someone like Icardi as a back-up choice.

And rightly so.

I'd be surprised if Lewandowski and Aubameyang are actually on the market this summer.

Higuain seems like a good short term choice atm, he has got plenty of experience at the highest level and he's been scoring loads of goals for a couple of years now in Italy (and despite Madrid selling him his return wasn't terrible for them either).
I have no idea how likely Napoli are to sell him though.

Don't you think though that with Martial or Rashford as a wide forward, having someone with like Ibra is an asset? He could play a more classic centre-forward role; holding up the ball and then laying it off to wide runners, before moving into the box to receive it. I think he'd be great playing alongside others with pace.

Mourinho dumped Costa because every game he was having fights with the opposition team.

I think it all depends on the formation. In a 4231 formation, which is Mourinho's favourite system, and the system I expect him to play, you need a striker to do both, because if he drops he'll be taking up the space of the attacking midfielder.

Not so long ago, Van Persie was moaning because he said people were in his zones. Because he liked to drop so much, the 9 and 10 collided.

In a 433; however, where the striker has no one directly behind him, you can get away with it, as he did for PSG.

Don't think we will get a world class striker without cl. I can only imagine Ibra to join us with Mou in charge. But forget about Aubameyang, Benzema, Müller or Lewandowski please. They won't come to us. Will be another pointless effort.

I think we should really take a look at Benzema
  • He's not playing in the Euros (or the Copa America), so will be on the few forwards around to leave this summer fresh.
  • Real Madrid will presumably be looking to buy the next big thing from the Euros, possibly putting his position in doubt.
  • At best he will be looking to prove a point
  • Potential to be reunited with Mourinho
On the flip side, he might go to Prison... but who knows.

Don't understand why anyone wouldn't want Benzema. Way above our level currently, and would be the first world-class striker we've had since 12/13 RVP.

That said, he won't come here.

I think the fact that he is probably going to be in France on trail next season for blackmailing a team mate and as such unlikley to be available to play for several months whilst still wanting £200k a week in wages (of course with the possibility that the months of trial are followed by significant prison time) make say a £50m bid and £200k a week for 5 years make it a pretty big £100m gamble - great player but a daft time to buy until his legal problems are resolved

Benzema made it clear that he want 's to stay at Real. Why should he join us, what do we have to offer beside from Mou? It's more likely that Lewandowski switches places with Benzema imo. Forget it. Will never happen. Make the Ibra deal fix Mou. When we are back in business we will get those players, till then we are fine with Ibra.

I've been wanting us to look at Higuain for a while, and now I see us being linked with him I'm genuinely excited and optimistic that we could get him. I think he's just what we need at the moment. Much as I have great hope for Rashford he can't be expected to be the main man for the entirety of next season, and I'm quite sure he won't be.

If Zlatan doesn't sign for us... Which available striker would you sign?
