Stones vs David Luiz

I feel by the time Stones concludes his career there won't be much debate to be had over who was the better player.
Very difficult to predict these things. 5 years back you would sworn that Kompany would end up more successful than JT. Look at how he has ended tits up.

Plus young english players with loads of potential/hype regularly fail to make it.

I'd take Luiz and I don't think that Stones will definitely become a better player. Luiz has amazing physique blended with ball-playing skills - on paper he looks like a perfect defender, just like Ramos, but they don't have a slightest idea about tactics and defensive positioning (well, I'm exaggerating a bit, but still).

Stones doesn't have his athleticism, although his reading of the game is probably better.

Guess people are forgetting that Stones struggled at times to get into that Everton side last season who were utterly shit defensively. He's had a good start to life at City but hasn't been tested at all yet and they haven't played quality opposition.

Stones has it all to prove, he's coming off a very bad season though the media seem to want to whitewash it. Just saw Niall Quinn call him the signing of the summer.

Luiz by a mile. Both are very prone to brain farts but Luiz is very good at getting forward and has shown a higher ceiling defensively when in form. Big personality too, so he'd be easier to get behind as a fan.

This is the footballing equivalent of choosing which STD you'd rather have

What's the point of the thread, Luiz is more experienced and so should be ahead of Stones.

If you ask me what's the better signing (which makes more sense given they've both moved this summer) then it's Stones easily.

Stones is a decent centre back, but Luiz is a star defender for one of the top national teams in the world and was for a club that's easily better than every team in the PL (atleast until this summer).

Come on you really believe that? Brazil are in shambles.

Anyone who says Stones clearly doesn't understand football.

Luiz is more talented and better all around player.

Stones has plenty of talent himself, but has a long long way to go.

As of now has to be luiz. Anyone that says Stones is better than luiz right now is either considering his potential or underrating luiz

Stones. He makes a lot of poor decisions but he is fundamentally a good young player. At Chelsea Luiz was laughably bad at defending, and he has been relaxing in France for the past few years. Ill be surprised if he has learned much there. Theres not much use in having a defender who can't defend, no matter how good he might look on the ball.

Stones is better.

Luiz is a donkey. The EPL loves to polish a turd but you simply can't with this charlatan. 7-1 and Suarez in Paris brutally exposed him. If he didn't have that hairdo he'd be rated a lot less highly.

Disappointing thread. I thought the question would be 'who's a worse defender/a biggest clown'.

To be fair, as much as I love to laugh at 7-1 and mock fontaine, Stones didn't even manage to get into a side that lost to Iceland. With all respect towards Iceland, I don't know if it's not as embarrassing as getting beaten by, after all, very good German side.

Mind you that if I'm to be up against fontaine again, I'll claim the exact opposite.

1st choice for clubs like Chelsea and PSG and for Brazil. I know he's a bit mental at times, but he's not rubbish and certainly a much better player currently than Stones.

Stones because he might get it together and be good and Luiz has had so many horror shows, often when it really matters, that I doubt he'll change now.

But I think, with a brain transplant, Luiz would be better. He has all the attributes, he's just a lunatic.

Can't really compare, can you? Stones has been around for two years, whereas Luiz is very experienced.

Luiz is much better at the moment. He can really be a clown at times but he's not as bad a defender as people here are making him out to be.
