Straylan and Kiwi politics

@Hitsu from the newbie forum has asked me to post these links showing the irony of the government claiming that Labour are the ones in China's pocket.

Insiders was a train wreck this morning. James Campbell whinging that political donation disclosure "will hurt the liberals" and it's not fair, going as far as to claim we don't have to know about the people/groups that donate. He also claimed Patterson was making "very persuasive arguments" that Albo was soft on China....when Patterson could not articulate even one point properly. Speers actually did a good job making Patterson look quite stupid.
But overall a really bad episode that essentially spent 99% of the show trying to discuss "if the liberal claims against labor have a basis". You know it's a bad episode when Speers and Savva are making the best points on the show.

When did the conservative faction in Aussie politics begin to be known as the ‘Liberals?’

In some fashion, since it's inception. They use "liberal" in the laissez-faire economic sense. The "Liberals" came from "classical liberal" free trade party which was a response to the growth of the labor party and movement.

Straight up conservative bullshit.

we should also note from this clip that Campbell states that disclosure of secret money would only hurt the Liberals, not because rules changes would ban donors to the LNP. However simply as a matter of disclosure, the Australian people would find out WHO the liberal donors are, and that would mean the liberals would be more hesitant to take the money.

Unabashed liberal propaganda being spouted on the flagship political show by a so-called journalist. I hope Speers sees just how bad this episode was.

Wettest start to a year in Sydney on record with 872mm of rain so far. It is almost as if the climate is changing with all the floods and fires.

#scottyfrommarketing trying to visit the flood affected areas (late as usual) without being filmed with the general public to avoid the disaster that was him getting abused at the end of the bushfires.

He seems in a death spiral BUT you fear there are enough entrenched right wing voters that this lurch from disaster to disaster might not be enough to get rid of him.

Well ahead in the 2 party preferred vote (after preferences are distributed) but when undecided are included the margin is still less than the number of undecideds.

#scottyfrommarketing is surely into an election winner with this logo. Women have been fleeing the coalition in drives and I'm sure this should turn the tide.

And no it isn't a joke or satire.

Victorian Liberal MP says social housing in richer areas is a bad idea as the kids from that housing wouldn't be able to mix with other kids due to not being able to afford the latest iPhone (to paraphrase a bit, but less than you would think).

I get the distinct picture of their children being driven to school in a Porsche Cayenne and being told how lucky they are that they don't go to public school.

For sure. I've had time interact with this type a great deal in Sydney and they are the textbook embodiment of white, middle class entitlement. A former treasurer, when commenting on the fact that it takes over a decade to save a home deposit (and more as prices keep rising) said it was young people's own fault it took so long as they spent too much on coffee and avocado on toast for breakfast.

The Murdoch press and the like have started the "Albo is a nice bloke but ....." narrative that they are obviously going to try to rely on until the election.

On the other hand we have his own Senators none too happy with him after being pushed so far down the ticket that they won't get reelected to give a place to #scottyfrommarletings's mate.

Looks like the wet weather is to continue. Please make it stop. We have had close to 1.5 meters of rain this year already. That is way more than the average for a whole year which is about 1.1m (about the same as Manchester). I'd guess we have had only a handful of totally dry days so far.

Places like Lismore in northern NSW are going under for the second time this month with flood levels 12 meters above normal levels.

And they just found the body of the missing woman.

back to back "once in xxxx year floods" lets see how these areas vote on a few months

would not surprise me in the least. The idea that liberals/ScoMo would turn to the unabashed racism of the riots to try and overturn a humiliating loss just seems to be standard for someone like him.
