Strikers we could buy?

A year ago people are crying for a cm, and how schneiderlin is the last pieces of the jigsaw

Fast forward a year he's just another deadwood in the squad.

It's the manager, not the players
Agree with this. Schneiderlin was a fan favorite. Also most of the fans where more excited about Memphis than Martial (besides the complaints related to the price). Also I remember Darmian having good games at the start of the season.

I think most of the players would improve under a new manager.

I'm with you that it wouldn't be wise if a number of players were to be sold before a new manager could have had a good look
Obviously the public isn't in the know but I wonder if at least United's board has a clue if they keep LvG next season or replace him. If the latter: Whoever it'll be should have a major say in departures and arrivals and ideally this is what has been happening behind the scenes for some time.

I say we go full galactico mode and get Dybala and Griezmann whatever it costs.

Martial Dybala Griezmann

Sanches Rooney
Schneiderlin

Shaw Blind Smalling Darmian
DDG

I agree, but that particular opinion is for another thread.

I'm not convinced by Batshuayi honestly; his strength is good, but honestly he just looks to me like a poor man's Lukaku.

I think we need a senior forward to drive these young players on, give them someone to look up to. Higuain or Cavani would be great, but either would cost us a fortune. On the fence with Ibra; he's a great personality and someone for the young lads to look up to, plus he's free, but he's also a bit of a cnut, and if he chooses next season to finally lose his edge he may end up being a Rooney-esque deadweight on our squad.

That forward line would be glorious but the midfield is terrible, a water carrier, a has been striker pretending to be a CM and a kid with lots of energy but who needs lots of work to become top drawer.

A year ago, Eden Hazard was one of the best players in europe...

I agree though, Schneiderlin is far more suited to a physical, pressing game

My first choice would be Robert Lewandowski, the guy has exceptional movement and really knows how to find the back of the net. He's also well suited to playing as a lone striker and has good hold up play. Would he join us though, and would Bayern even let him go?

For similar reasons, I also like the look of Vincent Janssen, who incidentally scored again today. He looks strong and decent technically, but strikers from Holland tend to be a bit hit or miss so he would be a risk. Also, starting a season with Rooney, Rashford, Martial and Janssen as striking options seems a little imbalanced, but I guess if you're good enough, you're old enough.

My other preference would be Alvaro Morata. He's a complete, rounded player, and I love his work ethic and physicality. I think he could be a real favourite at the club, although the only concern would be that he isn't all that prolific. He has a one in four record at Juventus, and would certainly need a goal scoring foil in behind. Martial has shown that he can provide goals from the left, but I feel we would need more from the other flank should we sign Morata.

Finally, and most unlikely, I'd go for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He's a real goalscorer and has electric pace, so I think he'd thrive in the Premier League. Whether he'd thrive under Van Gaal though is a different question entirely, and he'd be the most expensive of the four.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The more important signing may come in the form of a right winger/second forward.

We should be making Antoine Griezmann our primary target, he oozes class, pace and technical ability, and he's a goalscoring winger. He'd give us the best balance with Martial on the opposite flank, and I'd seriously break the bank for him. I feel that there will be many other clubs doing the same though, and I don't see him in any rush to move to a club without Champions League football.

Neymar Jr would be the other big name option that we seem to be regularly linked with, and I'd certainly not be adverse to signing him. He's got star quality, creativity and an eye for goal, and we could use him on the right or in the centre. Rather unrealistic and ridiculously expensive though.

Sadio Mane is the more realistic option for the right, and is a player that I like. He has pace and Premier League experience, although can be a little inconsistent. There are some question marks over his temperament, but he's a good age and I feel he could flourish at United.

For christ sake, Gonzalo Higuain.. Pay that 60m.€ what Napoli wants. Easily the best possible choice.

What if I told you a striker with 17 goals and 8 assists in La Liga, age 27 in his prime, who has a play style similar to Alexis Sanchez was available?

Would you take him?

Well, Lucas Perez who plays for Deportivo is your man.

He is left footed, 5'10", Spanish, can play RW or CAM, scores all sorts of goals and deserves to be at a top club.

Not many vids on him but this is the best one I found which isn't that great, missing some fantastic goals:

For what it's worth, the Guardian just published a story linking us to Morata.

Real Madrid have decided to activate their £23.6m buy-back option on Álvaro Morata, but will then sell him on to the highest bidder with Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain all interested in the forward.

The player, who has been with Juventus for the past two seasons, would favour a move to Manchester United, especially if José Mourinho takes over at Old Trafford in the summer, and would prefer a move to the Premier League rather than Ligue 1. However, the decision may be taken out of his hands if PSG outbid the three English clubs.

There have been reports that Leicester City, Napoli, who have approached the player, Inter and Milan are also interested but the player’s representatives have ruled those options out for the time being. The new Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, would like to sign the striker, having brought him to Juventus in 2014 only to quit the club a few weeks later, but any move from Chelsea will depend on whether Diego Costa remains at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho worked with Morata at Real Madrid for three seasons, with the Portuguese giving the player his first-team debut against Real Zaragoza in 2010. Morata said later: “Mourinho could have chosen some other player, but he chose me and I’ll be grateful to him for the rest of my life.”

