Steven Defour

Surprising but you've seen more Belgium players staying put than attempting to head off into a bigger league. Think they've seen too many talented players tossed to the side to risk it.

maybe 20 years ago signing a new contract meant something, but today it can just be a way of upping the transfer fee.

and implement certain clauses that benefit the player if certain clubs become interested in the players the services.

Ah I thought it was common knowledge: Defour is a long-term target for Manchester United (Spartak Moscow will pounce if that falls through), while Witsel is probably joining Milan. Both are 'in process', and given the professional nature all these clubs usually work, we won't hear anything concrete until the t's are crossed and i's dotted.

hi Eurosport, you mentioned something earlier about Standard being set to lose Defour & Witsel? What teams are they linked to?

Obvioulsy the PL snubbed him instead of him snubbing the Pl. If a club here wanted him he would have been bought. Doubt he will ever be close to world class now with the rate of his development

Why, he's developing fine and there's a lot of money in eastern Europe footall now. I can see in the next 5 years a return to the levels of old for some of the teams.

Would've really liked him here. I somehow doubt he'd ever have picked CSKA over us so I guess he just wasn't wanted.

all those posts lost, but yeah looks like he's gonna be at Sporting.

Glad he's gone there to be honest, we'll keep tabs on him, with our scouting presence in Portugal.

He is a quality, energetic player who will suit the speed of the premier league well. Good passing skills and excellent technical ability. I feel we should definitely keep an eye om him.

Today Belgian media reports that the deal between Standard and FC Porto regarding Steven Defour is finalised. On monday Standard will have a press conference so it is expected they will announce the transfer during that press conference.

How much did they pay for Moutinho again? Insane they got both of them combined for less than 20m euros.

How do Portuguese clubs pay so little for obviously talented players? Promise 50% sell on clauses?

Not good enough for us. We should really be looking at Steven Defive or Steven Desix. Both are clearly better.

Fergie frustrates the feck out of me sometimes  why not take a gamble at that price?

Maybe because he's shit!!!

Jeezz some people he signed for Porto not a top league top four side!!

70% of us on here haven't even watched him, your probably one of them.

Loads of players sign for Portuguese clubs for small fees and move on for big bucks a few years later. Our very own Anderson, David Luiz, Angel Di Maria, Ramires and loads more. Juan Iturbe will probably be the next 20-30m signing from Portugal who cost a fraction of that for Porto to sign.