Manchester United will make a decision on Louis van Gaal’s position after the season with the team still having a chance to finish fourth in the Premier League with one game remaining before facing Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final a week on Saturday.

Morata started out at Atlético Madrid before spending a season at Getafe in 2007-08. He then joined Real Madrid, where he scored 10 goals in 37 league games in two seasons, before moving to Juventus in 2014, where he won two league titles and reached the 2014-15 Champions League final.

Real Madrid were always leaning towards activating the buy-out clause and have now made a final decision on that. Where he plays next season, however, is far from certain.

Icardi would be huge drama with his annoying wife and her 3 kids from that other footballer from what I have heard.
No idea how much this drama exists on a daily basis though and if yes then if Icardi is good enough to be worth that trouble.

Higuain has to top our list this summer. Great striker.

I'd be pleased if we could get him as well as a real goal scoring right winger, but the £40m being suggested seems a bit steep to me. That said, I don't think there are many strikers available of his quality at the minute, and it's not my money after all.

He leads the line well, works hard off the ball and will create space for other players. He's strong, decent in the air and technically proficient. I think he'd be really useful against stubborn defences that sit deep and are difficult to break down. I'm a little surprised that Real Madrid wouldn't keep him as an alternative to Benzema though.

I like the age bracket that Higuain and Lacazette are in. Slightly older and in their prime. If we keep signing youngsters besides the obvious problems you associate with younger players, it is also a bad idea to have too many players in the same age range.

Higuain is 28 and Lacazette is only 24. I don't think he is necessarily in his prime at all yet.

Griezmann - Feasible and the signing everyone wants. Won't happen because United.
Aubameyang - Impossible but would be great.
Kane - Impossible but would be great.
Morata - Feasible but probably very expensive. Is he world class?
Lukaku - Feasible but end of the season has raised doubts. Flaky.

A lot here (myself included) had been saying that Griezmann is the one to go for.
I guess this Train has left the Station. The guy who destroyed Barca and Bayern in this year´s CL will be impossible to get for us in our current Situation.oth
The same can be said about Kane. I expect both to Play a decent Euro as well so both will only be available for crazy amounts this summer.

Most other names mentioned here are either a gamble, too old or not better than Rashford and Rooney.
So as I am not the biggest fan of Rooney playing in midfield I would rotate those 2 and hope for Rashford to confirm his potential.

Bigger Needs would be a RW and maybe a 10/ a creative midfielder.
I see what you mean. Going the Arsenal route aye? Quality support players e.g. Sanchez and Ozil and then a decent forward in Giroud. Problem is at best with this route, you will maybe scrape 4th or miss out. Depends on your standards really. It is of no surprise that City, Chelsea, Leicester and Spurs all came 1st or challenged when they had one of the leading scorers in the division. Not happening with Rooney/Rashford and 3 shots on goal per game

Isn't he going to Leicester

Break the effing bank on Greizmann. One player really can make a massive difference -- if he's the right player. Greizmann is the right player.

IMO Griezmann should be Rooney's replacement. However, I can't see that happen this season.

If we sign Zlatan, he would be here for a year or even two... Which striker would you sign after Ibra (in case we sign him)?

Depends on many variables;

How far has Rashford developed? (or any other promising youth players, who would have expected Rashford's emergence)

Where are we as a team - Champions League? Who is our manager? etc.

Impossible to say without seeing what happens.

If Rashford isn't good enough by that time, then I would go after Dybala and/or Kane.

I think we should rule Dybala out, given that he says he dreams of playing for Barca.

Harry Kane. I think Spurs will be back to being out the top 4 next season and I don't think he's going to want to stay there when he can leave and get £200k wages somewhere else

It's a great wish but I can't see Kane thinking for a moment of leaving a CL club to a club that's not in the CL. I have no idea what Spurs pay him right now but if it's a pauper's wage and that's not fixed quickly, sure, I can see 200k/week turning his head.

Yea he has said that but Barca's attack is already set for the next 3 years at least, I don't see room in there for Dybala until one of Suarez and Messi move on. And Messi is likely to retire at Barca.

What about Slimani? He's been heavily linked with Tottenham recently, bagged 29 goals this season for Sporting and has a £23 million release clause.

Plus it might help us buy Mahrez

Edit: Obligatory video

Is the consensus that juve will sell dybala if the right offer comes in?

I can't imagine he'd want to leave of they would cash in after the year he's had.

Don't want to jump the gun on the back of one performance, but Grameiro looked very decent today. Maybe there's a younger version around of the same/similar quality, until a genuinely top level talent becomes available.

We are not selling any stars voluntarily. Management repeats that all the time. We want to build a team around Pogba and Dybala to win the Champions League. We are not going to sell Dybala unless he demands to leave. And Dybala has made it perfectly clear that he wants to stay.
